Acccording to Wikipedia they're a species of short-horned grasshoppers.

I'd be curious to see the cannibalistic one, as that sounds kind of fun.

They're cannibalistic by nature, in the sense that "Look, protein, and I can get it."

They keep moving forward out of pure survival instinct. Locusts in a swarm eat anything in front of them. They can't slow down, because if they do, they're on the menu for the locust behind them.

This is surprisingly fitting. You slow down, you get killed by the pilot behind you. You keep moving, and you eat the enemy team until they are bones.

I feel like this aptly describes the 3S. I mounted 2 SRM4s and 2 SRM2s along with three tons of ammo.
It's a terror.

Well, this just got validated. A single Locust getting an enemy's Light Lance to return to their base whilst the rest of the group NARCed and visited merry hell on all of the other 'Mechs...

...and never took a shot there, because the Light Lance assumed the Locust was hanging around the UAV they saw yet still did not shoot down.

Kept on moving and never took a hit before I stopped and gave ECM to Mediums and Heavies.

The base cap diversion is classic Locust tactics.
Won my last Cap game that way.
Got a Jenner and Ebon Jag to fall back, scared the living bejeebus out of both of them when I shoved 12 SRMs in their faces and was lucky enough that two of my Medium allies showed up to help mop up. Then we just funneled enemies in while the Medium held the cap for the win.

I have on record about 300 matches won in my COM-2D without dealing any damage, or almost 0 damage.

My role was to simply circle around, get to the enemy cap as soon as possible, and wait. Once my team tells me the main engagement has started, I jump on the cap, and with cap accel equipped, it would appear as if I am at least 2 mechs. In every single one of those wins, the enemy team ends up panicking, and splitting, allowing my teammates to immediately core their rear CTs, and suddenly, a fight goes from 10v10 to 10v5.

I'm not a light 'Mech pilot, but I've tried a few. I also started out with Spiders and they were actually pretty good. I've also tried Panthers, Jenners and Firestarters. The Firestarter was tough with a bite, couldn't get a good feel on the Jenner and the Panther was surprisingly fun for me as it fit my longer range style of play. However, for pure chaotic fun, nothing beats the Locust in my opinion. I've had some higher damage games in my PB and 1E, but even when I don't the little guy is so fast and crazy I have fun no matter what (usually, lol). They are cheap and surprisingly effective. I don't recommend this 'Mech for newer players since it is quite fragile, but get a little time under your belt and then give her a shot and you might be surprised how fun it can be.

It's a pastime we truly enjoy, XD. I still love my 6 SPL LCT-1E. purpose built for that exact activity.

Locust is the king of Assault coring.
I just wish I could fit more than 3 tons of SRM ammo while keeping 2 SRM2s and 2 SRM4s on my 3S. I can't feasably strip any more armor from the mech... Maybe if I remove the engine?

Yeah, I am curious how you fit 6 tons of weapons and 3 tons of ammo (and then survive long enough to need 3 tons of ammo) on the locust. I run 4 srm2 with an xl180, strip the arm and head armor to 5/1/5 for 3.5 tons of ammo, with no back up laser. I would need to lose 1.5 tons somewhere to catch up to you :D

Does the shorter cycle time on the SRM2s make up for the heat, when compaired to 2SRM4s? I normally default to SRM4s when running them but may just need to dust off the missile lcts and try the 2s.

Never did the math, but I prefer the faster firing rate 4-2's to 2-4's so i can fit as many shots into the small space of time I can engage the enemy before getting to cover. If it were a question of 2-2's or 2-4's I would go with 2-4's every day (say locust 1m with 2 m hard points, although the 2ml-2srm4 build is pretty ammo limited.)

Thanks! If I every have that thing called free time I might have to mechlab/testing grounds it sometime! Till then I may stick with your build, more output before bugging out sounds like the best answer, assuming you can get at least 2 volley's out before needing to scoot.

There you go. I sacrificed the laser for an additional ton of ammo. I like using 2 2s and 2 4s because the different cooldown speeds stagger the shots after the initial cooldown. It's got paper thin armor but the surprise alpha makes for a good deterrent against pilots trying to brawl it.

Try this little fella out, Max speed 3.5 tons ammo and decent armor considering the speed he has for defense.

Here is one more, this one has a back up laser 3.0 tons ammo a little more armor but a little less speed. I use both of those configurations and they work quite well, as far as the armor goes you have 3 extra armor for the arms and 6 extra on each leg so its not as bad as it looks.

They are very fun to pilot and the agility is ridiculous.
