i found it really wasteful. it scales really bad. in 1200p+ everything is so small and so spread out with a whole lot of nothing in the middle...
just bad UI design and scaling. i'm not even talking about glaring insufficiencies like no weapon overview or hardpoint overview in mechlab/store or just being able to click on the mech's bodyparts...

Looks good, just needs some minor tweaks for the most part. I would really like some sort of "paper doll" or SOMETHING that shows your entire mech load out in one spot. Really dont like having to look at each idividual part of the mech to see whats on it. Sorry, but in this respect UI.1 is far superior. How about replacing the giant pic of the mech on the right side of the screen with a "paper doll" of the load out. The picture ,though nice is not needed while the load-out mech is.

Now, more importantly, i was unable to actually join a match. I tried 4 times and each time I encountered an error (memory allocation ########## bytes failed) and the game crashed to desktop.

To the peeps replying in this forum, It would have been nice to actually see peoples responses to the UI instead of pages and pages of mindless trolling........{Surat}......

No kidding but what else to expect whenever white knights are on?

I'm not at all surprised by ui2.0 being broken, also hear the broken glass is really just meh, nothing special. I've heard from too many that they cant seem to get into a match. Seems like be better off without it.

It's actually really nice. I finally got a chance to test it out, and while there are still a lot of improvements to make, at 1920x1200 it's very functional. It took a few minutes to learn the new interface, but that happens pretty much for anything (like upgrading to Office 2010 style bars...wtf? I still can't find half the functions 2 years later).

Social upgrades weren't in, and I think that might be a launch module feature (in April).

Honestly the current UI is fine for everything except the social aspects. So that to me is a disappointment. All they needed to do with the current UI is add better tool tips, sorting and social aspects and we would've been good.

So I can understand why everyone is annoyed.

For those who missed the test, Phil over at NGNG has a neat video overview.

I liked a lot of what I saw (the mech models in the hangar look simply gorgeous), but I'm also fairly annoyed. PGI said that feedback has been taken into consideration, but it looks like there's been close zero improvement on the mechlab since the last test.

Anyhow, a few thoughts:
  • Or, how about being able to sill select windowed mode for the pre-battle part of the game, and full-screen with another resolution for combat?
  • [li]In the mechlab, add a paper-doll like navigation - at the very least for the armour distribution.
  • [li]Having an "equip" button on items is nice, but how about an "remove" button too, so that we can easily see what's on in the list, and not have to go and drag it off from the other end of the screen?
  • The camo section, while looking nice, seems like a pain to navigate. We're not using a d-pad, give us a big colour swatch on which we can just click.
  • The interface elements look absolutely tiny in 1440p. The font size is too small for 27" monitors. Some of the panels you have take a minuscule portion of the real estate but still require scrolling. So, PGI, make the interface scalable. Use %s instead of number of pixels. Or at least let us select from "normal" and "large" preset.
That's just some very basic stuff, and now I'm entering in a bit of a wishlist.
  • Have some mechanics walking around and working in that hangar
  • On the list of mechs we own, show the actual camo we have on each one instead of having it only on the heroes and everything else being all green.
Overall though, the 4th of February can't come any sooner.

I don't understand why the UI hasn't been outsourced to a company that makes UI's like everyone else does :D

You sure do hear a lot. Love how the broken glass is "meh" since it wasn't even in the game.

Don't you have another game to play? You don't play yet you comment on new features you've never even seen.

So, did you bother to provide constructive information in the Questionnaire?
Or is QQing your method 'feedback'?

I think the part about his hating a whole country was quite informative. :D

Gorthaur......It keeps the programmers busy, so they don't have to work on Community Warfare.

What's great is I don't even have to try anymore. I just have to post in a thread, not even mock or troll, just post, then the apoplectic mouth-breathers come out and make the thread about me.

Well in all fairness to those "apoplectic mouth-breathers", there is only one K-Town Baker right. So you have to just "roll with the dough", so to speak. :D

On Topic.

When selecting the CT, it should show the loaded engine and NOT every other Engine you cannot load until you uninstall the existing one anyways.

Totally agree on the whole, where is the "Existing Load Out" on the currently select Chassis button...?

I guess we do "own" the Trials, but they should not show up anywhere else bu that tab.

More filters please. I want to filter for only those Mechs I own that have "STD300 Engines", or currently have > 3 LL's on board, etc. etc. etc.

Are filters hard to program or what?

seems like it would cost more to pay their own programmers to design a UI that doesn't work and will probably have to build again. granted, i haven't tried the new UI but from videos i've seen and through word of mouth... it is sounding like this might be a strong possibility.

not trying to be negative, just wondering why they haven't outsourced honestly. it may cost a bit more but it would also free up their staff like crazy. but i guess it is all about that bottom line in the end.

What I've gleaned from this thread is that being a game programmer must be the most thankless job on the planet.

Dev: "Years of work, neglecting my kids and my friends all for this moment. We've got work left to do, but this is our labor of love so far. Please enjoy and share our vision for the future."

Player: "U SUK UR GAME SUKS WHY CANT I PUT 7 G RIFLES ON MY RAVEN? BUGGY AND WEIRD I SPEND $200 OF MY MOMS PAYCHECK ON THIS AND U SUK"

Okay, so It's not always that bad. :P Some of the folks on here can be pretty harsh, though. Can't we all just get along?

The biggest two issues I encountered were the over all scaling (as many people have mentioned) when you have it set to very high resolution and the fact that the button to <accept changes> was hard to identify... it has not only been renamed to <check out> but was so small I had trouble finding how to actually keep changes I made. <check out> may be more accurate, since it can charge both cbills and MC, however it is so tiny and different that it was easy to miss and misunderstand.

honestly it looks s**t thats my opinion

you should stop wasting time on fancy menus and do important things like adding more content to the game

also several years on and the client STILL crashes

Please allow people to see more detailed information like hardpoints (unless i missed it while I was on UI test 2.0) and where they are on the mech prior to purchasing a battlemech.

Thank you.

Ho black knight, thou doth protest like a woman afflicted with the monthly curse! Take your whining to forums far from this land, or prepare to meet my mech in the field of battle (if you have not quit yet)!

I've talked too others who were in on the test. Some things are alright but mostly underwhelming.

Also I'll do whatever I want, I did my part to help fund the game I have every right to participate in the forums even if it is to condemn the lack of progress in the game, I have that right, and you dont have the right to tell me I have to leave. Dont like it then just ignore it simple as that.

you also have the right to be ignorant, the right to be stupid, the right to be insightful, the right to be intolerable, the right to be unreasonable, the right to insult people, the right to be pompous, the right to be the opposite of the latter. Sir the right to do something doesn't mean you should or that it was the best thing to do
