Nah - he was clearly far more concerned with not pulling his siblings' realms (along with the rest of the IS - the Star League was still extant at that point) into a war that, while the IS would most likely have won, simply wasn't worth it (considering that the issue was keeping hold of Katherine; why wasn't she tried - and executed - over the assassination of Melissa Steiner, again? Or handed over to the Combine to be tried over the assassination of Omi Kurita?).

"So, why not let Vlad have Katherine? Why not let him (and the Wolves, in general) go through the trouble of having to feed her, house her, put up with her machinations, and so on?"

Weak argument. Like a Clan feeding & housing ONE person would cripple their economy. :( Victor did not seem to have the same bravado as when he made his speech on Strana Mechty. He said it himself the IS fights when it has to. The Clans have warriors ready to fight all the time. The only thing holding back Vlad was the Truce. "Give me the ***** or war." He got the ***** & left LIKE A BOSS!

I think Straum Wealh put more enfasis on "put up with her machinations"

And that is how you see it. I see it in another way: Victor wanted to get rid of her dear sister and had no reason to start a new war. 1+1=2

As I recall, there was another reason Victor was willing to let Vlad have Katherine: In order for her to be of any use to him politically, she would have to shed her phony peacemaker image and qualify as a warrior. It was Victor's belief living a warrior's life might be a worthwhile atonement for her, and may allow her to redeem herself somehow. (Being Katherine, this was certainly hopeful thinking on Victor's part.) It did cause Vlad a significant amount of internal tension within Clan Wolf, due to his apparent favoritism of Katherine however, and he had to deal with challenges to his rule as a result, so handing her over was probably most beneficial to the Inner Sphere at the time.

Both Victor and Vlad know that neither could afford a full scale war.

If I was Victor I'd just end both Vlad and Katherine. The Inner Sphere just had to kill them, then the war starts, challenge the Clans to a batchall and do Tukayyid all over boom done and 2 evil warlords done for.

Then you drag multiple realms into war, enrage a clan for killing it's leader in cold blood, and that's not even considering the fact that the Jihad is only a few months away at this time. Victor had also vowed not to become involved in affairs that did not concern Comstar. Killing Katherine and Vlad right there would violate that oath, as the Precentor Martial of Comstar, he would be committing an act of war by killing Vlad. Victor made the only reasonable choice he could at the time.

Vlad made the threat to make himself look good and he know Victor would find a way to keep both from going into an all out way.

Since the writers did not wanted her killed off meant they needed her for some future event. Giving her to Vlad gave the writers someplace to put her were she cannot do allot of harm and almost no influence on people around her. If she was imprisoned on Stiener or Davion space there would be attempts to free her. And from a Prison in the IS she could still influence many.

Unless, they find out he is not a True Born. Then there will be another seriers of book about Alaric Wolf getting the Stiener, or Davion, name added as a Bloodname.

Quote

Birth: Alaric was conceived in a Iron Womb (artificial conception), but he is not trueborn, due to lack of DNA from a bloodline, unless his mother's name becomes a bloodname.

Not true. Remember, she was being handed over to Clan Wolf-in-Exile when that "meeting" started.

Dude... You never look like a boss when you are a love struck dunderhead!

"Hey we just fought over the fate of the galaxy, now I wanna take your sister out. Gimme."

Sorry man, I don' see a tough guy I see kitty whipped. Going to war over one woman is PW. Though some of us would call it something more PC, like love. :P

I am Khan Marack Drock of Clan Blood Scorpion,

To the Grand Council of the Clans I put forth my petition to add Clan Blood Scorpion to the official ranks of the Clans. Our Clan (though not a believer of Kerensky) will abide by Clan rules of honor and respect all of our brethren. Does the council accept quiaff?

You just cannot be a Clan and not at the very least Accept Kerensky as a good leader. Every Clan that even thought about denying the man, is now a foot note...

I may not be a Clanner here, but I have run multi year Clan campaigns, I just cannot see the Grand Council offering you anything other than a Trial of Annihilation. Yes it is my opinion, but it is not one out of anger, maybe some prejudice, but then I have been on the inside of the CBT team for a lil while.
