I have recently started calculating Elo scores for teams based on results in competitions. Currently, I am tracking results from Last Mech Standing, Marik Civil War, and Run Hot or Die. The results were tracked starting with the most recent seasons for each of these leagues. It was too difficult to go back and include old matches, also, much has changed since then (e.g. teams, players, addition of 12v12). Only leagues that have a 'best of' type of series, will be included.

The standings will still change heavily based on results, as many teams only have a few matches thus far. Also, not all teams have had a similar level of competition, thus it will take some time to even the playing field. My plan is to provide updated standings either weekly or every other week.

**The minimum games has changed to 3.**

Looks interesting, but I'm not sure how exactly you're tracking 'Elo' scores. Can you explain further?

Edit: I just noticed you are a member of Steel Jaguar... who just happen to be leading the rankings. LOL, what are the odds?

It would be good if you explained how you came up with the rating numbers. I presume it's based on more than win/loss otherwise it'd be a simpler number?

One day, with tournaments, community warfare, rankings, all integrated into the game, MWO could be awesome.

Wins were taken for the 3 main leagues with "best out of" type matches. Proxis League is based on single drops a lot of the time. This ranking started from the most recent seasons (Season 2) in these 3 leagues. Its a good way to keep track of who the top teams are at the moment. I'm sure there are good teams not on the list that either don't compete or have disbanded which is unfortunate, but like the old saying goes "what have you done for me lately?

I have to agree, sounds like a great team ranking system from YOUR point of view. I don't agree personally.

I would point out that Proxis is additionally problematic, as its rules try to encourage a more role-play based (organic) type of match, where tonnage asymmetries and the use of "cheap" mechs are potentially encouraged.

Even if it were a best-of format, it would still be impossible to calculate an Elo score (as Elo assumes an equal footing).

However, for people who are wondering how this is calculated, GFGI - Elo developed his methods ca. 60-70 years ago.

@ Magician,

What is the K-factor in your calculation? 30?

I don't use Proxis because even though its now best of 3, teams will come at it with vastly different tonnages. Proxis players might want to develop their own rating system.

Careful with that statement. Steel Jaguar Gaming is known for its very competitive skills since closed beta and are the founders of the Run Hot or Die League, which is considered by most (and i daresay all) high tier mwo units as the premier tournament.

Most consider them the best MWO unit right now (myself included, even though we, the Swords of Kentares, rank pretty high already) because of their attitude towards competitive games, their discipline inside games and their dedication to practice.

Tread lightly friend, for you might not like your encounters with them in 12 vs 12 :D (they're great guys though!)

Yeah you can hear the curses on TS when we drop 12v12 against Steel Jaguars. Damn good competitive players! <o

Well, I'll be shooting at them, and they'll be shooting at me.

Even though all of us are great guys, I doubt we'll do any less shooting as a result of a light-hearted comment in the MWO Forums.

Everyone has their own opinions on who is a quality unit and where they may or may not rank. However, when its all said and done, its just an opinion. This ranking is merely compiled of the data at hand. So if a team is active and plays. They will be included in that data. Teams that choose not to compete will not be included in these rankings.

Is it the "be all, end all" of rankings? Not in the least. However, its the only thing we have to date. If someone has a better way to rate teams based on real data and real competitive play (not random 12v12). Please post your ideas or rankings. I'm sure the teams would like to see another perspective.

Appreciate the effort into recording the stats for this.

Would just point out that as the EU and NA teams really don't meet each other would it not be better to also have two separate lists as well as the combined one?

Also Inner Sphere Wars is a place that a lot of EU teams play in and has weight limits for matches, for EU results that would be a good one to include.

I do know my suggestions just mean extra work for you though ;)

so why is this a problem? It is still a tournament. Teams are winning and loosing there. Isn't it your main criteria?

Teams in proxis have differing goals. Pirates for example would prefer to get a few kills on expensive mechs than win battles. Clans would also want to go for kills even when a cap win is possible because they are rated on kills. Compare that to mercs who want to win at all costs.

In addition tonnage is rarely the same as you can bring what you want mostly.
