Guys, i finally tried the anaconda.
Oh boy if it's a nice ship... but way too expensive. Back to my beloved python, fulfitted with 1/3 the money needed for the 'conda.

How the hell did his shields recharge so quickly the first time?! Never seen that before. Admittedly my Viper is only just now ready to take on other players, sadly my Cr balance is not.

All that time playing MW:O helps with the Rail Guns, eh? :P People complain about the charge mechanic, but to us it's just a slightly harder to use Guass Rifle. I love it.

Hah well, I noticed that when I was fighting him but since he didn't do it again, I ruled out cheating. No idea what it was.

As for rail guns, they're still quite a bit harder to use than in MWO. In MWO you're using a mouse plus have a visual indication of when you can fire, plus you can hold the charge. In Elite, they fire automatically, instantly when charged. So you have to go by the sound they make and practice... plus, at least for myself, I'm using a joystick in Elite. Elite has weak lateral (yaw) control so it makes them even harder on top of that, plus the extreme heat and low amount of ammo. Overall they are a way better balanced weapon system.

The only thing I can think of is he either deployed a SCB right before his shields went down, and they function like that, or he toggled a shield booster on and off again. Whatever it was, it's a neat trick.

Ah, I'm playing Elite with M+KB still so it's not too difficult for me to aim them. You're correct about the way they are balanced though. They need some pretty severe drawbacks for the sheer amount of damage they do. Great for alpha striking shields down before your opponent can spam SCB's, as you demonstrated.

Can't wait to get into an Imperial Courier. Hopefully we'll cross paths, it's cool to see players actually wanting to fight other players. The AI is good, but really it's no substitute.

Guys, they just announced the planetary landing expansion :o

https://community.el...us.com/node/247

EDIT: some info gathered from the official thread on the forums.

The expansion (from now on called season  ), will only be about airless planets. Earhlike planets and planets with an atmosphere will be available in another expansion/season. While it hasn't been yet stated by any dev, it is really likely that this other expansion wil be a different purchase.

New players that buy the expansion, won't need to buy the base game, but will have to wait for the realease of the expansion to play the game (in all it's components). If they want to play it from now, they will need to buy the base game aside from the expansion.

We old players, will have (for a limited time) a loyalty discount of 25% the value of the purchase and a bonus Cobra mk IV (as i've understood, in the like of the bonus cobra mk III for early backers of the base game).

More details will come in the next weeks in the form of news posts, weekly chatters and newsletters.

Been thinking about grabbing the beta access to Horizons. It's going to be a huge change in game play, and a fun one at that. I do hope they put more focus on missions though. They did a great job cranking up the immersion with PP, let's hope they continue along that path. I guess I'm trying to say that I hope Horizons isn't still the same repeatable quests, just to new locations; I wish for more than the same fill-in-the-blank paragraph as a motive. I don't feel this strays from a 'sim' experience either, there's no dictation.

Anyway..
Horizons looks like the bees knees
Going to try to grab the beta
Totally want the Cobra Mk IV
Thoughts?

Edit:

Just stumbled into everything about the Unknown Artifact, what could it be!?

As for Horizons, now I am sure where my game money will divert.
Fortress attack and defense? I am in, that will be epic!

Outfitted my Cobra with just under a million in new modules and set a course for 109 Viginis.

Currently checking every Strong Signal Source for the elusive Federation Convoy carrying the "exceedingly rare" Unknown Artefact in an attempt to be the first pilot to obtain one solo. So far nothing, but every SSS so far has either been a pirate trap via gold canisters, or a 7v7 bounty vs Security Service standoff that quickly escalates into an all out brawl. The gem of the bounty ships is always a Master Anaconda, but with the help of the SS ships, the 100k+ bounty is easily obtainable everytime, in addition to the multiple 10, 20, 30 thousand credit bounty ships.. so juicy. Needless to say the quest for an UA has turned out to be quite lucrative.

What more could a Gangster ask for? I see after acquiring all those shiny new modules, you filled your hold with only the finest of commodities lol. Are you a black market dealer these days? What else did you put in that thing? Let's compare Cobras!

CQC stress test is up for everyone, not just users with access to the beta, and it's incredibly fun. Takes a bit of getting used to how nimble the F63 Condor is but that comes with a few games under your belt.

Bought Hotas-X for CQC. It is hidden in closet, waiting till my wild bunch falls asleep...

Still on the edge should I buy Horizons. Money is not the issue but the principle around their pricing policy...
Although, in my opinion, they deserve money for their work.

