A Dragon challenge tournament next? Real FRR style!

If the tonnage limit had been 240 and not 235 we probably would've used 4 Dragons in at least some matches just for the heck of it ;)

Awww nooo, please don't, I did horribly!

Good fights though and the limitations were great for making people run non-meta builds ;)

Thoughts for the future:

12mans tourney with similar limitations

Different rounds with random limitations: All lights/mediums, no ballistics or ppcs, std hs only, 1vs1 duels to last team standing, no weapons with more than 90m range, etc

ANYWAYS, good games and I hope we will see a repeat performance as soon as PGI manages to introduce private lobbies

Congrats to the victors! Can't wait to watch the streams later. I think the Isengrim had a leg up in this style of fighting due to their in-house duel style bouts, and the previous lance tourney. Well done all around. Hopefully I can participate in the next one!

Everyone oughta check out the twitch videos. All the matches are very exciting, and the commentators are great fun. Probably some of the best spectator stuff for MWO that is currently out.

Check them out!

You did fine. Your English is definitely better than my German. Lol.
Overall a great tournament. Thanks for a wonderful time. We will be looking forward to your next one.

The FRR Viking Lance Tournament is over!
I really want to express my thanks to all who participated in the games and I hope you all had just as much fun as I did.

The Isengrim Jarlsguard won well deserved with DoktorTotenkopfs Deaths Hand Brigade on second place and the Aseveljets IVth Y.M.C.A. Squad on third.

I would like to invite you all to give us your feedback about the tournament right here in the thread. We will consider all of it and use it to make sure our next tournament is going to be even better. As some of you already heard we are curently planing ahead and probably will go on with the next one as soon as we have private matches.

I also will work out a statement to send to PGI, regarding the lack of functionality and the obstacles we encountered in making this tournament. And I would like to make this an community effort to make clear that this is an issue that needs to be adressed. Giving the community the tools to organize events like this is in my opinnion the most pressing issue with MWO and I recon some of you might think the same.

We at Blue Vengeance are pleased with how things worked out. Despite the technical difficultys with long waiting times, the streams that weren´t archived and all the missmatches and delay we consider the tournament as a succsess.
Even our streams where reasonably succsessfull with 180 viewers in peak times.

You will hear of our upcomming event soon, we are aiming to reach even more participants and viewers and will start promoting it soon and aggressively.

Dude you´re asking questions. I dont even know íf we have them in higher quality. ;)
I definately will make another recut, just for the fun of it. But I doubt that we have the games in higher quality. They should be 720p as is though.

On twitch tv they are forced into that little box and its hard to see some things.. for me at least.. could be me.. not a whiz on twitch tv stuff.

The announcers though, that's the best part for me, so if you can leave them in that'd be nice. =D

Pretty hard to give feedback as I think everything went well, if you take out all the issues we cannot help: Syncs, DCs and such.

My opinion is still that there might be room for some minor adjustments if better are found, but these are no way necessary. Technical issues are by far the most critical issue.

Most striking to me was the usage of AC20s and SHDs and VTRs. Those 2 clearly gave best tonnage value to move around when doing the teams. And AC20 was clearly the weapon of choice with the pinpoint restriction and obviously it works well when you have to try to spread incoming dmg as much as possible. So maybe in future restrict more what teams can take, like must be 1 from each weight class or 1 per chassis etc.

I will leave this in the capable hands of people running the shows and make the best I can with the given rules if I join some future tourney.

We had it on fullscreen on the first day and had complaints about the in screen stuff obscuring the view so the streamers made the box thing. The stream videos are saved WITH the stuff around so I doubt that we have them without. I could enlarge them manualy and upload it but that is a lot of work. Maybe if I´m bored the other day.

Yes, that would have been our tournament meta. I didn´t want to give the players too much restrictions in what to bring to the tournament. The more restrictions one introduces the more the loadouts are going to be similar to each other. And of course we saw a lot of shadowhawks and victors, but we also saw quickdraws, thunderbolts, cicadas, hunchies and all the other cool stuff you normaly wouldn´t see in a tournament like this.
It would be a possibility to say one per chassis, but you would probably end up with just as many AC20 as before and I don´t want to forbid a weapon. The restrictions should be handeled with care, if we set them too tight we restrict the fun.

The tournament was great!
Thanks for organizing it!

If I'd have to think of what can be improved:
1) Times
Friday 8-12pm (midnight) was already pretty tough, but Saturday 10pm (we didn't get to play until 11pm) until 0:30am was definitely very late.
If you wan't to have EU and US players, you should start earlier, or one side has a disadvantage.

2) Drop times
At the beginning, we had to wait a lot, because of missing drop-leaders or streamers.
It would be the best to have a set of any 12v12 combination with streamer/leader beforehand and save more time.

3) Drop locations
We had at least 3 drops where the starting points were at the drop locations of the opposite teams. Moving from one side of the map to the other side while the other team has to do the same wastes a lot of time and limits the surprise factor of loadouts if you cross the other team while moving in position.

4) Best of 3
In the qualifaction rounds everyone had 5 teams to fight so it was more like best of 5 than a best of 1.
But in the finals, all matches were best of 1 (K.O. style) instead of best-of-3 which it should have been.
This gives more exitement, more choices about possible surprise builds, and limits the up/down-side of luck in the random map drops.

All in all a nice tournament and I'd say the waiting + late starts were my biggest issues.

With changes to AC20's projectile speed PGI wanted it to become as primary brawling weapon, and seems that it works as intented  Everytime when we IV YMCA got into close proximity, it was pretty much cleansweep after that.
But it also has it's downsides, which were clearly visible in our match against Jarlsguard in Alpine Peaks, where they totally kicked our butt 4-0 with better mobility and ECM+PPC Cicada

But after all, absolutely great tournament and we had a lot of fun  Only critisism on my mind is, that I hope PGI to get the bait and develop private lobbies as fast as possible that drops can be ran more smoothly. It gets pretty exhausting when you are 1-3hrs on high alert waiting when your turn to play comes up. Besides that, everything went fine :P

Cheers!

First off, I had a lot of fun. The tonnage limits and pinpoint/LRM restriction were brilliant. Most of the fun was just coming up with legal, viable yet fun builds. Early on we kind of concluded that the meta would yield Victors and Light combos, but wanted something a bit more unique.

As for feedback, I just want to piggyback off of Reno Blade's points:
  • Times - The times worked great for me in the US, but I can't imagine how rough it was on any EU teams, especially those that ran the tournament. Perhaps we should look into a more favorable time.
  • Drop times - I think punctuality should be enforced out of respect for our EU teams. I feel disqualification would be a bit too harsh, however some penalty should be handed down for showing up late.
  • Drop location - I understand that we were pressed for time, therefore the crossing of teams were used as a way to remove the need for scouting. However if this is going to be done, ensure it is done equally for both sides. For example in my match we didn't have time to get into position as well as see our opponents, however their Jenner had full access to everything we had.
Hopefully with the inclusion of private matches time will be less demanding and we can remove the pre-scouting "handshake".
  • Best of 3 - In a game like MWO, that has so many RNG:
    • random maps drop
    • random ammo explosions
    • random arty/air strike
... single elimination finals are just too sudden. Again I realize we were pressed for time. Perhaps have quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals on different days.
With the limited resources BV ran a very nice tournament. I am enjoying watching the twitch streams and Ytube vids, reliving fond yet tense moments. So thanks for this opportunity, Klappspaten. We eagerly await the next one! Well done Jarlsguard, you played wonderfully and earned your victory.

Cheers.

As much as I support the "push" for private lobbies... It is schedulled for April with the launch module. Nothigh we can do to speed it up
