I'm loving this Ember and am using Build #1.
So much fun... I grin from ear to ear when I think of this mech.
I did a drop with a lance made up entirely of Embers, one of us went with the four flamers, 1 with 4MLs, 1 with 4SPLs, and 1 with AC2s. took down an atlas and a stalker in under 13 seconds. It has surpassed my expectations so far, and I love the fact that it can do pretty much any role out there.

Yeah, even with the Elite bonus kicking in later, it won't have as much as a commando or a jenner, but it's good enough honestly, any more torso twist/pitch on this mech and we'll probably never see anything BUT Firestarters.

5-10% off from everyone else (on paper at least)- which doesn't sound like much, but it adds up when you throw in terrain level differences, jumping and all those other little bits that make the battlefield such a predictable place.

I started this game in the fall (October?) and have played 3+ months.
I've now clawed my way into an adequate player and have mastered about 11 chassis so far. I still refer to your list to decide what to try next.
It hasn't always meshed with my playstyle (I enjoy the light mechs much more); but just wanted to let you know your continued efforts are appreciated.

Advertising their rotten chease builds where they ( the builds) should just be taken out of game.
All this bloated competitive bull in a game that isn't even near to finish is based on a meta that will change again and again.
Spamming this braggy advertisements on twitch and youtube at this state of the game will only cause an influx of some CoD style kids and promote this very mindset.
Things all real Mechwarrior and BT fans abhore.
All your *hey ho competition yo bro* postings are sparky and flashy and will only drag this game down the mainstream drain it is tethering to the whole time.
Start to think stop to brag.
Your intentions may be good trying to help new players to get more easy into the game but atm you and other competitive style players are doing more dmg to the game with advertising chease than the Smokejaguars did to the city of Edo.

If you refuse to accept that in a real-time multiplayer sim there will always be players who want to excel, then feel free to leave MWO and go back to single-player MW and tabletop BT .

One can missinterpret every text if one tries hard enough.
I'm not against competetive gameplay for itself nor I'm against ( self promoted or not ) seasoned pro players giving tips.
I'm against holding up chease and declaring this good and rightfull.
No one needs an other vid where someone is bragging about how cool he is using the flaws of the current implementation of MWO against an other playerwho may be at least trying to play it how its meant to be played.
Its not even funny anymore.
Or like it happened in this thread even promoting chease builds and declaring them beginner friendly.
Its just promoting the wrong playstyle and therefore boosting the whine when its getting fixed.
Its like setting a guy wich just got his drivers licence in a semi automatic controlled racing car which he is barely understanding.
Such a pilot knows if I press here it goes booom there. And thats about it.
Learning the game by driving chease builds that may be worthless tomorrow is highly contraproductive without knowing how they work, why its chease and how to USE an existing meta.
Its not about enjoying crazy builds.
Its not about someone beeing jealous of beeing set in a lower skillbracked or something.
Its about using a clearly malfunctioning meta isn't skill but it's promoted as skill.
Without understanding a build you will suck realy realy bad the moment the game is changed one bit.
The beginners problem in here isn't the fact that mastering mechs is too difficult.
The problem is that they encounter learned players from the beginning due to the smal players base.
Its even possible to encounter a veteran player on your first day if matchmaker has a weak moment.
The problem is that you encounter chease without any possible means of retalitation.
But the only thing you see is that you got owned. But you don't know why.
And just saying *use the right mech noob* isn't just low its flat out wrong.
Edit: By the way kudos to bro liking each others post seems....^^ cheaaaaaaaase

I discuss mech chassis.
You choose that V6, V8 in your pickup... That's a build choice you make. I'll tell ya if the Chevy, the Ford, or the Toyota is the better truck.
I'm not in charge of weapon balance ( I wish I was ) - what I do is tell you which chassis are the best at the current moment due to the state of weapon balance and other factors in the game.
You build whatever you want.

Um, you probably shouldn't be complaining about misinterpretation since you cannot even spell the word. Or Cheese, or Rightful, or Competitive, or Sigh, or a fair number of the words in the rest of your post.
Mav's list isn't about builds, it's about chassis, and if you scroll down through the OP you'd see Pugland rankings as well. It's designed to help prevent new players from wasting money on a chassis they'd regret, or at least know they are getting an uphill battle when they buy certain ones - like me and my Hunchbacks for example.
It's clear that you do not understand this thread, and frankly you sound sort of mad at video games. Relax a little, have a drink or whatever.

I disagree with you in that Mav's list isn't about builds, it's just about which chassis is best (in his opinion) for the current meta. I don't agree with his choices that often, but he's usually spot on with them.
Cheese builds on the other hand are a different setting, yes, they can influence which mechs are valued better but at the end of the day your own words are why this list is going to be somewhat balanced. You will SUCK in a mech you don't understand. It doesn't matter how much cheese you put in there, you could have all of Wisconsin (a state famous for dairy products) packed into your mech, and if you don't know how to use it right you're going to explode horribly. Which will lower your elo, which will put you with players with a similar skill level as you eventually.
Nvm, it will put you with people with lower skill levels than you, but can perform better, while your mech is the reason you get rated a bit above what you are. Basically these mechs will work for the pilots that can use them right. For them it's a force multiplier, for less skilled pilots it might be nothing more than a shiny coffin.
there's always going to be arguments about how these lists work and don't, but the consensus is that better pilots will almost always win. These mechs are currently the more forgiving of your mistakes as a pilot and that's what it's about.
Again, I disagree with Mav's assessment of some of these mechs, but he never once said there's absolutely only one build to put onto a mech. Cheese isn't his department.

That is not good criticism. It really doesn't help to tell people to just quit. It's hostile towards players, and doesn't present a good image for new players coming into the game. People can have disagreements and there are 2 ways of solving them properly, either make arguments until a resolution comes, or agree to disagree and move on.

There are no Mech Tiers.
There is no advancement / level / valuation system that can be applied to Mechs without leaving one massively important point without consideration.
The Mechwarrior.
Any Mech is only as good as the Pilot who's driving it.
And there are craziely good pilots out there driving insane configs that make no sense to other pilots but who are unable to drive the mainstream cheasebuilds with full effect.
And thats it. There are FOTM Builds out there caused by the current balancing and the abhorrable wish to create spezialized boats.
And there are Mechwarriors out there able to manage the Mechs as they should be.
Diverse, versatile and effective in many situations.
and thats how i always played the game, and i always do well

I'm having a ton of fun playing the Muromets with UAC5s...
I wouldn't suggest my build for a 12man group to play against SJR.. but it's damn fun..
Basically, the tier list helps new players choose mechs which are good for the future and helps new teams figure out what mechs they are (1) going to face and (2) what mechs they should consider.
A side effect of this list is to suggest to PGI which mechs need buffs.. cough.. awesome...
Isn't that good for everyone?
Have fun bros

I use the meta favourite and buff the other mechs to the standard of the meta. I think this is a more consistent, fair, and ideal approach to balance.
Nerf'ing things, in my experience of high-level gaming and beta-testing, tends to create unexpected results and imbalances the game for a temporary period until a new balance (meta) is reached - inconsistency and unpredictability are two things players generally hate.
Hence: small nerfs, moderate buffs is what I promote for game balance.

I know some people want to live in a bubble where bad chassis are fine, but I'm happy someone's bursting it.
