A good post that newbs should consider, although my only amendment would be to consider the Firestarter, this is by far the easiest and most effective light out imo. The Ember is just boss.

That said, this was posted back in November ;)

I did? No kidding.

If this is the case why aren't you locked from this thread, with obviously nothing to contribute. The only issue here is you cannot stand the OP, you made that evident in the other thread. So you jump on someone else's work only to get it moved to K-Town to satisfy your own ego.

The same mentality exists here as in the other thread. We're defending unoptimized builds. the OP Points out the better mechs and people go beserk. Oh where is the Awesome? In the mechbay where it belongs lol.

good post op, I just hope it remains out here as a guide. Unfortunately that word 'guide' falls on deaf ears.

This thread just isn't complete until someone can tell me how lowly-rated my Grid Iron is! I NEED TO KNOW HOW TERRIBAD IT IS.

Oh dear, just read the updated thread.. ..while I can accept the .5 you knocked of the FB since this is a newb thread.. ..this is just lolwut;

Yen-Lo-Wang - [1.5 Star]
Centurion
The YLW goes wrong in exactly one place: It has Centurion arms. Centurion Arms are notoriously easy to hit and are a good reason for the 'mechs legendary durability. It's also why all the successful designs don't put any heavy guns in the arms - no guns at all most of the time. Long story short is if any experience player sees a YLW, they know it has 90% of it's firepower in an easily destroyed area and will cripple you instantly.

I will defend the YLW with one thing; KDR of 2.27 (Mostly from pugging). This mech is still as durable as any other centurion and while your main gun is on your right up, it very quickly trains you to utilise torso twist to protect it (using your left arm as a shield). While l33ts will 90% of the time go for the gun, if you utilise your twist + speed, you can increase your longevity. That and it is the perfect mech to learn your boundaries, patiences, how to hit & run etc - a bad YLW pilot will be a BAD YLW pilot, but training yourself in one of these can teach you some valuable skills.

Of course, if you run with the right mechs, chances are like most centurions most of the team will ignore you.. ..and other newb players have a hard time hitting centurions as it is..

..and dont make me have to bring out my 1,298 damage screenshot either... :D

Had to poke myself in the head a few times over it, but I seem to remember Morson as on of those "play it like this or you're not playing the game the right way" dorks.

You know the type - the kind of person who will boil everything down to raw numbers and claim only the absolute best of the best of the best (with a five-star distinction) is a valid choice in the game, and any 'mech config that is even 1% less efficient than the best is totally worthless.

Add to that a mighty need to validate himself by the standard "hey devs, do things my way or this game is doomed", and the standard "i can rebalance the whole game in my head and get it right in one go with no testing" attitude, and you have the quintessential forum troll/attention w***e.

He tends to do that when people disagree with him, most often when they're right.

What is sad is that is about word for word what he said just before he quit.

In his defense though (Surprise!!) in the uber-intensive-competitive-crowd - any advantage is huge, even a 0.00000000001% increase.
So for the uber-competitive, only the 5* units/moves/whatever are any kind of viable.

His big mistake was believing that was true for even the non-uber-competitive.

He didn't rage quit. He got perma-banned for bad-mouthing Paul on the forums.

Yenlo is very potent - and one of my favorites.

But if your opponent knows what he is doing, it only takes a little bit of luck for him to have a good shot of taking your arm off before you can do much to him. :D

You must have missed all his posts right before that happened.

Don't worry - it was easy.
He was only posting about how horrible the game and it's developers were in almost every thread in ever topic.

At least once a page.

All day.

Whether it ends with a ban or you just quitting, that is known as a rage quit dude.

Oh, I don't dispute the content or frequency of his negative posts. I'm just pointing out that Paul made sure Victor couldn't continue his rants on the forums.

Also, he didn't rage quit the game itself. He still plays fairly regularly.

I really doubt that - but if you have seen him play, you would know better than I.

I've dropped with him several times in the past, so he's on my friend's list in-game. I see his name show up as "online" a few times a week.

Grats then, you know if he actually enjoys the game, (IE he is one of those that prefers to talk smack about the things he likes?)

Because if he actually means what he says - I am amazed that he still plays.

(I am not trying to make fun of him, or make him look bad)
