Generally, it isn't the mech that is the problem, it's the application of tactics towards the particular chassis that causes issues. Big fat side torsos, for example, require a more suttle approach to standard combat. If you cannot adapt, you will fail.

May the force be with you.

JagerMech with AC5s + ER large lasers, Ilya with 3 AC5s and 2 large lasers, Highlander with 2 UAC5 and 2 PPCs or Shadowhawk with a gauss rifle.

Running 320 std, 3 LL, 2ML, SRM 6 SRM4.

I can't speak too much as to the hitboxes and XLs, since i've been running a standard engine since the patch with this loadout. I do like being able to keep going withou half of my mech though...

I just take em with afterburner, edit em in GIMP, then upload em to photobucket.

Retaining the current chassis shape and size, they could make it a lot more durable simply by enlarging the arm hitboxes until the torso of the Awesome is the same width as the Victor's. Yes, that would mean part of the "armpit" area would count as being the arm hitboxes even though it looks like side torso hitboxes, but that would help the Awesome use its arms to tank damage. You could even leave the arm debris there when the arms are destroyed, to tank damage the same way the Centurion does.

The other issue with the Awesome is that it needs to be able to peek, shoot, and run away to cool off because of the reliance on energy weapons. But the low-slung weapon mounts and lack of jump jets means that it has to expose itself for a looooong time to clear its weapons to fire, and then after firing it's further exposed for more time while you try to get back into cover.

Stalkers, despite relying heavily on energy weapons also, do much better because of the high weapon mounts, minimizing the time you are exposed for.

I use photobucket too, but everytime I link an image from it, the image is much smaller (and thus harder to read) than the ones most people post here.

Awesomes work best as defense or second line mechs more than anything else in my experience, my 8Q being the only Assault mech I currently own and I play it a ton.

That doesn't necessarily make them bad mechs, they're just not good brawlers. You can cause the enemy lots of grief if you hang back behind the big fight a bit and pop shots in from cover.

Having the weapon hardpoints spread out across the chassis seems to help with survivability too; lose a side torso and chances are you still have big guns on other hardpoints.

I agree about the weapon mounts being too low, however.

Well you got me there! Thanks for implying this has happened just the one time though.

I find a good counter point to dying early and losing is to not die and win far more often, which, according to my game stats, I'm apparently good at despite myself. I'm not exactly sure when I met the grisly fate you describe as I only played a couple of games today, but in my defence, I did score 5 kills in one of them.

Returning to the roots of this 'discussion' for a moment, would you care to make some sort of argument as to why the Awesome is in any way a good Mech? That's basically what I've been talking "a lot" about (with some bravado), and no amount of face planting my Shadowhawk into the dirt is going to detract from that.

While I find it flattering that you think I somehow invented the current meta ("rickyspanish approved build"), I assure you I'm not the sole person to discover how a fat torso, slow speed and lack of jump jets and ballistics on an Assault is a severe handicap.

As the time for reasonable debate seems over, I shall leave you with this last statement:

You won't won't meet me, trust me. If you do, it means the matchmaker has screwed you and it's time to bend over.

You must run a D-DC with the Command Console intact so your ego can ride shotgun.

There was no "reasonable debate". It is not about issues with the Awesome. It is about your opinion that everyone must play mechs that best serve their team and fit with the current meta, not what they want to play. Sorry but I do not owe it to you or anyone else to play optimum mechs. I'm here to have fun and that means running the mech that I want NOT the mech you want me to run.

Sorry that you are so blinded by your own inflated self opinion that you cannot even see what a farquaad you are.

I was referring to the game you complained about with the AC/40 Cicada.

How is the Awesome good? Because I make it pretty, Baby! :D :D

The Pretty Baby is one of my best scoring Mechs with 6 kills (the other is the Spider 5D). Should be 7 but someone stole the kill. :)

strangly i have seen awesomes doing okay. as premades mostly and the guys droping whom were joking about running to their deaths for testing purposes, and i happened to be in that first match where they ramboed and did die first, i regretted trying to support them. then after an argument on the next drop where after such chat and actions i thought they were deliberatly griefing in the name of "testing" guess what happened? they actually did pretty well and again in the next match they did well, awesome 9ms and 8qs.

TBH they're fine as sneaky mechs or hold hands premades, some maybe satisfied with the hitboxes but really toe to toe they can't take on simillar mechs for their width and fire capacity still hold'em back. they're too situational and therefore too much effort for most people {nice going@awesome pilots in the thread i know the CB-OB awesome pilot feel bros} so you won't find them as soloists in higher elos.

i hope PGI take another look at the awesome so finally you don't feel bad when you come across a victor.

Well, in fairness, the build dictated the tactic. The problem is, that meant he left his team down a man during the majority of the match. Thus, his choice of build and tactics did directly contribute to the teams loss. Had he been a team player, in a mech that actually was useful, he could have supported the main thrust of the team, and possibly it would not have been 3 to 1 at the end.

I am all for running what works for the person. But most of these extreme builds really don't. But in this case, the build just revealed the selfish Statwhore nature of the pilot.

If it works for the person, it works for the person. Whether it works for the team is another matter. However there is far more to helping a team than running an optimal mech. Having an awesome mech means nothing if you cannot pilot it or have a lapse in judgment. The best load out will not save you if you push too fast over a hill and find two lances blasting you with everything they have. A super mech won't do diddly if you are clueless enough to rush into the open when your opponents are raining lrms on everything that moves.

It is equally possible that if the rest of the team hadn't screwed the pooch then there would not have been a 3 on 1 at the end either.

There have been games where I have sat on base the entire game because my team leader asked for some to volunteer for that duty. I may not be out there pound on people but at the same time the rest of the team can relax a little because there is someone there that can give a heads up to a cap situation or buy time while the rest of the team gets back. Just because this game does not reward taking one for the team does not mean it is not useful.

And yes, I have saved the win for my team before because I was there to blast that damaged light who tried to cap at the last moment. It may have been a measly ten points of damage but it won the match. Thankfully my team mates appreciated that rather than rage about not "contributing".

so, your builds are not completely optimized for the current "ac-meta".
Please get yourself 2 AC20s for your Jager, 3 UACs or 3 AC10s for your Ilya, an AC20 for the 2 UACs in your HGN, and 3 AC2s for your SHD... with your current builds, you are no help for your team.

try harder, come back when you changed your loadouts, nobody wants you in his team with these crappy setups =)

They are ok now, damage goes all over the Torso if you twist.
Of course it is the weakest of the Assaults as to be expected by their tonnage and lack of ammo based Guns.
PPCs worked better for me than Lasers...
