I believe Bryan said about 2 months ago that the entire Commander tree is gone and completely replaced with a new Commander mechanic. Getting late here so I might try and find it tomorrow.

I never saw a response. Don't think it has been decided how to do it yet, or at least not publicly.

But from that post it does seem like scout, attack/defense and fire support might be the 3 roles now, but who knows.

At first I was like "OMG Attk/Def all the way" but now..... hmm its either gonna be Scout or Attk/Def depending on what mech Im planning on starting with. Scout if im going with a support mech like the Catapult or Attk/Def if going with a good brawling med/heavy/assault.

I will go for the Atk/Def tree even though i will focus on being a scout. I need the ability to mount those vision modules as quickly as possible.

Pretty much this. Looking at the trees, I think I can get a lot more use out the Atk/Def line than Scout.
...with the rider that everything is subject to change, especially my mind :P

I'd like to play command but without voice coms I don't see what the purpose of a commander would be. In BF2/2142 as commander with voice coms you could communicate with squads and do some really great coordination in game to win. But we'll see how it goes.

You can always use vent or TS

Having it built into the game client as in BF2 made it to where no matter who you were teamed up with you would be able to communicate with your squad if you are the squad leader and the squad leaders if you were the commander. Additionally, by limiting the commander's ability to only communicate with the squad leaders (and his own squad if he was part of one), it helped keep the commander from being talked over by squad members and such. TS/Vent/Mumble are cool and all, but it doesn't make it easy for "pubbing" and such. I plan on being part of a structured clan so at least I'll know that my lance can communicate. But to really enable the commander to do his job, a built-in voice system is too good of an idea to leave out.

And with that, onward to the suggestions board!

Scout/Assault - Unless this ends up being one of those mildly annoying games where hybrid specs are discouraged by design. Hopefully not, since we have what appear to be 4 garage bays (based on the mech lab video), hopefully we'll have some fluidity with pilot skills for various mechs.

Scout

The excitement of scouting by yourself. At any moment you can be found and killed. Many memories scouting in a cougar in mechwarrior 4 with radar off. Accidentally running into and with the enemies formation...very surprised they not notice the slight diff of color scheme...and then slowing down and ducking off. That was excitement and will never forget. Better to be lucky than good.. :)

Command.

1) Seems most people don't want to play it.

2) I like support roles.

3) I'm the head of my Merc Guild in MWO, so it only makes sense I go Commander.

As a Lone Wolf, I will most likely go for "Assault Scout" hybrid if possible... who knows, maybe some Merc unit will ****** me up and I'll specialize at some point.

We've already made a signiicant update to the Roles. After carefully reviewing our classes we've decidced to rename Commander and move command functions into a different aspect of the game. This will allow any role to be a leader, and make room for a support role.

I'll be posting a blog later in March to update the changes.

Command order view looks interesting, as long as other players trust you and listen. Whenever I play my medium tank on WoT I usually try to act as a commander. Works well when people listen.
