This game isn't that GPU intensive. You'll have no trouble playing MWO on the highest settings at 1080P. YMMV with other games, since the 8970M seems similar to or a hair below a desktop 7870.

How about an ASUS G75?

http://www.newegg.co...0140130232054:s

It's a little bit more than the price range you posted, but it has a good CPU/GPU for it's price, I own a G50, and a G73, and still have both, since it's seems to be an updated version of my G73, I'll assume it will last. these laptops tend to have an extra drive bay, so installing an SSD if you feel you need one shouldn't be a major issue. The only downside I can see is the weight, and the size might make finding a carry case diffcult.

I looked at that one but since I'm going over a bit anyhow I figured the extra 1-200 bucks wouldn't kill me for a 7200 6/GBs hard drive and a better GPU.

Again, to everyone who posted in here. THANK YOU! I'm much more comfortable with the sager now. Without the reviews I don't know that I'd ahve ventured outside of my comfort zone to a smaller company and off brand laptop

Ok guys, I'm getting ready to place my order and I've got this dilemma. I can't see any difference in these two that would warrant me spending an extra $80 for the 8290 over the 8270. Any ideas, thoughts, opinions?

As far as I can tell there's no fundamental difference. Let me know how you like it though, might get one myself later this year.

I am starting the search for a new gaming laptop.
I currently have an Acer Aspire 7741G-3647
i5-450M 2.4GHZ processor
ATI Mobility Radeon HD5650 (1GB)
4GB DDR3 Ram

I've started to price and I'll probably be looking for something in the $800-$1000 price range. I usually head to best buy, new egg, and tiger direct to do my research but I figured I'd get some suggestions from my fellow gamers. So if you know of any good retailers, etc. I'd appreciate it.

First off, take my advice or don't it is up to you but I have built and sold over 100 Gaming Laptops, and built and sold over 1000 Gaming PC's over the last 15 years. If you would like some help I would be more than happy to assist you and even hook you up with a good deal since you are a fellow Mechwarrior.

[redacted]

There are only 3 options worth ANYTHING right now.

1. MSi
2. Lenovo
3. Sager

In that order. [redacted] Also, avoid AMD like the plague. We have had NOTHING but problems with AMD and MWO these days. You really want to pony up $1000 or more if you are going to do ANY Gaming on a laptop, but again take my advice or do not. You will want a really nice Corsair M65 mouse or similar Corsair mouse for this game. I highly suggest a 17 inch screen. Okay look forward to talking to you soon sir.

Best Regards,

[redacted]

You seem like a decent guy (and I agree with your avoid the big box stores statement), but this is pretty inaccurate. What kind of kickback you get for selling nVidias?

Myself, most of my friends, and several of my customers (I don't work for a gaming store, for the record) all have been running on AMD gpus (mobile and desktop, high and low end), with no issues.
The 8970m which Sandpit is looking at, speaking in $$ to performance ratio, will easily beat out any mobile nVidia card.

I love MSI, but the gaudy looks and "plasticiness" put me off.
Having owned both both MSI and Sager, Sager build quality is better.
MSI has great support, but so does Sager.
Lenovo doesn't even make a gaming laptop that comes close in spec to the Sager he's been looking at. Grouping Lenovo in with high-end MSI and Sager is... questionable. Placing it above Sager on your list there is ludicrous.

Also this is pretty obviously a sales pitch... busted! lol

Right, I own a 7970M which is only little bit slower and the only bottleneck is the CPU. 2,3 GHz 3rd gen i7 is ok, but it may drop to 25 fps in heavy fights on 1080p and mostly high detail.
To get higher fps I would need a faster CPU with higher clock.

EDIT: The performance/money value is much better for AMD for GPU. Though the driver/software might be better for Nvidia cards. If there is a problem with AMD cards and MWO, then the problem sits in front of the pc.

Yup actually testing some for one of my review sites right now. Such good battery life. Such good performance. These will probably hit the market in a month or two so it could be worth the wait.

guys chill please. Do you have a website for your company World? You'll forgive me if I'm hesitant but there's more than a few people in this particular community who would love nothing more than to "get back at me" because I wasn't "nice" to them or their idea or their post lol

Doesn't look like a CEO or a professional in general when a guy comes into a forum and insults other people.

Well, I don't intend to get into that argument, but because it's relevant to the discussion, I will note one thing. This hardware forum isn't as old as much of the rest of the forums, because it was put here by request, but it's been around for quite awhile, probably at least since somewhere in CB, and since its creation, Nvidia users have consistently reported problems in MWO at about a 5:1 or 6:1 ratio vs AMD users.

The topic or AMD vs Nvidia for MWO comes up a lot, and as such, I've surveyed threads here at least a dozen times on that topic in the last year or two, and that ratio has held with startling consistency. That's not a knock on Nvidia or their cards, since both companies have their weak spots, but MWO really does seem to hate Nvidia, and that can be reasoned with something more substantial than insults and http://en.wikipedia....al_to_authority

I will note, as a caveat, that GPU-related issues have generally been decreasing over time, and threads seeking help for them have decreased enormously in frequency, so MWO appears to behave reasonably nicely across the board at present.

Ok guys, LPC had new models getting ready to drop so I've been waiting on that to put an actual build together and get ready to order. This is the build I've come up with and just wanted to get your thoughts and opinions since you've been so helpful thus far. This is about as high as I care to go as far as price is concerned but I still have a little wiggle room if I there was somethign I could change that would make a big difference.
