I have also made the analogy of third party voice to hacking. I was not clear that I was trying to make a point in my last post about voice chat. So I'm scrapping that comparison. It just comes across as a hard line accusation.
In essence of player need a 3rd party program to get the proper quality of play out of your game, then the developers made a huge mistake. A team oriented game like MWO, BF, COD, LoL, WoT, and many more require clear and easy voice communications.
Not all games have bad voice coms. Battlefield 2 and 2142 had great voice com systems. They also had a way to mute problematic players. It is the standard on which I judge other games buy.
The goal for any game that requers groups of people to cooperate should be to make TS3 unnecessary. It would be a benifet to have for every one. Merc units would be able to talk to general pugs and make themselves known. It will allow them to gain members easier. It will help take down the barrier between casual players and competitive players. Out side of Steel Jaguars, and the Wolf Spiders, because of JagerIIX and Centurion, I have no idea what other merc units are doing. They are completely segregated from the rest of the community.
If PGI wanted to do voice coms right, they should listen to both the casual, and competitive players to see what they want from vioce chat. Then design a system that would work for both.
