Is it possible to do 6 SL on the 1E without having extra weight left over? I don't really like mixed armaments with big range differences on the LCT as far as lasers are concerned (I am one of those alpha strike button mashers). Tho, SL and SPL are the same and you can prob use mods to buff up the one not covered by quirks.

I love MLs, too bad only the missile variants with 1-2 energy hardpoints get the ML buffs.

Any word on how these bonuses will stack with modules?

I am thinking 2 mpl 4 sl on my 1e and if I like that I will get the m with 5spl :). The more locusts the better.

Iraqi, I wish to thank you for making this thread. I had been thinking of grabbing a Locust for a few months and a few weeks ago I stumbled on this thread. Your explanations and fittings convinced me and I've had a great deal of fun in them. Had an awesome 3S game today that was linked in a different thread on the Locust or I'd share it here.

I'm pretty iffy about the 1V's LL perks as well, but the 3M's perks coincide perfectly with what I am already doing, so no, I won't say I wish they switched them and the 1E's quirks around.

More i think about 1v bonuses - more i like them. Because that makes er.ll an dps analog of 3 m.lasers (with more range, same or less duration and less alpha). So mech tactic is "peek and shoot" - whack a mole locust style (from different places and/or when hostiles are distracted and not waiting for you to pop up in their crosshairs - so they'll waste ammo and effort if they choose to shoot you) until theres an opening - then dart in and do usual locust stuff (with 2-3 mg's and said large laser - thats a lot of potential sustained damage from such small frame). Only problem i see - laser is not very high up on your torso, is it?

No., it's not.
And to fit in those 2-3 MGs plus ammo, will cost you most of your armour.

With sacrificing speed and armour (XL170 and around 90 something points) you get 1ERLL, 2MGs and 1/2t of ammo.

Well, they have 2 levels of quirking it. They have energy quirks, and then they have SL quirks on it as well. Meaning that SPLs are still gonna be good on it. Maximum use of it's quirks will be achieved with SLs, though.

I'm personally gonna stick with the SPLs on both. They just made the SPL builds great on both the 3M and 1E. The 3M will use it's SPLs better than the 1E though, but that's it.

So if I understand this correctly.

1E has energy +30% range as well as SL +30%. If you have a level 5 mod I think that adds 20m to max range.

So, a small laser would have a max range of 200m +60m +60m +20m = 340m. You will still have to get in pretty close for your lasers to be significantly damaging but that's a bit more flexibilty there. (THere's also a less energy heat gen for both energy in general as well as SLs, but 6 SLs aren't too hot anyway)

3M has similar range bonuses for SPL and general energy. As well as a cooldown bonus. I think this seems the most attractive. You can shred an assaults backside pretty quickly with this.

I think I will probably still run the 1E with 6 MLs, still will get the 30% range and 10% less heat gen. 5xSPL on the 3M looks very attractive though. Lotsa people already love it. GUess I'll have to wait till the quirks are implemented.

I run my 1E with 6 SPLs and imo its moments like these that make piloting Locusts EPIC!

Actually tackled a ML boating Cicada by myself in my reliable old Locust 3M the other day. Dueled him from a disadvantage (my leg armor had already been stripped and he was all but fresh) and won. Kind of wish there was a duel option for 1v1 combat. I really like it and nobody wants to actually engage in zellbrigen. Or some Solaris-style free-for-all mode.

I play every mode currently in existence, and would really like more of them for variety's sake. A lot of the time the not-Skirmish modes kind of just devolve into Skirmish anyway, which sort of seems to defeat the purpose of having them to me. So, I ask myself, why do we not have the free-for-all mode common to online gaming since time immemorial given that there are several canon examples of it such as the Grand Melee of the Clans or the games of Solaris VII? Another thing I'd love to see would be a more base assault-ish Assault mode involving the actual destruction of objective buildings and the like.

/random rant.

Mediums usually scare me, and I totally thought I was going to lose, but we'd already lost the match and I wanted to die fighting. Winning that part of the battle was a pleasant surprise.

I dont think it would - pretty much same armor i run now on 3m, but less speed, 3mg's 1ton of ammo. Or i'm missing something?

with 2 mgs and 1 ton of ammo - can get ferro-fibro plus 180 engine and a bit more armor.

Anyways - seems like both small lasers and small pulse lasers get a boost (from latest post of Russ). On the other hand all pulses get a boost, so thats bad news.

Personally I'll stick with 5 or 6 mediums on the 1E. Might try the smalls, but I have a feeling I won't like it. Having the range just ... feels good.

I broke down and bought TDK yesterday. I promised myself I would if it went half-off. I'm running it slow, but powerful, with 4 MPL that can seriously mess people up. With an alpha a full 7 points higher than that of my Locust 3M, the thing is horribly dangerous to get shot by, but I haven't found the sweet spot between speed and power just yet. I feel like I go too slow after driving my Locust for so long. Maybe I'll swap one of the lasers for TAG and upgrade the engine slightly for an end result that still hits harder than my Locust, is still slower, and still has more armor. Hm. Not much change there, in theory. Might need to try it anyway just to see if faster is fast enough.

I'm semi tempted by the TDK.
Not sure if it'd suit me, though maybe just because it's a decent light?

I wonder how 2MPL + 2SPL would do?
Also, what quirks is it getting?

(Interested in seeing how the quirks affect my Locusts tbh, especially after watching ngng's teaser trailers.
I might want a Centurion D and new pants)

Sorry about my team, Tarogato. You probably would have won had we actually managed to duel, since I was in my Thunderbolt and neither it nor I am particularly good as a heavy.

edit: Went ahead and bought a preorder, so maybe we can do a private match sometime now that I should get some premium banked.
