The biggest issue with the Awesome now is energy vs ballistic balance, the Awesome has no ballistic hardpoints, which puts it at a huge disadvantage in the current metagame. Also SRMs are in a really bad place, which again, is not good for the Awesome.

We can hope. PGI's current production model of releasing new mechs that are slight variations of existing mechs is completely dumb and unsustainable in the long-run. They need to do way more to differentiate each mech. Every mech needs a unique skill tree IMO.

I expect PGI will come around and do this in.... 2015.

I would like to see individual skill trees for mechs, but leave weapons efficiencies/cooling efficiencies out at least until omni mechs make it to the scene so you can stylize them toward a certain weapons playstyle while still allowing meaningful choices.
Awesome mech is probably going to need some fundamental redesign in the visual model to be entirely realistic. It needs the man boobs to be moved inwards and upwards to provide a more compact CT, slim up the profile from the side slightly so the arms can actually be used to block. Right now, it is simply the worst of 'wide' and 'long' torsos (think atlas from the front and catapult from the side).

Er, no. Whenever i drive an awesome i'm happy if i take damage to the head, since that means my CT took less.
Looking at the hitboxes in the mechlab (click around on the mech model to see where location is) and in the testing grounds the changes have done very little.
Short of a total redesign and new model, the only thing i can see to make it more survivable is to give it centurion like arm hitboxes from the side, and use the shouler guards as arm hitboxes from the fron and rear, shrinking the CT and STs accordingly.

I guess you've never heard of this mech called "Stalker"
I really fear how broken this game will be once the Stalker's crotch is changed to apply dmg to legs. After that there's simply no way of coring it - unless they fix the CT hit box by at least doubling its size.

Killed by a leaping Jenner. Brawled in a Battlemaster's face and won. Started fighting a Jager, but during both fights the Jenner wouldn't get off of me. Pretty Baby can't fight lights well.
Also of note: Reallocated armor to be much more front-bound. 12 rear, max possible toward front akin to my Victor rigs. Helped for fighting against the battlemaster. But with all the stripped armor, meh. 88 front CT, 56 STs. Doesn't help enough.

It's better than it was.
First game out of the gate I got down to 44% health with the left side completely sheered off, but I survived the match, even taking more hits scattered about. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have lived with the old hitboxes.
More testing is needed, and - let's face it - we all die a lot to center torso kills and nothing will make the Awesome better than the Stalker than vast changes to the game. But, at least it's better than it was, IMHO.