Hellllloooooooooooooooo! CQC might get me back into Elite. I want to shoot players, not AI. Damn whiners in Elite, "I am NOT your content!"

I have never seen a worse community online ever. What a bunch of cowards.

But CQC... I have been waiting for this. Yesssssss. Human pilots to shoot at!

I haven't bought Horizons yet because well... so many cowards in Elite that refuse to play Open mode (which is now dead).

I see no point in throwing money at a game that I can only fight AI in.

Well, it depends. If i've got a bounty on me, or i'm traveling with a cargo of 200t of gold, and you (not YOU in particular, but anyone, don't get me wrong) attack me for one of those two reasons, my answer is "come at me, bro!". You can have my bounty/cargo, but you'll have to deserve it!
But if i'm just flying around in a nav beacon or RES shooting some pirates down, or even just hanging there for the sake of flying, and you attack me for no reason whatsoever, just for the sake of trolling an killing anyone else you see online (this has happened to me more than once, and also in a couple occasions, i've been attacked just outside of a station by a bunch of ********), well, there i call shame on you, and get really upset and annoyed.

Seriously, i've shot down many players, but those were always people with bounties on their heads, and consistent ones, i'd never dare to attack those with 500cr of bounty gained for a stray shot at an autority vessel during a concitated fight. I'm all for PvP, i've even engaged in many PvP fights against people harrassing members of my community (a peacefull merchants community).
But attacking people "just because", for me that's not PvP, it's plain griefing.

It isn't so bad, playing the role of psycho. If you let the deer breed too much, pretty soon they'll eat all the vegetation and the forest will die. The wolves serve a purpose.

I've had my doubts about the usefulness of this feature, but it does sound as if CQC makes for a good compromise after all!

And honestly, not wanting to get randomly shot out of the skies solely for your amusement is no more whining than you complaining that people might actually want to opt out of that experience. ;)

They're quite different from one another -- you should probably make it depend on what exactly you are looking for.

Unless you're already doing so, of course!

All but one person (more on that later :P) I've come across in the galaxy has been an upstanding player, and carried on great conversations, both in-game and on the forums. For those I've met while playing, I'm 99% sure they would have shot back had I attacked. Perhaps you should try shooting down an Anaconda. Just find people who don't seem to be in the trade business. Seems likely they'd be the first to try and run (I suppose not o0Cipher0o though lol).

I can't say I've heard of many people playing solo. Never tried it myself, I'm always in open. Seems to be the way of a lot of the player base, serious pilots at least. I feel the issue is the server size/size of the map. Constricting servers caps to 32 players is understandable, but still restrictive. Popular systems still span vast distances, with many stations. A mere 32 (providing the server is full) people can easily bypass each other over and over again without being picked up. Especially mixed in with the NPC targets. I would assume this translates proportionately to a large player based applied to even just inhabited space, let alone the Milky Way.

I too am very excited for CQC though, for essentially the same reasons. A queue for dog-fighting in space against other people sounds fantastic, and I'm very excited. I'm also looking forward to Horizons, snagging it up tomorrow.

My suggestion is Elite. You can have it now (unless you buy horizons, which if you don't already have a copy of ED, you get the base game with it, the catch is you don't get it until Horizons comes out), it's beautiful, mysterious, fun, and eventually be something exceptionally amazing. It is still early though, and a lot of the enjoyment out of the game comes from making your own fun from it. The story is there, but it's not meant to be a focal point, the missions are generic though change to fit specifics, there's Power Play (their CW) which is fun and full of incentives, but a bit of a grind, and there's quite a bit more than that to the game as well. All of which is developing, and getting better, much like a certain other game :). The exploration is quite amazing, though nothing to find out in the void so far. It also has it's mystery, things left to us to figure out, which also shape and effect the main story line. One of the coolest things about ED is that player news articles about in-game events, and player-created minor factions that have picked home systems are actually put into the game. The players may not directly determine things, but they are certainly influential. I could go on and on, unfortunately there isn't a demo to try it out, but if you do decide to pick it up, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

So that one guy..

Shortly after I started playing ED, I was attempting to take off in my Sidewinder from a large station, but every time I was released, someone in an Orca was ready waiting to attack me. Sounds strange right? That's because he would wait for me to respawn, line me up right in front of him, and throttle up. As soon as I'd show up he charge.. BOOM.. and I'd be sent flying to my death. Killed me twice, but then he wasn't there anymore. He probably died as well.. The whole thing was pretty funny, I might have a video of it somewhere..
