I figured I will post this here first since you guys are probably the most open to such an idea.

MWO is a great game but the lack of community interaction has made it a much less profound experience than its predecessors. I've fought thousands of pilots and I will fight thousands more but they might as well not have usernames at this point because once the match ends, it's onto the next group of faceless pilots.

About half way through December I decided to attempt to correct this problem by recreating the zone system using highly scalable software. It started out as a joke to see if I could pull it off but suddenly the wheels started turning and things fell into place much easier and quicker than I anticipated. I have now come to a point where the lobby is ready for heavy testing and use.

It has all the features you would expect from the old zone software with one exception - game drops. That's a big exception and for that reason it will be hard to recreate the atmosphere of the older Mech games. Convincing the newer generation to participate in an old style lobby that's not directly built into the game will be a stretch but I believe it is a worthy effort.

Currently the lobby is roughly equivalent to the zone in terms of features but I will not stop here if people decide to use it. I want to integreate a league, orginzational tools for merc corps, and stat tracking into the lobby. Ultimately, my hope is that one day the lobby will allow you to drop into a game just like the old days but it will take an act of PGI to make that happen.

I do not have to convince you guys though, you know what I am talking about. If you are interested in making this lobby successful spread the word, tell your friends, corp mates, and random people in game. Once there is a regular following the lobby will perpetuate itself. The hard part is getting it off the ground.

This is not half assed software, I poured my love for Mechwarrior and the Zone into it and I think it will show. If you are interested in making this happen the website is:

Figured I would bump this again with an update.

I'm now going as ChrisOrange instead of ClouD. When we started FFK in the Mech3 days...we all chose final fantasy related names and now that FFK is done there's no reason for me to keep that name. It took a long time for me to decide but I think it's time. Not only is the name incredibly generic but I was also 16 or 17 years old when I picked it...so I've kind of moved on from that.

This thread takes me back...I loved the MSN Gaming Zone i used to play Mechwarrior (Think it was MW3?!?) and AOE there all the time with my crappy internet (I think i still had 56k modem or isdn at that time) must have been '99 or 2000 but i can't really remember

most of the fun in thoose days was the chat room trolling bsing and the most of all the pure smack talk that you get untill the banned hammer came down fromt he zone mods lol then you login in and change to a new name lol.start all over again
think to see how far you get before the hammer came down was the best part of it

How's this going, btw? Also...it was easier to build community in MW3 since a lot of us were dumbass teenagers or in our 20s. Being dumbass late 20s and 30s folk now makes it tougher.

@Gauss Had to go to the military for a few weeks and kinda lost interest when I came back. The matchmaking system really blows - and sadly its still not improved. But I like the direction the game's going.
