So I was fairly surprised when I saw that a Hero Assault mech cost $40. For reference, I rarely spend $30 on a full game. I say this without vitriol, that price tag dissuaded me from buying a mech with real money. I cannot comprehend people who own multiple hero mechs.
So, I ask this out of curiosity; why is any single mech worth spending $40 for? Am I missing another, less expensive, way of acquiring MC? Help me understand this. I'm perfectly willing to only spend MC on paint, mech bays, and premium time; but before I do I'd like to understand why Hero Mechs are priced so high.
The answer is simple — the greed.

The whole F2P is a failure. Let's be honest, if you like a game, you should spend some money on it and for trying things out there are demo versions. F2P is just an attempt to find a model, that gives higher revenues through sneaky business models and people hate it, because they don't know what they are getting for the money and it's way too much money in the first place (and some games are even pay-to-win).

you cant compare the scalability of softwar against hardware items.
micro transaction works in software and ensures that whill $$$ rolls in then they keep support on for the product.

Its not.
People who do, usually have jobs and can afford to pay these crazy prices, like myself.
In the end its only pixels without any promises. And PGI dont owe us sh't, they can take that favorite 40$ mech of yours and turn it into scrap and you cant do nothing, remember that when you are paying.

Assault - Boar's head / dragon slayer / pretty baby
Heavy - Fang / Flame / Jester / Muromets
Medium - Wang
Light - TDK
I buy them - because I can..
Look at it this way... I use a usd80 laptop bag for work... My wife uses a usd2000 handbag (this is "low end" in handbag terms)..
Either buy what you like or don't.. Stop acting like a spacepoor and complain about prices...
Btw, jobs are OP.
2K for a handbag and you consider that low end? Yea you have a clue what it's like for those that make less than 2k a month.
Oh and for the record, I will be getting the Overlord soon, but I bought it piecemeal so as to not tax the budget, I don't own any other special mechs, outside of Sarah's Jenner, but that's different. BTW, the "engagement" ring my wife got me has diamonds surrounding a sapphire so dark people think it's an onyx at first glance, and my son attends the best private school in the state (region actually). So yea I have job (my wife only works PT but she's getting her PhD), but I also don't **** away money, and i for damn sure don't make fun of people who don't have a lot. So go ahead and wave what you think is a huge epeen around, not many of us are impressed.

And your point is?? You do know that PGI is a company that has to make payroll right? It's not just a group of guys working a couple of hours a week and trying to get us to pay them for it.
Even if it was, who put a ******* gun to your head? Play the game if it's fun, don't if it's not. I love LotR, first read it when I was 12, but the gameplay in LotR MMO not to mention the F2P mechanic turned me off it. I have a buddy who plays Rift, so I have an account and yea on a whim I dropped $5 on "credits" to get access to sell on the AH and wound up spending $.25 worth (yes a quarter) on a faster mount. Worst case if I quit playing I will give the account to my buddy so he can use it as a mule/trading account. Either way I am having fun with it and will get my money's worth one way or another.
Seriously, learn about the real world. You don't work for free, and if you live for free it's because you leech off your folks or society.

Try $300 a month... That was my first paycheck..
You work you buy the things that you like.
Don't complain that digital pixels should cost less.

some cold hard truth there, you spend real money from a real credit card to buy an in game device that works a certain way. and then after a week or so it gets nerfed badly making it useless and unfit for the purpose you actualy purchased it.

$50-60 is not a lot anymore, especially with video games.
Nintendo games used to sell for $50 and think about how awful many of them were. Games have come a long way in terms of production and technology and with that, the price has to increase to stay profitable. GTA5 is the most expensive game ever created at around $265M, think of how many copies and DLC you need to sell to make a profit from that.
The fact is that games don't cost $50 for a full title anymore and haven't for a long time. Between getting all the launch content with a Collector's Edition and buying additional DLC, you're spending a few hundred on a single title before you know it. The pricing scheme of $50 for a full title and everything to go with it is antiquated, and I'm okay with this based on what capabilities games have today.

Cold Hard truth here to: everything you buy that has you sign something, voids them of a certain amount of responsibility for it after you buy it.
Sometimes even Real World objects do just what you are complaining about these Virtual World objects do.
As far as gaming is concerned, YES.
That is one of the facts of life.
That is one of the facts of GAMING life.
It bothers you?
Don't buy.
But recognize that your dislike of it does not mean that it is unreasonable.

This does not prevent people from throwing disposable income at it.
