I played this morning after downloading a small patch yesterday. Tried to play again around noon and had a 3.6gig patch. Logged off to go do life stuff only to log on again just now and I have to download a second 3.7gig patch.

Has this happened to everyone or is my launcher broken?

I'm in the process of downloading the 3.7 gb patch right now...
are you saying once (if) I finish, I'll have to download it again if I restart the program later today???

Oh boy... something got messed up somewhere...

No... this occasionally happens by the launcher (part in due to memory/file corruption by the game IMO).

You should be able to close and restart the launcher if it is trying to download a "mega-sized" patch.

When I close and restart, it resumes where it left off... with nearly an hour remaining. Also ran the repair tool. No help. Guess I'll wait and hope it doesn't happen again.

Delete the partially downloaded stuff (an MWOUpdate folder is created somewhere) and see if that helps.

If it doesn't, POWER the machine down... then turn it back on. See if the situation changes.

Closed the launcher, deleted MWOUpdate, restarted launcher and it restarted the 3.7gig patch from the beginning.

Restarted my computer, checked that MWOUpdate was deleted, started launcher, same result.

Same steps here. Fortunately restoring the MWOUpdate folder from my recycle bin seems to have worked and I don't have to start over from the beginning. But I'll be checking this thread periodically for at least another 45 minutes or so.

That's not sounding good.

My guess is that over time, the file corruption is starting to cause some issues.

Like, the game attempts to add the patch files into the respective directories in the pak file and what tends to happen is that some bad compression is going on (like, the file is not properly compressed or compressed in a slightly different format) that causes the game to freak out.. because what I've noticed the the filesizes are different from the server and what the patcher/launcher does to the files. They are inconsistent at best (in most cases, the files on the MWO servers are bigger than what the results of the patched files happen to be.

It may or may not help to delete any/all PAK files and then run the MWO Repair Tool to redownload them all. That may or may not resolve the mega patching that is occurring.

Ran a repair. Repair found only a handful of things wrong (specifically, the files I just began "patching" before cancelling the patch). I removed them with the repair tool. Relaunched. Asked to patch. Joy.

If you abort the 3.7GB patch, then launch the client again, it seems to allow you to play. I had the same problem after patching earlier today.

Was playing fine earlier today. Logged for a while, came back, PATCH TYME. Ran the tool, still asked to patch.

I'm a little frustrated. I've only got 24 hours of premium time left and I was -really- looking forward to getting some playtime in tonight. Looks like that ain't happening.

7gb in one day is a bit much. Is this going to happen every time I restart the game?

DOH, burning premium time on a bogus patch here too. I let it run through full once and then It wanted to patch again after MWO closed out on me when I opened up my browser. So some of the guys I know said that I should uninstall the game and then reinstall it. That didn't fix it either.

I am having the same issue. Started the client and it asked me to download a 3.7GB file.

Same thing for me. Completed the first 3.7G patch, then didn't have time to play. Asked to patch again when I logged in later. I decided it'd been a long time since I reinstalled so I went ahead and uninstalled. We'll see how that goes.

Edit: I reinstalled. Played one match. It crashed upon return to the mechlab. Then asks for the large patch again. Very frustrating. 8gbs and hours downloading for one match today

Yup, it keeps happening to me every time I close the game and reopen it. I hope this gets fixed soon because I don't want to have to download 4gigs every time I want to play.

Sounds like a PGI Internets/DNS problem or something.

Not sure what I can suggest to fix that outside of hoping it eventually works.
