And the stock 1M is awful. Feels like paper compared to the old balsawood & kevlar 1V.

I really did try to use small pulse lasers well but the range just sucks.

Stock 1m really is bad, why not try running it non stock, but just with improvements like this http://mwo.smurfy-ne...71a28d08979ee9d
I run my 1M as a zombie, 2ml in the CT, 190 standard engine, 4 standard heat sinks all in the feet for water cooling pretty funny build if you are bored, furthermore the 12 srm locust is hilarious http://mwo.smurfy-ne...8ef345ad40acc60

Finally getting into the swing of the 1V and using it as a vicious attack dog that jumps on a damaged mech and fills open internals with MG bullets.
I've used the 3M for a while with great success as a small pulse laser ninja, just stabbing people's rear armor away to nothing in a shot or two and making them turn to chase me, only to get shot through their now-absent rear armor by the person they were fighting when I attacked them in the first place.
It's crazy how different different locust variants play, but the one thing they all seem to share is go fast or die faster.

Now that clan mechs are out with their stream mode lrms the 3M with its dual ams shines even more, using mine with a tag as well to be even more of a useful support mech.

Exactly why I have all 5 of them, each has their own unique build.

2x 4s or 4x 2s is not enough ammo to go around for me (2 tons).
Dual 4s I was running out of ammo WAY to fast, running out and then not being very useful.
so far I think srm2 + srm4 + 3 tons ammo + 170xl + 2 SL is the way to do. having good around (now) with it today. 300+ damages, components and kills.
dual 2s isn't too bad either because you can carry TONS of ammo or use extra weight for 2ML or you could go 2 tons + an extra DHS

2 tons is the minimum ammo I will carry for any weapon except AMS and MGs

You know what? As soon as I get my hands on the Adder, I plan on doing so.
I've already found several set ups that are extremely good for the Adder.
The fixed flamer seems like a curse, at first. However, if you are running an escort/satellite role. It is a thing of beauty. One of my lancemates runs the adder with an SRM/SSRM mix. So he sticks close to our team, and once the brawl starts, he uses the flamer to devastating effect against focused targets. The visual blinding effect alone is good enough. The heat penalty got him a kill on daishi that fired 4+ ERLLs in one shot.

I've been enjoying 2 SRM2s. Same with the streak set up. 2 SSRM2s and BAP.

How does a lone and slow light mech keep four heavies/assaults busy for almost 2 minutes while his team comes to the rescue?
The answer?
Flamer.
Especially with how hot clan mechs run
Between that liiittle bit of heat and the blinding - it is almost as awesome as the Locust

Not really - 4 flamers on chainfire?
Alright - and kinda sidesteps heat retention (kinda - ask Koniving for more details on that)
More than that though - and you have more than you can cycle though (If I remember right)
One flamer used very carefully?
Sometimes useful - most of the time not.
It's biggest asset is the blinding effect.
Flamer is still not a weapon to go out of your way to use - but there have been several times I have been grateful to have it on my Adders.

My 3M Lil Brella the support mech, Endo and DHS
My 3S Splatcust, Endo and DHS
My Phoenix 1V Locust, Endo and DHS oh and a lump of coal in the cockpit.
Edit:
Ok I am now poor (So much for saving for clans over the last few weeks)
But I have added a 6th Locust to my mechbay
The Thundercrack 1E Locust 1.55 on the heat management scale, Endo, FF and DHS
Gotta say bravo to the modeling team for this one.

LRMCust is a fun one though.
I can't stand using SHS either...they just leave you stranded too often
