I've been thinking about UI 2.0, looking at the posts, the suggestions etc. PGI likes the artistic route, and the community wants something functional like Smurfy. I would agree with PGI to a degree that as pretty as these mechs look fantastic, why would we want to cover them up with that kind of overlay.

I'm suggesting a collapsible view. For those who want the Smurfy look can expand all the sections and mod away to hearts content lol. There is some open space here too, so it will scale to the lower resolutions. These are @ 1920x1080. I would have no clue how it would look on 1440p.

So if you want to expand say Right arm just click it, and you'll get the expanded view for that section. I would probably suggest a more prominent place to put the tonnage indicator instead of away from everything but I haven't figured out where I would want it really.

I have removed the right menu entirely. As it feels to me personally it would be easier to click on the part of the mech that I want to modify. As opposed to moving the mouse all the way over etc. It'll make it easier to navigate imho. Also a strip all button will eliminate a bunch of clicks when a new mech is bought. Later on down the road there is enough space here to put in a Save/load config menu and have it pop up and cover the entire overlay showing what saved configs you have for that chassis.

UI 2.0 also needs the ability to remove modules etc with just a double click. No need to move the mouse all over the place to remove individual pieces. Also... A strip all button.

Unexpanded look:

One major thing I would see: This is an A1, so there are only missile hardpoints. Getting a mech with everything, it might get quite busy on the topside of the module screen. Maybe adding a 2nd row to the selection would do the trick.

Let me know what you guys think.

Current UI 2.0 look for comparison:

EDIT: updated the screenshot I had a layer out of place lol.

I definitely like the second screen shot and is much more intuitive.

Too bad this will fall on deaf ears.

Yeah thats what I like about this, if someone doesn't want the smurfy look and prefers the mech, they can collapse everything but the part they are working on ;)

Good thing too, this would be a click/drag fest of a mechlab. It would take awhile to edit a mech.

How so compared to the current ui 2.0?

And the projected UI 2.0 version that we'll most likely get won't?

I would go simply crazy trying to edit the armor values as it is.

Saxie's version is like... "WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE???"

Ui 2.0 is actually less click fest than the current UI. But yes, Deathlike, the armor could be annoying if you didn't know what to put on in the first place.

The current UI2.0 is a click fest and not very intuitive. I like the OP's ideas but I'd definitely post them in the official feedback thread. That's generally the first place suggestions are collected from what I've seen

My main gripe about the current UI 2.0 version is not that its a click fest, but the lack of information on the mech lab screen. I cannot see what is in my right torso unless I go back click on the left hand menu *right torso*, then click the previous section I was working on. ;)

EDIT: Sandpit I was going to put this there but they locked that feedback portion before I could post it lol.

Now if only someone at PGI would make that happen for us.

Add this and the option to add/remove items via double-click, and it will be a good mechlab.

To me this looks like a Meet in the middle type of format which i like you can close them down and see your mech or open it up fully and see the full mech load out if you wanted

I like it! I appreciate versatility and better options for the players. Would be great of PGI would take note of player generated suggestions like this.

This idea would be a huge improvement. Nice thinking Saxie!
