Well as I said I am not a fan of groups doing this. The Ques are divided so PUGs won't play against 12 man teams. BUT playing against a 12 man team shows to a new player that there is a higher level of communication and coordination they can achieve.
I think no one need to get stomped to get the insight that a tuned team coordinated by the advantage of voice communication is superior to a random group of players ...
The only thing to learn is: join them or leave the game because of frustration. Some very frust resistant players (like me) and BT fans maybe stay but I think most new players will leave for other games. I have 3 friends that tried the game and left it shortly after trying. One of them even played other mechwarrior titles with much fun.
The cycle of doom is very pretictable:
1. Rough entry for new players
2. A minority of elite players dominate a majority of causal players
3. Causal players get frustrated, some leave, some maybe try to join the ranks of elite players
4. decreasing amount of causal players and slightly increasing amount of elite players increase the domination of the elite players
5. More Causal players leave, new players condition gets even harsher because of decreasing amount of causal players to match with them
6. Some elite players leave because of decreasing player numbers, problem with matching (get bored, too high waiting time)
7. Spiral goes down further, causal players no gets frequently dominated by elite players --> more causal players leave
8. Waiting time for elite player increase dramatically and while it was fun to pwn n00bs at first, it fastly get boring
9. Exodus of the most elite players to other games
10. Only few sturdy and hardcore fans remain but game is effectivly dead.
At frist it's a slow process, but in the end, it can be rapidly. I have already experienced this on another game PvP oriented game.
