All snark aside, you are commenting as a new player so this would appear to be in the appropriate place, welcome aboard :P and try to take the negativity for what it is worth . . .

I agree sometimes the forums can be depressing, but i generally stay away from those parts of the forums. I mainly stop by here and help the new guys who want it, the guides/mech builds forums and the Fan Creations forums. While I believe PGI/IGP have had some problems I try to remain positive because I want this game to succeed. I know they are fans as well and want to have a game people (including them) want to play. I have been following since closed beta, and there have been marked improvments in many areas, some are still lacking but I still have faith.

Yeh this forum certainly has some emotive players.. ..always funny with the uninstall trolls; its like they think anyone gives a duck. Same for the PGI bashing - pretty sure they just turn on the troll filter and ignore the {Scrap}. lol

Still, when you can filter through all the cow pats and emo make-up sets, some pretty good info floating around from some pretty solid players. Of course it is also legit to voice concerns on the forum too - it is after all the main portal to the mysterious world of the devs..

Hello Folks!

I'm a relatively new player and have stalked the forums a fair bit, getting build ideas or learning about the mechanics of the game, and I've enjoyed every minute of it (except those one shot ac/20 kills in my Jenner!).

All in all I'm pretty dissapointed by alot of the content on these forums, mainly the veteran players that spout their negative opinions and BS on any given thread just to, well who knows. As most people who play online games knows, forums are where about 5% of the playerbase come to have a cry because of >Insert whinge of the day here<. Sorry guys but you. dont. matter. Now usualy I couldn't care less what the sooky trolls carry on about (yes I know PGI promised this and that and screwed you etc etc etc.) but in the new player forum (look at some of the {Scrap} posted in that pointless "Uninstall" thread)? Really? If its that bad, why bother coming here to have a sulk? Noone but the trolls care. Move on.

As far as my experience goes, the negativity from you blokes is the biggest issue for new players.

As far as learning the game is concerned from a new players perspective, sure, it's not perfect, far from it, but it's not hard by any means. Since when do people not search the internet if they're having trouble with a game, or anything for that matter.

There's a guide on here I downloaded that was fantastic! It was out of date but had everything anyone needed to get going and it's all I used. If any new players see this go take a look, Beginners Guide to MW:O, it's stickied in new player help.

I would like to thank all the guys that have helped people out with all the help, crazy graphs and in depth analysis of various mechanics. I've seen so much great info my brain hurts. Some of it even helped me get a few 900+ damage games in my day old CTF-3D today!

So to you helpful chaps, thanks alot. Sooks and trolls, thanks for......wasting peoples time by having to scroll past your drivel. New players, hopefuly you have as much fun as I have but if not, just move on guys, different strokes for different folks and all that.

Flame on

Good points, that being said, I have tried to get some of my friends to play the game and they didn't stick because of the grind needed to get where the "veterans" play. It's not a hard game to get into, it's not a complicated game at all, it's just that playing trial mechs until you can get your first mech and then realize that it's not that great, well, it's got a major downside. Now, I'm not one of the uninstall drama queens, I actually hope that the game makes it past 2015. I just have lost a lot of faith in PGI, both with a shrinking community (NGNG, Comcast etc never having been less active) and seeing the same people over and over paints a stark picture of less and less people playing.

Now, what's the point of pointing out the negatives if one wouldn't propose any remedies? For starters. The simplest solution would be to kill two birds with one stone. That is to get more people to play the game by giving less barriers and to have a way of monetizing it.

If you look at the market, you'll quickly realize that people like starter packs, they're even willing to pay for them. Why not make one for MWO then? Start off with a $10 price, give them 12 mechs (3 of each category, not the best ones, but the least liked ones) a few million C-bills and say 1000MC. Now, they have a sense of starting off with something, even though it's all pretty much hand-me-downs. They have some MC to do some customizing. They have some C-bills to try out various builds and they have the mechs to elite. People would buy that and that would transfer $10 from their pocket to yours. Now, some of them will stick with the game (not all, but hey, %10 of something is better than 100% of nothing) which, would further fund your game if the following conditions are met.

1. Start cranking out content. I get it, CW is a long and complicated process, however, it doesn't require the input of your map design and implementation team. Start cranking out maps, they don't have to be super duper high quality with nifty features like lamp posts that have 1 unique screw on them. We just want more variety.

