On the topic of a hero Locust I mocked up this in MS Paint via Smurfy

And of course it is the max engine so you could always drop the engine to a 170-180xl engine for more firepower or armor if you wished to.

Well thats my idea for a hero locust anyway, and it is different to the other FIVE locust variants we already have.

I say make it symetrical, maybe with 3E, but it definately wants a CT energy slot.

I say a Ballistic and energy in each arm, a missile in each ST, 1-2 energy in the CT.
AMS optional.

Load it with 4 small lasers, 2 MG +1T, 2 Streaks +1T, job done.

Thats 8 tons of weapons.

I know 7 tons works with the erppc locust so I tried to fit weapons and ammo into 7 tons free, it is only a 20 ton mech after all and always requires external heatsinks.

i NEEDS max armor though... anything but max (except the head) is just a necessity.

needs the XL170 to get that 7+ tons with max armor.

this is what I would start with

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...7bf5fcc2b31289a

XL170, 4 DHS, Endo, armor as such

OR XL180, 3 DHS, Endo, Ferro, Armor as such

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...7eba68ac7a94b9f

have just enough slots for
2 ML (2 tons)
2 MG (1 ton)
2 SRM2 (2 ton)
1 ton SRM ammo (1 ton)
1 ton MG ammo (1 ton)

I;d go with the XL180 setup.

weapon loadout is definitely good as is melds all the other variants together.

maybe could spiff it with an SRM4!

Would buy it day 1!!!

That would be debatable, absolute highest single armor value is 24 (CT) if you throw it all on one side that still only gives it a 36 health value.

With the popular alpha range being 30-35 you will not survive an alpha-strike even with max armor.
I have found something around this for armor to be the most effective
(you can take some off the head and put it somewhere else - or all off, as noted, the head is tiny and you are a tricky target)

I usually lose 1 arm and a leg before dying.

Edit: the presence of ferro is because I was modifying Tesunie's build to show the armor values of my others, on account of Tesunie's being the only one saved on smurfy right now

I could see that working perfectly fine with a 180xl for 160kph

Honestly I dont know really what else they can do for a hero mech for the locust for whenever we get one.

We already have machine guns covered, missiles are covered, so is 6 energy hardpoints, and we already have a 2ams mech. Thats why I think having all 3 weapon types is a nice idea as jumpjets and ecm as new equipment on a hero is out of the question.

you'd be amazed at how much punishment I seem to take and keep on going. if I took anything less than max, it would never happen. Almost never lose an arm but 6 armor will make sure that happens a lot. I don't think it is really debatable. You need it and you need all of it as the lightest mech there is.

Actually I wouldn't.
You might be though.

I love my Locusts - and while you lose the arms a lot - since most people aim for that 30-35 point pinpoint alpha - cutting the armor in half on the arm means little for harassing the bigger mechs, and if you are fighting the smaller mechs you are very nearly toast anyways.

It took me a while to accept it - but more armor does almost nothing for the Locust.

There is no reason to pilot a Locust. Unless, you are playing in a private league that has ton limits on the drops. Piloting the Locust is like picking the fat, nonathletic kid first for your team. What are you going to do in that Locust that you cant do better in a Jenner or Spider?

The Locust is a troll mech. You only use it when you place something else ahead of winning and helping your team.

Oh there are plenty of reasons, aside from tonnage restrictions. For instance, if in my Locust I outperform jenners and firestarters. You laugh at the idea, but for some pilots, this mech is better. There is nothing bad about the locust. The real problem is finding a pilot that knows how to work it. Just like the Dragon. Without a pilot that knows how the mech SHOULD be piloted, it's not going to perform well.

2 SSRM +1T Ammo = 4 Tons
8 Tons
Represented here by 4 Medium Pulse Lasers.
LCT-1E
So it's entirely doable. B)

Alternatively, I'd like to see it get a Head Energy port.

Head E + 2 CT E, 1 RT M, 1 LT M, 1 RA B, 1 LA B.

Missing a DHS...

7.6x tons is really the max unless you start shaving off armor.

So i'm trying to master the 1v to get it out of the way...so for giggles today I went with

170XL, 4 DHS, endo, ferro, 1 SL, AC2, 1-1/2 tons of ammo....did have to remove all the left arm and head armor + 1 other point to do it.

completely useless and silly...but this is kinda stuff that makes this game enjoyable to me.

the round I played I ended up surviving, did like 136 points of damage and that was WHILE playing with some HORRIBLE jumping ping and packet loss...I mean warping around, watch my SL not do anything most of the time...crazy.

I really really did try to get a usable AC2 on my phoenix locust but before the nerfs at least I have learnt from my raven and spider that to be useful and fire all battle long that 3tons of ammo is a must so that means 9 tons of AC2+ammo and that just aint gonna work for a locust at any "Decent" speed.

I did post a build somewhere back in this thread tho. Disappointing I could never get it to work.

I really wish there was something inbetween the .5ton mg and the 6 ton AC2

The locust is VERY good at stopping and accelelating, among other things. hardest thing on this planet to gt off your back. After i played a locust for a while, the firestarted seemed super slow, even with a much higher top speed (std engine in locust, the mech only cost 1.7 m okay)

yeah, i decided to clean up my screen shots today, a lot of 700-930 damage screen shots (and actually my highest dmg screen shot) was in....the trial dragon

I bought the "worse" Hero Dragon (always get the names mixed up) just to have that build with a Cbill-boost
(bought it on sale, but still bought it )

LCT-1V

How's this?
People said, the 1V is worse than the Spider 5V, which I took as one of the most useless mech's in game (why 5V when you can go with 5K?). Ok 5V has JJ but this LCT should be a hell for light's legs and the BAP should make it worth for some scout jobs, or not?
