Tried to theory craft a fast "survivable" AC2 locust between 150-170kph but that dam 10 heat sinks needed rubbish comes up again, still wish it wasnt needed for the locust, I could thing of many perfectly heat stable builds that dont need the max those 3-4 extra heatsinks on a 20 ton mech.

This is the best I could do. I don't have a 170XL but I might try to squeeze my 180XL in (LCT-1V) and see how that goes.

I thought about doing exactly that but only 2 tons of ammo and no backup lasers just seems useless to me, and going slower with the armor of a locust is = death.

I guess it just wont work with anything other than machine guns on the 1V... as going 150khp or slower just means the 35ton mechs will outclass you. quick example here of same speed but more armor and a JJ on a ember http://mwo.smurfy-ne...6fba60a1502c2d0

Just seems the 1V will always be "laser + 4mg mech" which is kinda boring to me as the 5k spider can do it with more armor and JJ anyway.

Still perfectly happy with my three other locust variants in my mechbay tho.

EDIT

In other news to all the locust lovers out there I am thinking of buying my 5th and final Locust the 1E but since it is so similar to the 3M I am thinking of making a "fun" build http://mwo.smurfy-ne...d004acf252c873b only gonna cost my 3.4ish mil as I already have the engine.

Genius or have I gone too far off the dark side with this idea?

For now, there is no real reason to pick the locust over other lights. Honestly, it and the flea will never work very well in this game, until weight limits are applied. They they will shine, as that 15 ton difference between a LCT-1E and JR7-F will decide whether you bring an awesome or an Atlas in your team.

OK the 6 flamer locust is by far either the best thing I have seen or the worst? Either way it is glorious!!!

You can also bump the head armour up to 8.
But agreed, it's amazing.

You could even make it vaguely more practical by putting a pair of Medium Lasers on instead of 2 of the flamers. :D

had a few hilarious kills so far, were all H/A in size, just need to speed tweak it to 170kph now

I have just finished mastering my Locust 3M so I didn't feel like trying out the flamer build but I'm still working on the 21,500xp to master the 1V and 3S, so I popped a single flamer on my Phoenix Locust to give it a go and use up my 'first win of the day double XP', and was shocked that it seemed to work very well.

I ended up with 1 kill and 7 assists with about 170 damage, and basically just ran around shooting the flamer into a mech's face while unloading the MGs and circling the enemies.

I used 2 run a 2SRM4+2ML build but I sold it recently. The problems I had where not from engaging the enemy and doing well but from the fact that even the tiniest pebble or smallest drop or even grazing a building would strip my leg armour stupidly. And when you sometimes have to drop to survive only to leg yourself it soon becomes tiring.

there is plenty of reason to pick it unless you just follow the META thinking of the game. There much fun to be had using them except most players just don't seem to want to put in the time to learn it or it doesn't do enough meta pew pew and therefore is useless.

Most of the fun I have in this game is trying the weird and unusual builds that most other would never try because again....its not a META build.

with the 1V AC2, if you want 2 tons + a SL you are pretty much stuck with a XL125 and you'd get eaten alive by everything..hell I have a kintaro that can move faster than it can. can go with lower armor and get a 145, speedtweaked is 130 but...still think you'd be too slow.

LCT-1V <- you could bump it to a medium.
You're screwed either way if anyone puts fire at you, so a little less armour won't hurt at this point. :D
Each part can still take an AC20 and live, so that's sort of enough...

Also - flamers / machineguns are surprisingly good, especially once armour is stripped and in multiples.

Want to run a 4-6 flamer locust at some point, but really need doubles first....

i think i would just ditch the head armor and add more else where. I've never been killed by a head shot so I always run without head armor.

I have once by an ac40 jag, but the head hotbox is so incredibly small on a locust I have always done fine with like 5 points of armor there on all my locusts for the random lrms and strike fire, but if you are getting hit all the time from them you are doing the locust wrong. Just don't stand in bottlenecks and haul ass when you see smoke. As for lrms just use your speed and pull fast 360 turns right before they are going to hit if you are out in the open.

Bah, why bother with an AC2 Locust when you can rock with an AC5 Locust?

The funny thing with the 1V is that while I've always thought of it as the weakest locust, looking over my stats I've found that 15 of my 32 locust kills have been in the 1V (9 kills for the LCT-3M and 8 kills for the LCT-3S).

With a single AC5 you don't need DHS (for a single AC/2 either)

Which lets you have FF - which lets you put a bit more armor on.

Already got a "usable" AC5 Spider to fill that role. http://mwo.smurfy-ne...a09e51aa5422ee3

I am tempted to still build my 1V into an AC2 mech tho, but 2 tons of ammo dosnt seem like it will get me anywhere with a decent engine.
I tried this http://mwo.smurfy-ne...35c90ba9b32e167 speed and 2 tons of ammo are fun and fine, but the armor is just pathetic, I guess its pointless to try...

Putting an AC5 in a locust isn't because you should, it's to prove you can. Kind of like the AC40 Blackjack.

The troll is strong with this one.

I would love to see this mech in action. Probably explodes as soon as your light those 6 flamers up. Might wanna team up with Koniving for this.
