I hate not using the missile and the ballistic hard points, since that's the entire purpose of the variant. I do wish they'd done one ballistic in each shoulder instead.

First time out with stock Grid Iron and I actually survived for a bit by using my left side as a shield. Ultimately I died to a CT hit so I am not sure if PGI tweaked the Hitboxes or not. I doubt it though since my 4P still loses its right torso even when I get shot from the left. PGI really did not think the design through though since none of the weapons really work together and until hit detection is fixed some for SRMs. A single launcher really does not punch as well as it should. PGI could have really done better with the Hero like maybe a 4SP/IIC style with a PPC in each hunch 3MGs, 1 in each arm and 1 in the head, 16 DHS and 2 tons ammo or something other than 1 long range weapon that hurts but pops when you look at it funny and stick that next to a XL then follow half a 4SP and call it a day.

current version (which kinda worked the couple matches i played- at least breaking 200dmg now and getting kills) std 235 engine, 2LL in arms, 2MG in hunch, ML in head and arty srm 4. runs a bit hot and lose the srms and add another MG and that's pretty much my founder's hunchy. lots of zombie play. but actually lasts a bit longer because people don;t bother shooting off MGs as quickly which keeps the dual LL action up a bit longer.
plus everyone shoots at you cause they hate the Steelers and Boston Bruins. (can't be the bright yellow upper torso standing out everywhere on every map i'm sure)

Only ran it twice so far but one 1 kill and one 4 kill match.

Alternatively, do something similar but at closer range (preferably with AC/5s) and duck behind obstacles or even teammates.
The missile slot is pretty much a lost cause.
As for the arms, just slap on a pair of mlas as backup weapons. I guess you could try putting some LLAS in there and use MGs or something in the ballistic slots, but brawling with a a Hunchie isn't such a great idea. You are bound to lose that Hunch side real quick and then it's bad times all around .
Have you been blowing up a lot?
No oddly that is not at all whats been happening, if anything its been cored to death. By AC20s.. if I had to pick a weapon that hit me and took my engine out I would say AC5s or AC20s... oddly enough.
Ranged with the gauss..is pretty good. I mean it takes time to get decent with it but I hate the sounds.. if they could add a bar or meter vs the green dot and sound..

Keep in mind the HBK's are they worst chassis in MWO plain and simple.
Head hitbox is massive
Hunch's are massive
Arms are Tiny and never intercept any damage.
The HBK like a few other mechs simply need redesigned from the ground up to be effective as any other mech with the same weapons

Depends on who is shooting at me I guess. I seemed to be able to roll the damage fine last night. But again, it was only 8 games played and only got a torso death once. Maybe if I played more I'll get the torso shot off more then I'll switch it.

Was surprised by it
First Build
XL265
AC10 2 tons ammo
2ML
LRM 10 Artimes 2 tons ammo
Tag
Killed 4 between the first 3 matches before I was CT'd
Found 3 other good builds around the XL265 but didn't play with each one enough to get a feel for them.
All in all turned out to be a great buy.
Note to those who are not seeing it-
There are 2 versions of this mech listed in Mechlab.
Grid Iron (no bobble head cheerleader)
Grid Iron Limited Edition (with bobble head cheerleader) (limited time available and bobble head is already mounted in the mech)

heard that about hunchbacks in general, but since builds are far more than the sum of their hardpoints, I'll respectfully disagree.
Things like turn, pitch and their rates, not to mention visibility from the cockpit often are as important, or more than just hardpoints. While I do feel the ShadowHawk is indeed the flagship medium, it hardly obsoletes every other design. I regularly use my 4G for instance, to destroy Shads and other PHX mechs, by using better tactics that allow my much smaller size, much better twist rates and such to overcome firepower differences.

Lol Im just telling you, granted I dont try to be super brawler either. I just shoot and hide. I really have been cored more then anything overall. Sure a couple side pieces but the end result was the center being cored out -
I should also mention I like BIG BOXES... .... yep I said it...

Notice I did not say that the Shadow Hawk obsoletes mediums or even all Hunchbacks; just the Grid Iron. And I think that anyone using good tactics with a Grid Iron could use good tactics piloting a Shadow Hawk with better results.

Very nice ! I am not a fan of the MPLs because of the 180m range as I want some sort of mid-short range option (360 max vs. 540 max) because moving faster at a little longer range I can protect my hunch a little better. Up close it's tons easier to hit what you aim for more often.

and you would be wrong.
Because again, tactics, and strength and weaknesses of pilots are subjective. Not everyone who does well in Mech X, automatically does better in Mech Z, specifically because again, it often comes down to the peripherals. For one persons style and skill set, JJs, and such are huge. Another person gets no use out of them, even when they try. Some find the lack of side visibility in a ShadowHawk no issue, many find it hugely debilitating. Twist capability and rate DO matter for many people.
The problem from your argument (and I can only base mine on what you have posted) is that anything with a human element is never a simple X+Y=Z equation. I have heard those same comments and myopic arguments from the "ProGamer" crowd, and 12Comps ,on this game and others, and they are no more all encompassing now than they were then. There is far more to what makes a specific gamer effective with a specific build than smurfybuild superiority.

Really dude, if your only contribution to a build thread is "Hmm, some other mech can do the job better", why even bother posting? You aren't adding anything useful about the mech in question. Seriously, if you don't have anything relevant to say, don't say anything at all.
Go drive your "one mech to rule them all" and keep the irrelevant noise out of this thread.

for a hunchback pilot, limping around without a hunch and pew pewing with 2 MLaz, I rather be dead.
I still run my GI with XL, although I don't play it as a brawler like the 4G, still getting CT and ST death in a ratio that Im ok with.
