Since he never said anything about intentionally misleading people, rather that PGI misleads people in general, I fail to see how it's tinfoil hat worthy since it's quite true, Malice or intent aside.

Misleading people might indicate a sign of "leadership", which might not fit how many people see PGI?

Ahem. Now to something completely different:

Even if they had the authorization by Shimmering Sword or acquire it - Why use mechs that are not even in the game? Why use artwork that is not from the game?

I mean, I could get it instead of using mech **** from someone else, they'd use half-naked improptu cooling vest wearing female pilots in their ads, but what is wrong with the mechs in game? (Except the HBK 4G remodel, of course)?

I think this is fake. Looks too crappy to be a MWO add. The MWO art is better looking in the world of Battletech. SS is a good artist, but I like Alex's designs more.

So sad people have to resort to petty things like this because they are mad PGI isn't giving them their way.

Do you know how much money ad space on gamespot costs ?
Do you really think someone would drop hundreds of dollars to make PGI look bad while also risking being sued by the artist and/or PGI/IGP ?

Sounds like a great financial plan... if you like financial suicide.

Given who posted this and who are responding to the thread with the same hate I've seen the past few months, not really in denial.

Just smh at you

I hate to break it to everyone here, but the only post in this thread that matters is this one:

Yeah I was a bit disappointed, though also amused, to see them goof up like this.

I've already sent them first contact, we'll see what happens.

All the rest of us are just making noise.

SS, hope you get some info on how this all went down. Though it can be surreal to see something you made where you didn't expect it, that doesn't make up for the suckitude of having your work used without permission, credit, or remuneration.

Do you know how easy it is to photoshop an add in a screenshot?

Very true, but the point stands. I don't think anyone has ever faulted PGI for the artwork. It's pretty much the only thing going for them.

By the way, the idea that this is not from PGI but from a disgruntled fan seems extremely unlikely - quite simple because if you were an angry fan, would you really just put some picture that you don't have the rights to (nor IGP/PGI) on the add and announce "Free To Play" or something like that.

If I was that crazy and angry with PGI, I would probably put a screenshot of the game or concept art from the game and write something libelous or nasty on it, like "Pay To WIn*" on it or "Don't Buy from PGI" or "PGI eats babies" on it or "Get your Money Stolen For Free" on it.

Do you think IGP would risk getting sued by the artist? And we still haven't seen any proof that this is real. I've search mechwarrior on google for a bit and have yet to get this ad. Since it's google ads I'm pretty sure I would have got it by now and since it's google ads, they don't pay for ad.space. *facepalm

Have you considered maybe someone realized the mistake had the ads pulled?

Willful ignorance or not, getting sued happens when you don't do the research. The thing is, it isn't very difficult to do a photoshop job on the source and then add "Play For Free" on it. Really, it's not.

It's the stuff people can easily get fired over.

If that's true then the links in the OP wouldn't work but they still do hmmm...

Every post you make, makes it seem even more fake and you're in on it. Haha

Wow, and they say I wear a tinfoil hat. Lemme guess, you live in a faraday cage twenty feet underground and filter your own urine because aliens are poisoning the watering holes.

Well, I told Chrome (and Firefox previously) to use that new Do Not Track feature... but I still get spammed with other MMOs not named MWO. So... it's just my awful luck™.
