With regards to the OP, these mechs will be nice to have in the bay when the meta shifts again. It's how they get folks to buy stuff.

To OP, most of the AC builds I see are in fact not very heat efficient. The energy builds I use are more energy efficient than a lot of mechs I see stuffed to the gills with AC's. People seem to forget out heavy AC's are, how many slots they take, how much ammo weighs, and how many slots ammo takes up. These all leads to a situation were you have no room or weight for heatsinks and puts you on par or below a well thought out energy build as far as heat. This is made even worse when people have to use endo and ferro to get the AC loadouts they want. They might not have the same DPS but, I don't see them having more heat all the time. Also even with less dps my lasers are always dealing some damage, that can't be said for someone that misses an AC/20 shot.

I like to play energy and some srms, so I'm not really concerned with Meta. I'm more concerned with smooth good gameplay mechanics and new modes.

My main issue with the Griffin is that I really wanted that GRF-2N. As it is pure luxury, as well as an actual variant.

I fully intend to run my Griffin-1N stock - LRM10 and PPC. Stick it up your bum, meta!

I'll still upgrade the engine, add ES, AMS, DHS, probably Artemis and BAP, and maybe upgrade the PPC to an ERPPC, but I'm going to keep the same basic weapons layout. I figure I have to do something to keep the Griffin-1N somehow different from my other mediums, and leaving it stock actually does that.

I must say that all this conversation highlights the problems of meta, but Griffin seems to work fine around lasers and missiles. The hint is - it's not meant to be a sustained-damage-dish-out platfrom, and oh to be fair only 10's and 20's and may be UAC5 make sense on something that cannot tank. AC2 are devastating when you can actually concentrate in damage delivery, but when you have to run around a lot it doesn't seem to be very effective.
That said I quite like ml-ppc/ssmr builds on my griffins, and don't think of ballistic wolverine as a best among the 6.

P.S. LMR based griffins are also fun.

Been running an LRM Griffon 1N (the phoenix one) as an upgrade to a classic Trebuchet loadout. it works pretty damn well, once its speed tweaked i'll go 90 with 2x ARLM-15. been doing 400 damage and getting a kill or two without much trouble, and if stuff gets bad i can out run most heavy and assault mechs.

Yes, not meta. but that does not make it "bad"

I've taken a liking to the saber mechs now that I've had time to just sit back and play with them after work. Yea they aren't your autocannon meta mechs but they are still fun and effective if played right.

Note: I'm not a good player nor do i follow the meta I just make mech builds I feel are effective and fun. Right now even with srm hit detection being buggy it's fun running up to someone with quad srm6 and those two medium lasers and punching them straight in the balls for some massive burst dmg and JJing over a hill and away lol.

I've concluded that "meta" is a term coined to mean anything within a given context, like "widget". Now if I can only figure out the contexts...

Griffin cares not about the Meta, it is a solid performer and makes all medium mechs proud!

No regrets with the Saber Pack, truly a pair of great mediums! :P

Any build with 2 PPCs is good with the Griffin I find. Especially for right handed corner peek-firing. With a XL 300 you can pop in and out from corners faster than you can jump-jetting.

Welcome to Mech Warrior Online. We have lots of mechs to choose from but only 4 of them are the right choice and only 2 or 3 load outs per said mechs. No cheese no galaxy.

I'm finding both the Griffin and Wolverine to be pretty solid, meta be dipped.

Remember, there's 2 aspects of the meta.

1) What is currently working well.
2) The next thing that works well.

Without changes to 1, #2 means new stuff may change the Meta in some way.

That said, the Meta encompasses several successful mechs, but it's not a law that you need to follow it.
