Since we can't have the Warhammer I often wonder what would be a great replacement.

The Hammer Hands and the Battle Axe were both old, old designs (despite appearing in a recent book) from the Age of War, pre-dating the Star League. They're both cited as prototypes for the popular Warhammer. Interestingly, both can also jump.

Well, maybe we should have those in the game?

Personally I prefer to get the Battle Axe. It is a Warhammer with missiles instead of medium lasers for backup weapons. Twin PPC arms, Twin LRM-5's, and a shoulder SRM-6 and jump jets. Although it isn't shown here those little pods on the arms would probably be a clear locations for 2 more energy hardpoints.

It is by far the closest we could probably get.

The other one is the Hammer Hands. Instead of PPC cannons in the arms this one has AC-10's and medium lasers, and an SRM-6 in the right spot. It is slow, but again, like it's cousin this one can jump.

Interesting concept one which I am for (you should let Odanan know about this) but the question is; will PGI make a new non-canon mech that will open a whole new can of worms and will the fans be ok with a remake? No matter how you look at it, it is still a reseen Warhammer by a different name which will surely upset some of the few diehard fans. You should see if you can post a poll of this and then after enough votes tweet/send it to Russ and Bryan and see what they think.

The art in the AeroTech book showed the Warhammer with both the missiles and lasers in the torso sides. Largely because that's what the Tomahawk was actually setup like that (I forget what the lasers really were). I bring that up because if the Hammerhands and the Battleaxe were fair game designs then I really see no reason an original Warhammer couldn't exist. These are already in that derivative(ish) area and an "original" would be in the same boat.

Not to mention what happens when a mech goes through Alex anyway. It would be different enough after that.

As to the question of the alternate mechs though; I could live with them too. Like the Battleaxe's shape more than the Hammerhands but both aren't terrible.

What I find odd is that all of the alternative Warhammers I have come up with (Guillotine, Grasshopper, Battle Axe, and Hammer Hands) all of them can jump.

I'm leaning towards Hammerhands because it gives us a slightly heavier dual-heavy-ballistic platform (although won't be able to accommodate AC/40, but w/e). It seems to stand out slightly more than the Battleaxe does.

Probably the Battleaxe. Not that either is likely. My BLR-1G has proven to me that a low tube count (10 or less) with only a single missile hard point won't be much good until we get Streaks in 4 and 6 packs. If we do get the 4 and 6 pack Streaks I would be all over the Hammerhands.

Hammer hands looks like a mini Annihilator so I would prefer it. Althogh that might make the Annihilator less of a possibility.

I feel the quad ballistics location, and dragoon exclusivity have already made that pretty much a given, anyhow.

Both are original FedSuns home-grown 'Mechs... though, the Hammerhands (which I, personally, prefer) is the one that ignited the AFFS' long-standing love affair with the autocannon... ;)

I would love a hammer hands, personally.

I doubt PGI would put it in game, though.

Despite them being interesting, I would consider these mechs to be only available during Jihad though...

Actusally, theyr'e both Ancient mechs, preWarhammer. The Hammerhands was stopepdin production DUE to the Warhammer being better in fact.

True, but that elusive third variant only shows up in the future for each of them.

Based on hardpoints, it would be little better than a CTF-4X with jump jets. The only thing it would be good for is pop-tarting, probably with 2xAC5/2xPPC.