2. Boredom and the grind are what's killed off half my corp, we can't recruit fast enough to replace the burned out players and most of the other corps have the same problem. Give us something to do dammit! Grinding C-Bills isn't fun. Start with more competitions, make them weekly if you have to. Shouldn't take too much effort, recycle what you've already done and give us real challenges with real prizes. People only participate in these challenges because they participate by default. Let's be honest here, snow globes aren't going to make a huge difference in terms of drawing people back into the game. A unique mech, on the other hand, or a unique paint pattern, now that will. MC? It's all bits of data, you can give it away as much as you want. A simple psychological fact is that once people try something, they either like it or not, if they don't, they are likely to not want to repeat it, if they do, they will be more likely to. Same applies with getting customization items. Once you get your first, you're far more likely to either buy it or not, so give them an incentive to get their first customization, be it a paint or a pattern or whatever. Samples work great for retail, why would you exclude them here? You're already doing it with premium time (to an extent) now do it with everything else. So they pass a challenge for something they WANT, that sink the need to spend a little further into them, they become involved.

3. Keep to your deadlines, and if you can't, give us a real reason. We've KNOW you've not been straightforward with us and we're still here. That's because we REALLY like the IP. Yes, you've ticked us off royally. That's something that you'll have to fix. You can begin by being totally honest with us (This applies to IGP equally if not more, I get the impression they're holding PGI and the IP hostage and demanding ransom for it at this time by having us pay outrageous prices for mechs). The whole deal with the license not being fully settled up till a few weeks ago? Majorly not cool. But then again, you knew it would impact you financially if we learned that the game might close down in 2015 and the $80 PP orders wouldn't come. That was some devious and downright disgusting business practice. Borderline illegal too. But from that you have to extract your lessons. Be honest with your community and be forthcoming. UI2.0 been giving you headaches, let us know, we'll understand. At least, we'll be more understanding that pretending that everything is OK when you're 1 year over the deadline for CW and you pretend that you never made promises.

4. Going back to being bored. Give us new game modes. It's not that hard to code and implement. Yes, they might be buggy, but we already treat this as a beta, let's be frank, it IS a beta, no launched game has this little content and this little functionality. A modern shooter without a proper lobby system? 3 Game modes and a handful of maps? Falling through world objects in Crimson Straights? Game play is quite fun, but somewhat glitch at times. So going back to not having to be perfect, just good enough for people to enjoy themselves, this is what you should be looking at. First you release content, to give us something to do, then you can refine it and polish it, because at this rate, you won't have to release anything else, most of the people who spend money will have left.

Essentially, what I'm trying to say is that MWO NEEDS new players, but it doesn't seem to be getting them. It's not a complicated game, but I would lie if I said that if I didn't like the IP, I would enjoy the initial grind. Of course, a proper tutorial would also be needed (something that was promised and just left forgotten on the back burner, seemingly).

For the record, the only reason I still play is because of my corp mates, I've pretty much got every much I wanted, I've got more Bays than I got mechs and I got over 100 mil c-bills. The ONLY reason I would drop a few games right now is either because my corp mates ask me (which is getting rarer and rarer as we're getting to be really rich ba$tards) or being bored. Neither of which makes me want to spend money on the game.

And in case you tell me that game development isn't free, well, I've also proposed that you monetize your least popular assets, for example, the trebuchet, it's a really rare mech. Include it in the starter pack. At the very least, it will give you some sort of return on your investment (if I recall correctly, it costs about $50,000 to develop and implement a mech) by giving you an opportunity to sell some more of them. Once you have more people playing, then you have more people getting MC which translates into more cash flow which then makes development "easier". Someone also pointed out to me that PGI could simply substitute the starter pack with MC. That would be rather counter productive. The idea is for them to start at the bottom, but not so far as to make it seem pointless to play. That's why they need mechs but not top tier ones, so PGI would need to control which ones they get.

Finally, make use of Steam. It's bigger than Xbox live, it's got the biggest exposure, find a way of making it work. Right now, the only reason I see MWO isn't on it is that IGP doesn't want to share distribution. They're idiots, pure blood idiots, I can't say it enough, the whole company is a joke. It's a parasite. It makes EA look good. They're supposed to distribute the game and the only adds I saw so far are on Facebook and AboveTopSecret (a conspiracy web site) grouped with other free to play masterpieces such as S-L-O-T-S, MW: Tactics, Farmville and Soldier Front. Who the hell is in charge of marketting? Is it a chimp?

You make some very good points. I havnt played a mechwarrior game since MW2:Ghost Bears Legacy. (I saw mechassault and it really wasnt my thing) The last time I saw anything about mechwarrior was a youtube video (the one with the warhammer getting shot to bits by an atlas and the pilot ejects). That got me excited about mechs all over again for awhile, and then I eventually forgot all about it until, a few weeks ago, someone I was talking to on TS said I should try MWO. My first reaction was "Seriously??" I didnt even know there was an MWO in development, let alone released! I have since told people about it and had the same reaction. With effective advertising (or any advertising) this IP would be epic.

