They've already said that a lobby is coming. But, it doesn't really matter seeing as the weight limit will be set which will already allow teams to decide who is taking what.

There are a lot of things 'coming' but by the time we get these things (CW, lobby, ui2.0) there may be no one left playing.

Tonnage limits should introduce a psychological shift that's been sorely missing.

The only psychological shift that is missing is the drive to continue playing (primarily for those of us who have been here a while)....and this can only be solved by giving us CW's...or at the very least a proper lobby system.

Everyone that sees tonnage limits as some kind of salvation for MWO seem to think it's not them who will be forced to drop in the Locust so that their team mates can have fun in their heavies and assaults.
I'm with Fup on this one; role warfare is way more important to the future of MWO than tonnage limits.

Agreed.

Yup, I know this - but it might be true for lights, not mediums. With medium, you are either fast or have enough guns to try to outmanuever/decimate an assault. I play all weight classes, and well, mediums are just in a bad place right now.

Not necessarily true. A few days ago I had a shadow hawk make mincemeat out of my AS7 D-DC. I had to applaud how he tore my nasty assault mech to shreds. I was reminded of that quote off of robin hood with Kevin Costner. "If needs be, I will take you one piece at a time"

I do have to be honest, and say that I am a horrible pilot when it comes to mediums. My buddy Schrike can conduct a symphony with one, but I am just glorified cannon fodder. But then again, its my piloting skills. Not my mech. =[

Oh, I know, I've too been on receiving end of skilled medium pilot in my assault, and I'd got shredded to pieces. On occasion. Problem is, it takes twice the skill to do well in mediums that it takes in assault, and If we assume comparable skill - medium'll get blasted 80% of the time.

Who gives a {Scrap} about 12v12. The weight limit is so that the base level game - which right now is PUG matching - can actually be fair AT ALL. Right now it's {Scrap} {Scrap} {Scrap} because they made no effort until now to balance by weight.

If you want to 12v12 bring your A game who cares about tonnage at that point.

It's really simple guys;
Pugs and Teams don't get mixed. EVER PERIOD. NEVER. (4 man teams are matched with other 4 man teams to play)
Then;
Pugs are matched together to an even weight.
Teams do whatever the hell they want.

So easy. It's how everything else that has ever succeeded, ever, has done matching.

As a personal note i don't mind the weight limits..

I'm way bored to see teams with 4-6 assaults while the other team only has 1-2 as best.. mostly due premades (this is 3-4 players droppng together) wanting to play the easy mode.

There is skilled lights/medium/heavy/assault pilots -yes.
Can a med or a light kill an assaults? -yes
but when the opposing team has around 200-300 extra armor just counting CT that gives a lot of free room to avoid mistakes and turn the tides just because premade XXX don't want to compromise not because they LIKE or LOVE play assaults aside of easy win.

How hard is this? STOP MIXING PREMADES AND PUGS. It's super easy. So easy it hurts. IT'S WHAT EVERY OTHER GAME EVER DOES. Why is this different? Just end it.

I'm still hoping someone will give some context to this thread. 14 pages and no one has bothered saying what Russ actually said. We've known about weight limits coming for a while now. Suddenly Russ posted some mysterious message that has given cyber wedgies to a few members of our community.

Well, it's not that hard to go to https://twitter.com/russ_bullock and have a look.
This conversation seems to have to do with matchmaking and weight restrictions: https://twitter.com/...337190743719936

You keep beating everyone with the same "what I want" stuff. Whether you or anyone else likes it or not, MWO is and will be even more so with the advent of CW, a TEAM based game. If you wish to participate in the TEAM environment, there may well be some sacrifices that each TEAM member will have to make at certain times to achieve the TEAM goal.
Yeah, because weight limits are going to be a problem for solo players... If a group of two or more friends want to play together, but they prefer playing in heavier mechs their only options are to play want they don't want to play or to not play together. Sounds about as stupid of an argument as the nonsense that people wanting people to play whatever they want are the selfish ones. As for teams you do understand weight limits limit team comps and team strats right?

Are the people who are opposed to tonnage limits the same people who complain when someone starts capping their base?
No, they are not or at least I am not. Feel free to look at my post history I am very much for people being able to cap and play the game the way they want rather than play how others seem to think they should play.

Nobody is forcing you to not drop in your Atlas.
Actually, they are if the people I play with also like to drop heavy and they introduce weight limits.

What do you do if you're going to play checkers with somebody and they take the colour that you want to play? Do you cry like a baby or play with the other colour for that round?
Doesn't matter in checkers since both sides play the same way it is just who starts first. In MW:O the mechs all play differently and handle differently as such people don't always enjoy playing certain mechs or certain types of mechs. So my question is do you always resort to petty insults when you don't have an argument?

View PostFut, on 27 November 2013 - 10:29 AM, said:

Games have been limiting people since the beginning of gaming - it's just a part of the package. The problem is that people have been spoiled with MWO because things weren't implemented when they should have been (ie. Tonnage Limits should have been in the game from the beginning) and now they whine and cry because things are changing. Besides, this isn't a hard "no" for your desired Mech at all. It'll all come down to the luck of the draw and your negotiating skills with your team...
Yes, games do give limitations, but it usually isn't a situation where they don't allow you to play whatever class of character/vehicle that you want. Call it crying if you want, but the crying is no worse than all the people that have complained about not having weight limits.

View PostFut, on 27 November 2013 - 10:29 AM, said:

Seriously though, if not being able to play the exact thing you want every single time is bothering you, I think you need some lessons in sharing.
I guess this answers my question just more personal attacks instead of an actual argument.

From what I understand of the matchmaker and elo its mostly random draw on drops unless your in a premade so Joe with a high ELO might drop with Bob with a low ELO as often as either player would drop with someone of there close ELO.Now on top of all this Bob and Joe must decide what weight mech to take? I just don't see players being civil about what class or weight mech they will voluntarily take into a match.

With the current MM/ELO system it would be better to make it a random generated ELO/weight pick per person and let the match begin. So BOB gets a assault 100 tons and joe gets a medium etc etc untill all game slots are filled and the match drops and begins. Each player get a random mech based on the random weight the MM picks for them. Of course if a player does not have that mech weight type he is dropped from the match and waits in a que till the mech/weigh the has can be placed in a match.

It would be so much easier for PGI to build a MSN gamming zone and let everyone play what they want based on the league there in and what they like to play on there team.PGI has the most stupid way of trying to make MWO work when its so easy to fix.
