I just picked up the mastery pack so I am working through basics on the x-5, 3m, and 2a right now. I am apparently a slow learner :) I have realized that stopping immediately when you let off the throttle is a locust trait the cicada does not share ;) I think I am imprint though so I will keep trying.

Joystick or keyboard controls? If keyboard you can press X to stop i think (if you have not remapped it) worked for me.

Now if you have the Locust, Spider, Cicada, does that make you the Bug Master???

Not sure about that, but I am fairly certain it means I need to buy the Grasshoppers when they come out for c-bills :)

Yeah, you are right. . . but locusts are soooo responsive it spoils you ;) (See that, locusts, I kept my post on topic). I mastered spiders, then commandos, then locusts. . . ever since then big mechs just feel strange to me, so I think I am just readjusting.

Well, i just dug my Cicada C out of the garage.
Ill give MG another try.

But on my quest for Meta i gotta get good with ERPPC(aim at range)
I specifically bought a 4th Cicada (the 3C) in this sale, because I love MG lights, but don't get on with Cicadas very well, hoping it'll help transition me in.

This might help with the ERPPC training:CDA-3M

This one is for MGs
CDA-3C
CDA-3M works out a bit better.
You don't need all that armour on the arms and head, and can bump up the speed.

As for the 3C... you forgot the ammo... this works better:
CDA-3C

And is interchangable with the ERPPC CDA-3C, which I want to try out due to the silly, silly perks, even though I suck with PPCs.

Been really busy. Not as much time to play since the holidays have ended. But, it makes me happy to see so much awesome activity in one of my favorite MWO forum threads.

I wish the Locust 3M was on sale. I want one for my garage.

I try to play mine like a Locust, a bigger slower one, but maybe im more conservative in play?

I dont scout and usually just wait(unless im in the C...which is snipe city) until the lines form or, should my Pug decide to push i escort the fat guys. You get those 'protected' bonuses and stuff.

If enemy murderball is too 'tight' ill flank around and try to backstab a slow assault - high risk high reward.
If my Pug is getting walked down(did this last night on the swamp and got 2 of my teams 4 kills) you and kinda come from behind and join thier mad push for kill steals. Killed a Highlander and a Battlemaster. The slow guys will be in the back and the fast guys will be feasting on the dying or spread out looking for you/whoever is left.
You will be surprised just how many times you can shoot an enemy standing right next to his teammate. Big lols, Such skill. Many fails. Great times.

Late match if the enemy is beat up enough i will get very aggro.

I am contemplating the X5 for the Cbill bonus. Or a Pirates Bane...yar.

Just save up the c-bills, it's still only a 20 ton mech and cheap either way ;)

Seriously, this is spot on.

I've found that if you think of a Cicada as a moderately bigger and slower Locust, that can take a hit and survive, but play it close to the same way you play your Locusts, you can do pretty well in Cicadas.

I think of all the mediums, it's the one that translates the best to and from Locust piloting.

The PB is pretty freaking sweet. If you can scrounge enough MC from tournament or little paypal bits leftover from other things, it's totally worth it.

In my opinion, the Piratesbane is well worth it and the better option.

I own both, but if I had to choose it'd be the Piratesbane.
Which, while in a lot of ways is less versatile, and in others is really versatile, is far more fun.

The X-5 I really want to like, and I have done well in it, but something just feels... slightly off to me.
Maybe I'll find more of a niche for it later that clicks, but for now~
If it drops to half price, sure, but not at full value.

I will +1 the PB I have my highest damage ever in a light mech in the PB (Actually highest damage not in a LuRM boating Kintaro trial mech, why is my highest damage match ever in a trial mech? shameful).

The X-5 is the big brother the LCT-1M never knew it had.

I have my X-5 set up with the same style and mentality as my 1M, and it does pretty well. Right now I'm using BAP/Streaks, but I've considered SRM4s as well, for a slower 1M with a bigger punch kind of thing.

My best match ever was in a CDA-2A, and I credit it entirely to what I learned about Locusting in this thread. :D

See, I try running it like a Locust and... it's just too slow...
Maybe I need to finally push and unlock Speed Tweak on the thing?

Also, I think my current X5 is SRM4s...

- Yeah, 4ML, 2SRM4, XL340

I sold my Locusts from the Phoenix pack, but was forced to keep the 1V. I run it with 1ERLL + 2xMG, XL 190. It's....kinda fun sometimes but far from my favorite. I'm a much bigger fan of the Commando and own three of them. Was looking at the Locust quirks and put this Locust 1E together in smurfy.

I may have to give that Locust a spin. 4.6million isn't much to risk for a good time. *shrugs*

Because I've almost never lost a side torso before I die in some other fashion in my Locusts, my 1E looks like this...

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...c755df7854ff259

I like the extra armor and heatsink, and the BAP is a nice ECM cancelling bonus for my team.

Well......

The Cicada was designed as a replacement for the Locust.

I have been running a STD190 (and do lose my sides) with similar heatsinks (but semi-wasted FF)

I've been using the Streaks + BAP since I like being able to track the SRM targeting with the arm MLs, which helps in the inevitable duels you end up with Lights in (another reason I like the BAP), and I find if I group the SSRM2s with the arm MLs I can circle and spam both like crazy for as far as my arms will reach. with all 4 MLs in a second group for when I get my torso reticle lined up for a clean shot.

I could totally see going the other route, with SRM4, and locking my arms for a nice alpha though. Kind of like a 1M/Huggin hybrid. Also, I really prefer the cooldown modules to the range modules on my X-5 and 1M. Rate of Fire > Range in this case, but at those speeds I have to be closer up to hit much of anything anyway. ;)
