Well I aint a meta player so I will just continue having Fun with my 6 flamer locust and my srm2 locust and my 2ml zombie locust and my AC20 raven and my lrm20 raven and whatever other unconventional builds I have.

The meta players can continue to only play jagers and poptartin mechs all day long but that is boring as hell.

So back on topic does anyone think we will get any more locust variants in the future?
Or these
http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Locust_IIC
http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Koto

If they kept the same size and profile they could be interesting

I think the IlC would be a great hero mech for locusts. We don't have hero mechs for any of the phoenix mechs, the saber mechs, or the spider. So I will be looking forward to seeing an IlC variant made into a hero mech.

I love my Commandos. Especially the 2D, now that I finally broke down and replaced the engine with something better. I was thinking of trying to save c-bills for a clan mech (especially the Timber Wolf, my long-time favorite) in a few months when they go F2P, but I might give the locust a go since they're fairly cheap and go VERY fast. It's interesting how much my taste in mechs have changed since I first started this game, let alone since MW4, or even further back, MW2.

Something else that might not have been addressed is, I feel like driving my slow, weak, lights has made me a much better heavy pilot, oddly enough. Evasion without speed is tricky, but practicing it has made me a much better pilot. I won't say "good" necessarily, but better than I was.

If you are interested in driving a fast light for practice why not try my zombie locust build http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=152&l=da2977338842d6da625a49ed92521b02e0ed2150 will only cost you about 2.7mil if you sell the stock engine. Goes 153.9kph and it will force you to choose when to hide and sneak and when to attack as it only has 2 ML

Stats in mine with only 2 ML the entire time is 12 kills and only 16 deaths aka 0.75 kdr so I consider that great as it was built as a fast distraction zombie going 170kph speed tweaked

Edit: updated build

Another good one from the 3M (190XL, 1 ERLL, 3 SL)

I was the last one alive against 4 i think and we won by me getting into our final cap zone to stop their stalker from neutralizing, whenwe had like 10 points to go. We played the collector ring around the rosie. Love rounds like these, I swear my adrenaline is pumping hardcore during them.

had a good one from the 3M last week- 2 kills 9 assists 450ish dmg, only using 3ML (no arty/airstrike) since any sort of overheating = death in a locust and with 3ML you can fire non stop and not have to worry about it.

can't remember if i have ferro or not
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...d00c00ecfa7ddcf

weapon groupings were
1: 3 SL
2: ERLL

I swap group one between chain/not chained depending on what is going on but most of the time it is un-chained

Finally picked up a 3M a couple days ago. Put 5 SPLasers on it, 190XL, the works. Kind of expensive when you count all the stuff you can put on it to make it better, but pretty fun too. Still getting used to both how fast and fragile it is. It is a lot of fun though on any map where I don't round a corner at 150kkph and have my everything insta-shot off by a dual-gauss jager. And actually even that's kind of fun, because you know that dude had to practice to hit a target moving like that.

It should improve insanely if you elite it out so it has 2 times basics and speed tweak for 170kph, but that requires another 2 locusts and some time.

and once you get tweak on them you can drop down to like a 170XL and get like another .5 or 1 ton to play with (can't remember)

only thing with the 170 is though you sometimes end up having to remove ferro if you have it on to get enough out of it.

yea some people are just awesome shots, I've lost a arm a few times from gauss with while running perpendicular from the shooter at like 900m with 190xl and tweak.

thats a pretty tough shot over unever terrain.

I want to see locust stats posted because frankly, I am not convinced. Especially when I see a Locust guide that combines "Locust", and "get close" on the same paragraph. As far as I can tell the only two "good" Locusts, relatively speaking, are the 3M and the 1E, the rest of them are essentially unworkable. Even then, you have to play them as ER Large kites because they cant take any hits at all.

This is the best I have ever been able to squeeze from a Locust but I have negative KDRs/WL in all the others due to their extreme badness.

stats aren't everything...I don't even look at them, point being I think we have a lot of fun playing the game using the locusts and have good games with them.

I've had many good rounds in the missile version with 2 ssrms and MLs.

i think too many of the people here just look at the game from the group/team standpoint and just don't look at the fact that many of us just play the PUG rounds. Really, people here need to step back sometimes and just look at this as a fun game which you can have fun playing with random folks picking mechs and building loadouts and NOT using the norm/meta/dakka/elite build.

K/D isn't really the greatest measure of a pilot, especially a light, and triply a locust.

This really isn't a mech for those that give a flying crap about KDR.

However it is a fun mech, and excels in certain roles / modes.
Especially Conquest.

Now, I'm not an especially good pilot (better at theory and tactics than I am playing yet, need my skill/experience to catch up with my brain), nor have I been playing especially long, and locusts statwise are worse than average regardless.
Posted Image
But I'm pretty happy with the W/L Ratio on my locusts overall.
And I rarely come away with less than 5 assists in a Locust, if not more. (Pretty sure I got my 12-assists-in-one-game achievement in a locust too, just can't remember which one)

The trick with the ones that need to move in close-ish (such as the 1V and its MGs), is to make 'strafing runs'.

You don't circle, you don't even really engage.
You run past them, put fire into them as you go past and then dissapear again, making large loops, but never staying still or near enough to take return fire, apart from the pass where you're hitting them.

And don't really come in at them straight, always at an angle.

In Conquest, you use your speed and size to move from cap to cap, hiding completely under the cap point for protection.
Occasionally make a pass at the enemy, but generally only as a distraction - your task is to take points.

That or you could do something nuts and mount an ERPPC, Large Laser / Large Pulse or AC2/5 on there for giggles.

My friend, you need to try the 1V.

As for the getting close part. Well, here's something simple. Hitting a target that is moving at 120+kph at 900 meters, is about 4 times easier than doing it at 200 meters. When that target is only on screen for about 0.7 seconds.

The Locust is not an easy mech to use, not by a long shot, however, once you learn how to use it, develop some serious awareness of your surroundings, and possibly some suicidal tendencies, you will love the beast, and start doing crazy feats in it.

My best game in a 3M is 3 kills, 9 assits, and about 600 damage, best in my 1V is about 6 kills, 4 assists, and 400 damage.

Khajja on the other hand, is a far better light mech pilot than I am, and he has posted a screen cap in this thread of his 3M breaking 900 damage, and I know for a fact that he now does about 500-700 damage with the 3M.

Many people will say, and I agree, if you want stat padding, this isn't the mech for it. If you want to learn how to be a better pilot in general, and an excellent light pilot in particular, this is the mech to use for advanced courses.

Also, don't use them as an LPL or LL platform without first trying them in a proper set up.

I cant post it as im on a phone, but I have a 2 ssrm2 bap 1small laser locust that goes 160 kph that constantly hugs and it does 400s all the time, and my 3m does well too.

The er LL approach works but you leave yourself open to return fire. Playing close and fast means it is harder for the bigger slower mechs to hit you.

It's risky but some times it pays off, I once circled a lone thunderbolt that had yellow/orange armor and I just constantly out maneuvered it until I killed it with my streaks and my one small laser.

But then there are the other unlucky times where you take an ac20 to the face.
