Saxie, this is very good. Much more intuitive, I really hope this suggestion gets adopted!

Thanks! Unfortunately I'm not the greatest graphic design, its a pretty hack copy paste lol. It's good to see a positive thread I'm glad everyone is taking to the idea.

They're working on adding Smurphy to the game. i like the second screen shot, reminds me of MechWarrior 3's version. sort of.

One thing I would like to see in the UI in general is the ability to check a box to go from a list view to the icon view (just like windows lets you switch back and forth at will).

Also, the little box at the bottom of the screen that has the total mech information in a bar chart should blow up to at least double size while actually editing a mech. I don't mind if it overlaps with the mech models' feet (so far no visuals on the feet change anyway) and that information is important if incomplete.

That bar should show heat threshold as well as heat dissipation with values that relate directly to the heat scale on weapons, not a ratio of some scaled amount that isn't well explained. (ie use absolute numbers not relative).

Alpha strike as a method of figuring damage is also really bad for most players, and leads to an entirely false conclusion that more is better. We need a dps counter at the very least.

The speed of your mech should be in there as well, and since that scale is a fixed value for all mechs is could easily have 4 parts: Your top speed, your top speed with speed tweak, your mech's top speed, and greyed out the top speed of all mechs. I would mind if it's broken into sections that show the average top speed of mechs in each weight class.

Nice mock up. The ability to switch between full info and partial info in order to show off your mech is a very nice feature. The full on smurfy effect is nice and user friendly, but hides the glorious paint job I purchased.

Great suggestions.

And please give us back our immersion

Launch instead of Start
Whatever but not checkout
buy, purchase, apply, save, equip, but do not transform this into an amoazon cart.
Yes please do not use the word cart either.

^^^ This, a thousand time this.

UI 1.5 = "Tell the head mechanic to equip that ac/20, its going to be a brawl tonight"

UI 2.0 = "Gee, which digital McGuffin should I use today. Oh, the big pretty gun is nice."

this is such a depressing post, when you have to plead to a game dev to honour the very universe they're trying to sell you. such a simple 101 aspect of entertainment media.
