I second that idea
Perhaps one of those plane sim joysticks + pedals.
Depending if you use claw grip or not on your mouse... maybe try that logitech 20 button mouse?

The 12 thumb mounted buttons are programmable to suite your needs. Combined with the foot pedals you should be able to torso twist and use the mouse for movement, zoom and targeting.
I just don't recommend buying a RAT series. They have a 2 year warrant which you'll need because the hyper sensitive optics can {Scrap} out within 6 months. Returning mine this week for a repair/replacement.
Hope we get you in game!

I actually made a similar macro already for someone else on the forum, if you think it might work for you I could throw one together and tell you how to use it.
That being said though I think the people suggesting foot peddles have the right idea for a long term solution.

It has a small directional button on the thumb side which you could use to control the legs (Im not sure how this would be programmable though as I personally have a different mouse from that company without the directional button).

Here is another recommendation if your partner/SO/gf/wife is amicable to gaming. You have them pilot or be gunner. I did this with Mass Effect, where one of us would move the character and the other shoot. It takes practice but it really is fun when you build on good communication and teamwork.
Plus its almost like running a Battlemaster!

I would NOT recommend buying this mouse. Its the same manufacturer as my RAT3. This new mouse was bought as a gift and within 3 months of standard mmorpg use the optics died. I tried every trick in the book to get it work and there are forums of users having the same problem. Finally the manufacturer consented to replace it. Ironically my $5.00 Logitech mouse is lasting longer than the fancy mouse.

Pedals for the Speed and to Steer your Legs and Mouse for the Upper Torso Twisting and Aiming with any Functions on the Mouse-Buttons.
Which ones is up to your needs!

TrackIR5 -reticule aim... high precision mouse emulation using head tracking to aim the reticule.
CH Products throttle (only stand-alone throttle I know of...)
Saitek Combat Pro pedals
Throttle for throttle and all of the keypress functions (target enemy, firing weapons, vision modes, etc) you would use keyboard for, and you're steering w/your feet. This setup would not only work, but would be completely viable even in competitive environments once you got used to using it. For off-shelf solutions though, I believe this represents your ideal setup.
Void Angel mentioned a zero-order stick above, but I'm afraid this is not really something you can just buy. What he is talking about though is a stick dedicated for positional control like the way a mouse behaves, which there are only a small handful of in-game. My HOTAS setup I made for MWO is such a creature,, but this anomaly had to be fabricated. Foust made a version, and the Steel Batallion controller is also one. These sticks are just as out of their element in a flight sim as a regular fightstick is in MWO, for the same exact reasons.
I did a writeup on this a while back called Controls Demystified(?) to try to explain what makes controls behave the way they do and why this favors certain controller types depending on the context. Much of that is not relevant for your dilemma, but controls and interfaces are something I take fairly serious since they pretty much define your experience in a game, particularly in a simulator.

I hope your situation is only temporary.

Edit - off-topic: Loc Nar, I understand the concept of your stick, but do you have a video of it in action? The pictures of the setup alone don't really show how accurate it is - e.g. if I set my X52 to somehow zero-order it would be ridiculously sensitive due to the small range of movement of the stick. How does your setup counteract that - does it behave more like a mouse in its movement across the horizontal plane, et cetera.

My apologies for dragging this further off topic. If anyone wants to further discuss the finer points of this, lets take this conversation to my controls thread.
