Yep...we're not arguing for one or the other. We want both!

What if players could direct AI bots against human players? That would be some fun co-op on one end and strategy on the other mix-em up!

no, I would not play it no than 3-4 times(I would give it a try just to be sure). I'm not a MMO player or a fan of games like mech commander or megmek

The real face of MW on the pc has always been from the first person prespective. To change it to turn based type of game now, you can count on losing 95% of people that would want to play it how they remember it.

Isn't that the holy grail of Battletech? A turn based game that would cover planets. Take or lose ground. Gain resources, build up your holdings. Make your own units to go conquer or defend. There is always going to be room for MW style games, but there is that need for a digital version of BT on a strategic level down to smaller fights of lance on lance BT games.

It would really impress me if MWO had a the turned based hexmap strategy game as well. I would absolutely pay for that.

Would you?

No. I want MWO to be the sim that they have announced. When I'm in the mood for turn based combat, I login to the forums. <_<

I would buy a Battletech/Battleforce computer game in a heartbeat. With the ability to play against others online. I'm not sure how that would work as an MMO. They are different games MWO and Battletech/Battleforce.

No, I wouldn't. If I want a turn based experience I'd go to my kitchen table. On my PC I expect a Mech combat sim.

The computer version of Battletech would be way faster to play. The computer could set a game up in seconds. A lance on lance game would be over in under 20 minutes. You would click and move your mech by running/jumping/ walking on the map and the computer would see if you took damage or not. You would pick the weapons to use and the computer would see if you hit it and where the damage was taken. Your heat going up or down/crits etc... all done with the computer doing the rolls and paper work. Plus an online version of Battletech would get players together that don't have a close BT player at hand. It's not MWO but it's not supposed to be. I would play both. ;)

Somehow I don't think that 95% of the people here are FPS only types, not from all the posts I've seen. Not to mention MC &MC2.

With the prices of tablets dropping, you never know in 18 mth's there could well be a tablet touch screen version of the desktop "BatleTech"

Imagine 2-3 mates sitting around and playing over a tablet... ummm time to get programming...

I'm not sure. The idea of a Total War:Battletech style game appeals to me greatly as I enjoy RTS (maybe turn based, but I think we left that behind a while ago when computers got good enough, right..? that said, I still play UFO Enemy unknowen) however, I like the fact that on the computer, battletech exists as a form that could only possibly exist in the computer; you can't do a first person simulation like Mechwarrior in real life, not even as an RPG. in real life, Battletech exists in the forms that suit it best; as a table top war game and as an RPG

What I am basically suggesting is that do we really need a computerised TT game, when we already have the TT? I know you are probably going to tell me about convenience and community building etc etc etc, and yes that's all very good...I just like the fact that this is here as a simulator, that is there as a table top game and maybe we don't need to compromise the sanctity of either.

Honestly, I never really dug anything turn-based, with the exception of chess. To me, turn-based combat takes about 80% of the fun out - you can't be as sneaky, you can't just dodge things, it's all down to a cracked game of numbers, ruled over by the malevolent god known as probability.

Its ironic you would pose this question now. Before I found out about MWO, I was actually wishing for a Battltech-esque game portrayed on of all things Facebook! Something I could jump into mess around for a little bit and jump out of just as easily. A time killer that frankly doesn't require me to visit my neighbors or harvest crops! I think with the right mind a battle tech flash/java game would be quite interesting as a turn based set up or even a Solaris 7 style 1 on 1 kind of gladiator battle would lend itself quite nicely to the idea. In the end would I play a turn based version of Battletech? If it was done well and true to the game I think I absolutely would! Especially if it offered the ease of say a chess match where you can make a move and then go do something else and come back when your opponent has made their move. Where a match might take a day or a week of 1-5 minute moves.

MegaMek is great. A 3D'ish version of it with animated attack sequences would be awesome though. Something like a Battletech flavored Front Mission.

I'm not so sure how turn based would translate into an MMO though. A single engagement could quite possibly take forever with the way some people play.
