From probably the only guy that plays MWO over 4G.
Nope, there's at least two of us! I play over a Verizon 4G install with a 10GB limit, so this is nice to know. Now I'll know to tether to my phone for this download, which we've managed to keep our unlimited data package on.
For those who are curious, my ping is usually 70-80, and never higher than 85.

It's like going for a swim and complaining about having to hold your breath periodically.

I stated - accurately - that the need for this big patch was created by lots of new content. I didn't say or imply the new content was being delivered in this patch.
Would you prefer they deconsolidate the content at the same time they add new content? That would be a recipe for even bigger bugs than we'll probably already face due to the change of data architecture alone. It's better that they do the two separately.
If you're looking for opportunities to complain about lack of content, you don't need to misinterpret my posts to create them.
Dude,
I'm not complaining, I'm saying, flat out, you were wrong. "when a big patch is created by lots of new content." There is not a lot of new content, period. You are wrong to imply or state there is lots of new content. Say what you meant to say and/or correct it, but what you said originally was wrong as stated. Sorry if the sarcasm offended you.
Now I agree with your OPINION that a big patch is welcomed when it is created by lots of new content. But you have implied this patch is such, and that is wrong.

You misinterpreted my post. I know there is not lots of new content coming this patch. I didn't say - or intend to imply - that there was lots of new content coming this patch. All I was saying - or at least, trying to say - is that the big patch is being created to allow for lots of new content coming in future. Sorry if this was not clear.

Technically, that's not what is happening.
They are doing this for 1 simple reason... trying not to hit on limitations.
However, it serves many other things, like people having to need to redownload Objects.pak every single time it gets corrupted. It consumes more bandwidth needlessly (not that it should be a problem, but it helps both sides indirectly), so changing it is a good thing™.

The limitations that would occur when they add new content in future patches, which would have taken them above the 2GB file size limitation..

More or less. I do think the comment earlier made against him was correct as he was unclear about it in the first place.
Otherwise, I'm just happy it's being done, due to how Object.pak gets corrupted at some insane rate.

I can hear it now:
"PGI is so desperate for log-ins they're giving away free premium time, begging people to come back! Yet another symptom of how utterly bankrupt the game is... The beginning of the end... the downward spiral..." Followed of course by a six-page post describing how ghost-heat, CBill nerf, 3pv, and whatever else they don't like about the game has caused it to fail. How they saw it coming. How everyone who said "don't let the door hit you in the *** on the way out!" should feel real stupid right about now. On and on, etc. etc.
Or they could just say "thanks," and log-in this weekend like everyone else.
Thanks, PGI, For both the considerate free premium time and your communication with the community.

1 day of free pemium time.
improvements to pak files of some kind
1.3 GB download to restructure that is causing some minor QQ amongst the bandwidth limited.

It's just something I want. If you live in a developing country, or somewhere God and profit ranks higher than service, where they still haven't figured out how to give you unlimited bandwidth, I suggest you start hating on your providers and politicians rather than game companies which base their strategies on delivering content through the Internet.
This misses the entire point I was making. BTW have you ever heard the saying about what happens when you assume? It explains why the first three letters match your attitude.

To clarify: to those players who accepted Russ' non-apology and continued to play the game, have a free day of premium time.
To clarify: Evidently there are those that apparently did not accept Russ's words still out on these forums looking for stuff to complain about

You nailed it Tycho.
PGI thanks for the heads up. Thanks for the hard work. The game has a ways to go yet but this is a step in the right direction both in terms of the file system and player communication.
