I love exploring, it pays some credit and you get to see awesome astral bodies in space. I wanted to head to the Dark Horse nebula but it's like 260light years from me, i dont have a fuel scoop on my ship and i just discovered the Z axis in the galaxy map lol. I think 400billion system is ridiculously/impossibly big. You can visualy see how vast it is on the map on the XY axis but once you try going up(or down) on the Z and up and up and theres just no end and youve not move far from the XY you get mindblown.

Most of the action will probably be confined to colonised space - but from what the devs teased, the frontier is dynamic and humanity will expand as time goes by ... and then there may be other sentient species out there, just waiting to be discovered by some hapless explorer. :)

I like how Braben once gleefully joked about players coming across strange things and telling other people of it, and how they'd mostly be laughed at by the community with accusations of having photoshopping their screenshots etc. He really seemed to enjoy this idea! :P

Btw, looks like something happened at Earth

It looks like a cross between Star Trek's Enterprise and a WW2 Battleship.

Lot's of docking bays. I wonder which one you will be able to dock at to pick up military missions in the future?

The Farragut in action:

Epic lazor pew pew's !

Now that's more like it! When Firey Toad opened up on the FNS Kracer, the Dreadnought kicked his ass in seconds :)

I love that the ship has it's name on the hull.

That Farragut looks amazing. I'm predicting a capital ship battle during this Achenar throne succession thingy... it may well be that we can soon replay the original cinematic trailer. ;)

I've been playing the Combat Trainer. Dusted off my old Cyborg stick.

It takes me back a looong waaayy. (Ex-RL tactical driver, here) You really need a joystick, and you really need stick 'n rudder skills. The yaw keys are essential, as well as energy management.

The game has six full degrees of freedom, auto-assist or not. It's realistic enough for this arthritic old dog. Combat is not just immersive, it is all-consuming.

Staying alive in the starting Sidewinder is going to be tough. Two wimpy guns, and it's basically a A6M (with a tiny cargo hold). You get hit, you die. I'm going to run, not shoot, if I can. That makes trading and exploration my preferred modes. OK with me. Good thing I got an Eagle in the pre-order. Runs lots faster...and the extra gun mount does not suck.

You really are in a near-Newtonian environment, and crashing into the rocks is a real hazard. It's way tougher than an aircraft sim, in my opinion, because the guys with the twitch will rule in combat. They will be using joysticks. It will not be War Thunder's arcade mode, or Planes. Two Words: Run Away. If you can't run, and fight as badly as I do, stick with the infinite respawn Sidewinder. Losing won't hurt as much. Or, pay the insurance, no matter what.
The multiple modes are what make this better than the Tanks/MWO deathmatch. There is grind, but it's all in-game, no external real cash injections needed. You can just buzz around the galaxy VFR, and still have fun. Somebody always wants the data on wierd stuff.

Did I mention to *always* pay the insurance on your ship?

I had to smile that a man named Vargr would love space sims:

2 d6 and the Spinward Marches sourcebook went a very long way in Traveller. My group got the backhanded compliment of "being totally hack and slash, but with style".

This after we were shafted on a mission payment and hi jacked the railgun for launching iron meteorites back to planet for harvesting that was parked on the moon. We then set it on autofire, so much for THAT civilization. Ever robbed a federal reserve of a whole PLANET while that planet was under fire from its own meteorite mines?

Thanks for the memories, Robert V.
We can't "see you guys in the verse" so go get yourself an iron a-ss and see you in that there huge galaxy. "My God, it's full of stars!"(?)

And yes, DO pay the inn sewer ants. Always.

Edit: The Vargr were an alien race of canines ever at war with the Empire and the Zhodani.

Hammer, you did note where I'm posting from, right? The XMail is hideously expensive to Terra. :)

Battlegroup Damocles on a "peacekeeping" mission in the Kotigen system, taking on the System Defence Force in what was supposed to be a limited power struggle between two local factions.

Watching one of these monsters jump into a system never gets old. :)

Hi guys, as i'm thinking of buying the game, there's one queston that id like to be answered.

Is the game heavy to run?

I'm running on a i3 2100 and r7 250, that, according to the site, is a tad lower than the recommended hardware. From what i read here and there, i should be able to get at least a reasonable 30fps with everything on low/off in the graphic settings. Am i right? Or i'll need to upgrade my PC to run the game properly?

An i3 is pretty low end... and I don't know about the 250 but suspect the same thing. I'm running an i5 2500 with a 560Ti and it works just fine with a lot of graphics enabled. You should just look at upgrading in general.

Yeah, i know, but right now i can't. I'm saving for a new mobo+cpu, but i'm months away from my goal. So i was just curious about if i will be able to play in the meantime, maybe not frenetic fights with other ships, but just the quieter trading or exploration flights. I'm going to preorder it anyway, because it still means saving 10 bucks(to be spent for the new hardware :D). Just wondering if i'll be able to take off in the meantime and enjoy the amazing sights the game can offer at a reasonable framerate.

Good luck with the savings. Make sure the local government with the XX chromosomes approves.

Personally I run fine with an old i7 (950 issue) slightly overclocked to 3.31 Ghz for MWO and a GTX 680. But that may already be a bit high end for you.
What I can tell you for certain is that the frame rates are much better and less variable than MWO. By all means buy now to get the 10 dollar savings as well as the extra starting ships (I think?)
