Next Tuesday our software developing friends will deliver the new UI2.0
graphical user interface for the mechbay that is blocking all the other
fun stuff from being released!

I am really looking forward to being able to navigate among my +50 mechs
in a way that I actually can spot the things I bought.

:D

I'm not looking forward to the inevitable bug-fest and feature devolution in many aspects.
That's all inevitable in ANY new software, not a reflection on PGI.

But I am looking forward to it all being finished eventually, because it will ultimately be better for the game.

i'm looking forward to it, because - even if there will be bugs - it will be a milestone

even though there were several letdowns, i still believe in PGI

The new UI is decidedly rough at the moment. There are several areas where the usability is worse than the current UI. Hopefully though this will be the fire that they need, and new features AND usability tweaks will come at a steadier pace.

just to add it...
i hope everyone realsizes that "UI 2.0" is not only the "visible UI"...as far as a non-professional can tell, it will be a major restructuring of the underlying framework

Such an exciting patch. Lots coming out in addition to the new UI. Honestly, the feature I'm looking forward to the most is being able to see my mechs quicker than 20-30 seconds after a match.

I think everyone realizes that... doesn't change the fact that usability is in bad shape at the moment.

Note: This means no more excuses about 2.0 holdup, it does NOT mean stuff will magically be implemented. Do not expect community warfare for example. In other words development for such things can now begin...

...nah that's being a bit pessimistic isn't it?
*hopes there will be more cookies released then just a ui makeover*

Didn't they say that on Feb 4th we not only get the new UI but also the announcement of the new Light hero mech, or some time around there. God I hope its the Firestarter.

I don't think they said light mech. I think they just said previously unannounced controversial and specialty mech.

Its going to be a 35 ton Light mech, Russ even said it was on one of the NGNG pod casts.

He doesn't actually confirm that on the pod cast, he just doesn't argue against the supposition.

I don't care much about a new mech... don't hijack my thread!
I look forward to UI2.0!

I care about managing the mechs I already have!
- A mechbay where I can find my mechs!
- A mechbay where I can see the paint-jobs
- A mechbay where I can sort my mechs by the type at least

I have some humble wishes regarding the usability. I hope some other small additions will arrive really fast like:
- A button to strip all mechs of all modules
- A button that strips all the cockpit chrome like pennants and **** of all mechs
Then I will look forward to a lot bigger things like a lobby and... a universe... and CW!
:)

Keep in mind - it's always easier to edit a rough draft once it's on paper. It's hard to edit a blank document.

Getting it out will shine a light on its faults quickly; hopefully PGI will be quick on the fixes.

I think it was mentioned somewhere that the dev team will split in half after the patch with half working on new content and the other half working strictly on UI patches. So, if that's the case, every patch for the near future will contain work on the UI.

We know it won't be polished on the 4th, so if we want things to get done quicker we should keep the constructive criticism clear and rational. That's probably asking too much from the same community that responds to every patch with the same white noise of "ZOMGIHATEITIHATEITKILLITWITHFIRE!!!!!!!!", but as someone before said they still believe in PGI, I still want to believe in this community. And before anyone asks: no, I don't know why.

BETA! Ohh, wait...

Well, REALLY this game is still in a beta stage no matter how the developers want to refer to the game. Yea the UI 2.0 is going to be buggy and rough, but it will get better the more we use it and post feedback.

I am actually looking forward to seeing how it works despite the problems that will follow...unless the interface decides to sell off all my mechs and equipment...that would not be good.
