We know the following:

- The new light mech will be "controversial"
- The new light mech is "famous because it was used by a particular faction"
- It is not the panther
- It must be IS
- It arrives Feb. 4th.


So, the only mechs that would be possible:

But the Javelin was not really famous, I guess it will be the Wolfhound.

The following is on Sarna about the Wolfhound:

"Phelan Kell and his Wolfhound, nicknamed "Grinner", were captured by the forces of Clan Wolf during Operation Revival. When Phelan was inducted into the Wolf Clan as a Warrior, Khan Ulric Kerensky ordered his 'Mech be upgraded using Clan technology. BV (1.0) = 1473, BV (2.0) = 1,176"

If they considered Wolf Dragoon's a faction, then maybe Flea as well. Urbanmech was sorta universal, so I have doubts on that one. When did they say Panther was out?

hmm i think they will give us a hero of one of the existing Mechs. Because the end of the month Mech will be the Griffin (or the Wolverine) so i dont think they will introduce a completely new Mech were we would wait 2 months to get the C-Bills Variant.

A new mech could be released in march

I would say the Thorn, but it doesn't really meet the "faction" requirement - and despite 1 variant earning its stripes at Tukayyid they aren't really famous either. Also, that's not for another year or two anyway.

Only reason to say Thorn is Alex's really awesome drawing of it that has floated around the forums, that and it would be controversial (usability).

By "controversial", I just keep dreading that what PGI really means is "everyone will be pissed at us over this, too".

Whatever it is, it most DEFINITELY won`t be here on Feb 4th. Or March 4th. Or on the 18th of either month.

We MIGHT see the hero variant of it on April 1st. and the standard variants on April 15th.

Why?

Because the Mech of the Month is always with teh second patch of the month, and either the Griffin or the Wolverine is going to come for c-bills on Feb 18th, and the other one will be her on March 18th.

Or is there an official Dev statement that I missed that says explicitly it will be here on Feb. 4th?

Can anyone confirm the rumor that it will be 35 tons? Following the podcasts this ton limit came up again and again. So the Javelin would be out. Also the Javelin is not popular for beeing one factions popular mech.

The Wolfhound may be popular, but it was firstly only used by the Kell Hounds and Wolfs Dragoons. Can the two merc units be called a particular faction? It was only past the 4th succession wars the Wolfhound, produced in prestigious lyran factories, became famous in Steiner-units, and of course Davion-units, because Mary Sue gets all the good stuff..

But still I also would not call the Wolfhound as totem mech like for Steiner or Davion, as the Raven is for Liao or the Panther is for Kurita!

At 35 ton limit, the Firestarter also is a famous mech design. Yet it also lacks the totem status to any house I know.

At the end, looking at what light mechs are available - none of them seems to have a lot of totem status either as Commando for Steiner is allready out. Valkyrie for Davion unseen. And I do not know an iconic Marik light.

So my guess beeing scarce of possibilities would be Wolfhound (iconic to Hounds, Dragoons, Steiner and Davion) before Firestarter, which would be controversial as a flamer dedicated mech.

But I also would like to see the Javelin!
