It's pro i can see is it's got arms (better aiming coverage)
It's got a fairly decent payload but ammo based.
So why would we go there?

- Tiny target.
- Missiles in arms (is a big deal).
- Very quick.

Yep, the lighter the mech the faster MAX speed it can go with a new engine....
Also it has different hardpoints overall
Although it is missing jump jets
A commando (25ton) can get up to a 11/17 speed with a normal (non XL) engine..that is without armor/weapons. 1 ton left over
A Jenner (35ton) can get up to a 9/14 speed with normal (non XL) engine...without armor/weapons and 3 tons left over
However if you drop the commander to 9/14 . you have 6.5 tons left over.....that help?
BTW. the default jenner speed is equal to a 7/11....cicada is equal to 8/12..for those that don't know BT TT rules
Then of course there is still stuff we don't know like torso twist speed, acceleration, turning radius... stuff like that
Module slots will be a MAJOR determining factor for me, and we don't know those numbers either.

Well it IS the Steiner Armored Infantry...
Seriously, it's got a nice energy mount in one arm, can pack SRM's in the other. That's gotta be a nice field of fire for MWO, if it can keep from being hit too often.

LOL, could totally see someone making one of those..and that is even before XL engine

well, in BT TT terms you could fire it behind you while running away
Take a commando with 2/3 of its armor, upgrade the engine to go 8/12 (default speed of a cicada) put a LRM5 (3 tons of ammo, which is alot for a LRM 5) in that arm ..Also this is before XL engines and endo steel internals that would be able to give you more tonnage to work with.........
then you could make hit and run attacks, (most likely) run into range. shoot and keep shooting till you are out of range.. and since it is a LRM, you don't have to be pinpoint aim or anything.. And kite them..
Only thing that would be able to keep up (not outrun) you would be a default cicada. Or someone who also made their light mech much faster than default also .
......of course if someone made a commando with a bigger engine and only 1 medium laser then they could catch you lol

It can also ambush quite well being able to poke a hole through the rear armor of many medium and lightly armored heavy mechs with the large laser and then try and crit it to death with the SRM rack.
It can also out range most light and several medium mechs as well and with its 6/9 speed it can retreat fast enough to stay out of the range of a hunchie indefinitely.
It is however, lightly armored and thus prone to dying if forced into a direct engagement.
So... it's good if you're a sneaky bastage.

Any mech in the Battletech universe was worth of use. If it wasn't so strong than it was cheap, or fast. I dont know how the clanfights will be, but you have to keep in mind your rep bills. Its like in EVE Online if you knew it. Sometimes it is cheaper to fight 5 atlas with 30 Commando, and you will win the battle and the war as well. But anyway i am sure the guys will ballance it well out, so each mech can be used for someone.
And one more thing. Remember the MW4: Mercs Flea? It was the smalest and "weakest" mech, but with 2 XPulse small and 1 XPulse medium it could kill a Daishi becaus you couldnt hit the damn thing with your mech.
That is why i loved the Battletech universe. You can kill anything if you are skilled.

Your arms move a lot faster than your torso can twist. This means arm-mounted weapons are more responsive than torso-mounted ones.
