Lost Opportunities: The Clans

I'd like to see a star dropping in on a match, maybe not the 12 man steamroll as you described, though it does fit the lore. It may be bad for new players, those who have no clue.
Even if the devs could not provide the numbers required for the invasion, I'm sure there would be plenty of players who would sign an NDA and fill the spaces.
You got me wondering how difficult it would be to have the devs dropping into a match when 5 mechs in total have fallen. Then they literally drop into the map, unknown to the players, hunt and fight them. That would be fun.

There are definitely still possibilities out there. For all we know it was always PGI's intention to do something awesome for the Clan Reveal next year but their hand was forced for financial reasons. We probably won't get the truth behind what is going on for several years.

It doesn't even make sense. Telling him to keep digging his hole isn't trying to change the subject.

It makes me wonder if IGP is the marketing body and thus made the decision. They are the publishers, but I am by no means an expert on the subject. Any way it unfolds, I hope the game succeeds.

I can say that I loved the original post. I have played mechwarrior for a long *** time. I never read any books or sat in a comic book store and painted mechs and had BT parties ( to each his own), but if PGI did something like the OP suggested, I would have skipped a house payment buying stuff (not really ...j/s)
From a non forum celebrity perspective It appears that the Xhrit guy is clearly someone from PGI. If not, he must be riding it pretty hard....

So, you are telling me it isn't trying to change the subject, because... the subject we were talking about was holes?
Your argument is so immersive.

Told you all you have to do is quote him and he'll be back. It's like magic. Must get last word in. Please point out where anyone claimed to be changing the subject, if not clearly no one was changing the subject, duh it's logic.

I'm still waiting for someone to show me exactly where PGI stated the goal of CW was immersion. ^^

I'm waiting for you to explain how it possibly couldn't be a goal for CW. You must have a pretty low opinion of PGI if you think they're not at least going to try.

From my perspective they don't even try to make immersive mechwarrior game just see what mechs are equipped its funny those mechs don't resemble anything like in BT just look K2 mounting heavy balistics on energy mech it removes JJs and 2 ML to add MGs and somehow we are able to put two gauss/heavy AC in there, also BJ with AC20 list goes on and on that brakes immersion. There are many more problems like that I don't expect to see copy past BT values but if we go to sarna and read about K2 or bj we see that those mechs are not anything like those. Also where is the lore and something that should immerse us into wolrd of inner sphere ? I can go on like this for quite some time but you get the picture its obvious that they never thought about immersion.

IMO, based on everything I have heard.. IGP is really hurting any chance this game had of being awesome, all in the name of monetizing.

If a PGI employee said it he'd be slobbing on that knob.
But since it's a goon, well...

But the way the Clans will be in MWO isn't anything even close to "epic". Just a different experience, not the next level.

It did not turn out so well when High Rez Studio's tried it in Global Agenda. I still don't think it would be a good idea here.

IGP is PGI, and vice versa. IGP is not hurting this game - IGP is the only reason this game even exists.
I hate to use Hi Rez Studios as an example again, but much like PGI, they were a small indie developer who purchased an old beloved FASA franchise to remake into a free to play online multiplayer game.
The Tribes series after all is a direct descendant of Mechwarrior - too bad Tribes Ascend did not make enough money, so it's development was halted.

What good is your friends list? Your friends list is not meant to be immersive, is it? What about the mech bay? Immersive would be walking around in first person mode on foot in your mech bay while you watch your tech crew repair your mechs in real time. Clearly the mech bay was not designed for immersion.
There is a line between immersion and fun.
Mech Warfare was designed to provide immersion, like you are actually in the cockpit piloting a mech.
Role Warfare was designed to provide balanced gameplay options.
Information Warfare was designed to provide incentives for teamwork.
Community Warfare was designed to to provide longevity and replay value.
Those are the four pillars of MWO's design principals, according to the development video that was posted earlier in this thread. You could say Community Warfare was designed to provide immersion, and Information warfare was also designed to provide immersion, and Role warfare was designed to provide immersion too; you could say that everything in every game was specifically designed to provide more immersion... but you would be wrong.
