I played some other "free to play games" over Christmas and the new year and It doesn't matter whether your an elf, a tank, an airplane, dwarf or a space soldier man they all have more issues than mwo and most of them are real sucky, so give the devs and pgi , piranha et al a slap on the back and a hearty whoooo hoooo. Oh and I had a go of a new fantasy mmorp that will be released soon and man that has more bugs and issues than a rain forest.
So thanks guys . . . can I have my hero Raven x4 now?

2) Balance issues/discussion on the other hand are generally more subjective and varied and can be found in relation to any multiplayer game.
So not sure which you are trying to address in the OP, however
1) You probably haven't been here long enough and possibly haven't spent on the game on the basis that the developer claimed that feature x would be out in y days, only for that not to happen multiple times, therefore are not affected by and do not understand the ongoing disappointment that the community have with the developers.
2) Happens to every game, people have opinions about how games should be balanced, and *shock horror* post them on the official forum pertaining to that product.

The 3rd person view fiasco instead of a decent tutorial certainly didn't help.

This is called "beta burnout"
the game itself has only actually been "released" for about 3 months. I know from friends that started playing since release that "burnout" is something they aren't even close to. a lot of them are still levelling their first or second mechs even.
We tend to forget that beta is an unfinished product. Being "burned out" from the past 2 years is more a fault of the new F2P model and how alpha & beta are released than the expectations of the community.
Microsoft renewed the license till 2020. I trust microsoft a lot more than the doomsayers here as to their trust in the future of the product, and if indeed you feel "burned out" the best thing to do is take a break.

The only thing that draws me to a game is the PvP....the fluff is something I have never been interested in. I never even play the single player for games unless it unlocks stuff I can use in multi-player.

Agreed hence why I only play patch on major patches then I play that week and then quit. I'm still waiting for the game to get finished and have polish applied. Solid game for the most part just needs more content and features like the Collision Package, UI 2.0, DX 11, Community Warfare Stage 1-3, Clans, and Single player. That last one is what I'm really looking forward to and hopping to see at least next year.

Burnout is still an issue and is there for a reason due to poorly managed expectations and the previous offered deadlines and just the fact that people have been "teased" with the CW content.
Other than that others know from previous experience what MWO could be coming from previous version of the games that had their own interpretation of CW. They know the experiences can be better and are waiting for this to come to fruition.
It isn't fair to play on these emotions of where the game could be and continue to delay the delivery of this content. Hence these emotions helping to actually fuel burnout.
People in it for the long haul knowing the eventual release of CW will remain. Others will return and the game re-energised when these features are then in game. But you still need to identify with where the game is now and accept the condition it is in, compared with the potential people are waiting for. This is causing problems for retention of interest atm for some.

excellent point. That to few of people fail to understand. While admitedly im pretty burnt out myself, I still understand how many players are just now stepping into it and a few are VERY VERY interested. Most people I see complaining are ones that have been around since the long haul.

This however is also a really good point. I hope that many will remain. I do think that many will come back once CW comes, if nothing else to see what its like. Can only hope either way.
Myself, I choose to stay positive but cautious.

Heh, I pre-ordered Defiance and when the Shadow War stuff was up and stable I went to do it. All people were running around with Cloak and whatever those 2 barrel shot guns were called pretty much one shotting people. People complain about the meta here, most games have broken mechanics as well.
Here is another. In Warhammer Online, it had 2 mechanics that were broken as heck. One was the Dwarf Iron Breaker. Their punt ability was able to knock back people much farther than the other class and race abilities. It was found out due to the size of the avatar that was causing it. People complained about it until Mythic looked into it. By that time the damage was done and the people who were there for PvP only either quit the game or rolled the same class. The other one was the Bright Wizard. The Bright Wizard, unlike the Chaos Mirror class the Sorceress, was able to defuff it's own damage type. The Sorceress had to rely on others to debuff their shadow resistance to hit people harder but the Bright Wizard could do it's own debuffing.
So yes, this game has issues. Yes this game right now is just a shooter. I still enjoy it and wish PGI got stuff to us faster so I can keep logging in more and more.

Yay, mediocrity!
Just because all your competitors suck doesn't mean it is ok for you to do so as well. F2P games seem to have lowered our expectations as gamers quite a bit and I find that very disturbing. I would be very happy to see the F2P model fail because it is too easy for companies to sucker people in with big promises and then fail to deliver. This is why I no longer preorder games also. I want a solid finished product, not some half baked, half finished **** the dev will attempt to polish for months on end.

Being pretty cynical I would suggest that the release date and phoenix pack were tactical decisions by PGI to boost some numbers short term while starting negotiations on license renewal. Lets be clear, very little has changed since beta (especially open beta) began. It might as well have been open beta that constituted the release date given the lack of progress that has been made since then.
As I sat earlier today writing the roadmap for my own team's development timeline for 2014 I ccouldn't help but wish I could get away with half of the slack that PGI have gotten away with on MWO.
In fact, thinking about it, I can only really come up with 4 notable mechanics off the top of my head that have been introduced since closed beta ended, and these are:
12v12 - fine
ghost heat - generally opposed
3pv - almost universally despised
hill walking restrictions - pebbles stopping mechs of all sizes in their tracks for a while
That took what, a year or more? 2 of which the community really didn't want.
As to Microsoft, they designed windows 8 based around what a few of their engineers wanted to use, rather than their general customer base, as such their decision making integrity of recent years is hardly bulletproof. Perhaps if they had looked closer actual progress on the game itself, and the dreadful community management as measures in their decision there may have been a different outcome.

a different outcome to what?
Simple, the different outcome would be not renewing the mechwarrior licence with PGI on the basis that PGI clearly weren't (and probably still aren't for all we know) working towards what they said they were going to in the first place.
edit: clarification

I'm on the other end of the scale. I have PvP once in SWTOR and I think twice in Neverwinter. I am here to play the Clan invasion. That is what I was told this will be. A PvP in Universe game. You are the Clans I am the Inner Sphere. We meet up on this that or the other invaded worlds and battle it out for bragging right, and assets to add to our faction.
To date, all I got is a bunch of grind, and not much to brag about outside of Killing a Khan once ...so far!

Well, if it's bragging rights you need, then you should direct yourself to the ego-stroking section

considering the "beta" mwo had is extremely similar to its launch, I don't blame anyone for being burned out on this game.
