sometimes people aim for the legs but those fights tend to end with me without a leg, and them dead.

That's the problem with legging: doesn't kill nor half the firepower.

Do you think shadow hawks have a larger cockpit hitbox than average ?

on 1vs1 situation yes 2vs1 fastest way to bring him down is to get legs because if he is good he will torso twist and manage to get out of there. in the end it all comes down to situation.

I find it funny that the Shadow Hawk is doing so well. When it was released in the phoenix package people were on the side line on how well it would do. But its become a dominate Medium mech. The extra 5 tons really just lets it outclasses the Hunchback in every way.

55tons really is the magic bread and butter number. Letting it deal with heavy, and light mechs very effectively.

It's not the 5 extra tons so much as the godlike hitboxes and good hardpoint layout (particularly the shoulder AC). Otherwise, we'd be seeing Kintaros dominate because those are the same weight.

Very true.

I sympathise with you, OP. I hate them. Especially since a lot of them like to run annying AC2 loadouts. I treat them like centurions. Every time you get a forward/rear facing shot, take it and go for the CT. Otherwise, don't bother unless there are no other targets. The arms make it near impossible to hit the torso from the side. They do die quickly to well placed shots, it's just hard to place them from an angle.

Also, a headshot works really well if you can get it. The cockpit is a visible and clear, if small, target.

Legging is a great tactic

Against lights and cicadas. If you try to leg my bigger mechs, while you're shooting my legs out I'm taking out your weapons and torsos

SHD-2D2

SHD-2D2

SHD-5M

not everyone skimps the armor on Shawks :D

I usually find taking out the torso is easiest way. It just depends on the build really on how I deal with them but more are short to medium range type designs so if you have ranged weapons taking them out at 700+ meters is always good

4xSSRM 2xMPL and BEAGLE makes an awesome 2D2.

I may try that build out. I've got a few 4SSRM Shawk builds but I don't use BAP often enough to know if it's worth it

Well it completely disables ECM so basically there is no light that can operate within 270m of you because you can kill them with 3-5 salvos.

Hmmm.........

I'll definitely try it out. I always use regular MLs as opposed to pulse though so I might switch those out and drop in another DHS or buff the armor if needed. I like the build though, I'm going to give it a shot

I tweaked it a bit but this is what I came up with
SHD-2D2

I'm a sucker for my LLs and I think it gives me a chance to pop off damage at range if I'm sticking with my slow plodding assault buddies to keep lights from swarming on them.

I think SHD are a little bit unbalanced... So hard to hit that thin jumping "centurion" CT

Since MWO is a game where anaybody can level up a mech in a week, OP and nerfing things aren't a concern as characters in MMO where you can spend month raising something...

If somùething is OP, just level it. If it is nerfed, throw it or keep it just for fun...

Anyway, my best answer to the SHD is my AC40 firebrand, wich is an even more unbalaned mech :D (C'mon, one shooting light mechs is a sport).

I feel also that my stalkers have become too slow in that JJ fest game.

not true. I t disables the NEAREST ECM, and if more than one unit is in range with ECM; it will counter the BAP. And most good wolf packs out there have multiple ECM.

Is it still worth it? Certainly, but it's not the cure all to Lights, ECM or Wolfpacks.

Yeah the 4-5 other tons could be whatever lasers you like, I suppose the core of this idea is the beagle with the SSRM's on a 115?kph medium... a real "hawk"

I was a little wrong though your range against ECM lights is whatever the beagle counter range is which isn't 270 it's like 200 or something

yes. Making a Shad into a glorified Kintaro is indeed one of the fastest ways to kill a ShadowHawk.

Both mechs are 55 tons, and as such their armor is identical. However, the Shaq Hawk has much better hitboxes and the JJs can be used for further damage spreading.

right yes, and JJ's is probably the hugest part... I'm trying to remember exactly why I hated the kintaro so much... it's really the profile and jets that make all the difference. You could also cram machine guns on the 2d2 if you wanted

over engine, and under gun them both, and they are both overspecialized POS. I always laugh when I see these builds because it means easy prey for my Hawk.

I actually feel like the 4SSRM 2d2 build is a hawk killer itself! The SSRM barrage is just so nasty. I have no problem 1 on 1 with any other light or medium.