I dont know whether it's the ridiculous licensing mess this IP has or what but this should be as big as transformers. I wonder if Michael Bay can breathe some life into it with some ott explosions and Megan Fox in a denim mini.

There was a post in the fan art sub forum with 3d printed mechs. The guy was constructing a 10inch high posable catapult. My god I would buy that for a few hundred in a heart beat, but something went wrong with another model and it all came crashing down.

I get the impression the overarching license for this IP is being held by snotty nosed brats that arnt willing to do anything with it other than stop anyone else from making it successful. Its very dissapointing.

ROFLMAO about OP! Then the "One born every minute" crack, nice! Then continued with all the white knights chiming in! Enjoyed the comment about Russ holding the money back from the game with the pending 2015 contract termination (so true) and now back laughing about how fun this all was!

Being so obviously against what good the game has (and those who bring up said good): I have to wonder...

Why are you still here?
There are thousands of games better than this one, yes.
While it may not be being developed anymore, MWLL is still as strong as it EVER was.
So, why are you spending your time coming here to mock this game and the people who like it?

Only reason I can think of is outright Trolling.

Yeah having a fantastic time, been waiting forever to play and have really been enjoying it as well, only two kills so far!!!!! oooooh the shame! I have always been a slow learner, and I just love the depth of weapons and rigs and they have barely scratched the surface of the universe.

I couldn't agree with the OP more, great post mate. (granted, Im just a sock-puppet on a sock-puppet! ;P)

If you dont like it just leave, if you have constructive criticism put it up, among all the whining on the forums I have found some really great posts.

I have also had almost every one of my questions answered by a vet really quick so nice work folks.

Now where did I put my silver *****.....?

To be frank, the community is divided between old grizzled vets and old embittered vets. Both stay because they love the IP, but one side hasn't sunk to the depths of bitterness yet and still hold a semblance of civility. The other, however, is just too resentful of the IP's treatment to be of any use.

Most of the complaints are legitimate. How they are articulated can be improved though, but relevant nonetheless. At least when it comes to the lack of important features (ie. cw's, ui2.0, dx11, etc) it is more than relevant, however in relation to weapons this and weapons that...mostly drivel, and more of a perspective issue imo.

Either way yes the game is good and playable just needs meaningful content added to keep the interest levels up for those of us who have been here since CB.

Glad you are enjoying MWo OP.

You are the one in a hundred new players, that actively searchs, finds, downloads and reads that amazing guide.
(And if you did so, you know, 80 % of the infos and advices given in these forums is wrong ;-) )

PGI should link the guide and not their sales in the launcher, that would help new players a lot.
Or, they could implement a real and usefull tutorial of their own.
Those devs give always good reason for flaming. It's nearly impossible to talk about mwo without massive criticism.

I wish you a good time in MWO and that you find a nice group to experience the teamplay with.

Hypocrite, much?

Your second post in these forums was to snipe at long-term players and payers, who have been playing this game and investing in it for literally ten times longer than you - many of whom are airing perfectly legitimate concerns.

That just makes you look, shall we say, more than a bit ignorant.

I stand by my posting record of 10 months and >2000 posts in which I've contributed ideas to improve the game, helped new players, leveraged the expertise and experience of other players, praised the developers when their actions warranted it,and also criticised them when it was warranted.

On this last point: the game won't get better, and problems will not get resolved, if everyone sits around circle-jerking about only its positive aspects. Constructive player feedback on concerns should actually help the developers understand how to retain and address their paying customers' concerns.

Airing legitimate concerns? Thats the minority your talking about. Constructive criticism lets say. I wasnt aiming at those players as you would devise yourself once the "I've played longer than you" chip has been removed from your shoulder. I am talking about the people bashing and creating negative spin because they dont like what's happened to the game/been shafted etc.
You're making a fuss about people's playing time as if its some magical essence only obtainable by playing for x amount of time, x allegedly being at least 10 times longer than myself. So I can only air my concerns as a new player when I have been registered for just as long as you are now? That, my friend, is a bit pathetic.
You dont have to play a single second of the game to see what I'm talking about. I've read alot on these forums since I started and I have a good idea about whats going on, youd have to be fairly dense not to. But, once again, constructive criticism is not the problem.

Dismissing/invalidating the opinions of veteran players, telling them ''you. dont. matter'' is pure ignorance.

I recommend you try to find an answer to the question you posed, about why these disenfranchised players continue to post in the forums. Hint: in most cases, it's not because they get their kicks trolling.

I don't necessarily agree with their rationale or logic. But, unlike you, who is so quick to both misunderstand and pass judgement on them, at least I understand what it is they are thinking.
