I've noticed if/when I selectively "choose" match type the outcomes are almost always stomps. I'm talking the ubiquitous 12-0'esk type everyone is so fond of...
Conversely when I play "any" the outcomes are consistently far more equitable, resulting in 12-8 type results.
Curious...
I wonder if this is unique to me or anyone notice this and or is anyone interested in testing this theory?
Might be an odd contributor to the premise of every game resulting in stomps for some and contrary results for others...
Then again, might just be an anomaly...

Well, I would say that there is something to that. When you play a Conquest game, the games in which you dominate or are dominated, the winning team is typically one that is weighted more to the Light end of the mech spectrum. Consequently, you're able to move faster, cap faster, and react faster. With Skirmish and Assault, most people are going really heavy. In both cases, especially if there are premades involved, the probability of a face smashing are greater because now the odds are stacked even higher in favor against you (or with you if you're in the premade). It "feels" as if, when you choose Any, that there is less likelihood of a weight favored premade pushing against you which lessens the odds of a wipe/stomp.
Also, when it comes to Any vs. a specific match type, you're pulling players from a much bigger pool which means that you're more likely to have equal ELO players across the board. Picking a certain type puts you in a situation where you not only have a limited number of players picking that mode but now the ELO parameters widen to get an average. Now, you've got the combination of possible premades and mouth breathing bads mucking it all up.

Nope.
I always have "Any" selected because the stomps are too hard to deal with in specific modes.
The "Any" option gives the MM more wiggle room (i.e. more viable opponents and teammates to chose from), and therefore you get more accurate/balanced matches.
I think that sounds like a logical reason, but it makes one wonder how small the number of available players must be...

Quite honestly, this could be alleviated if you were allowed to queue up multiple mechs. Much like being able to queue for any of the three modes, which opens up the MM/ELO coding, putting more mechs into the pool would just help the game that much more. Just my opinion, though.

Yep. Another is if you build a close in brawler most drops will be in alpine.
I've been running a 4J the last week or so with srms/ml's and not quite enough heat sinks. Every time I start the game client my first match with that mech is on Terra Therma, without fail, every time, since I bought it a couple weeks ago.

That ones hard to tell. The nature of Skirmish is Deathball vs Deathball, that's usually going to shake out pretty quick.
In the other modes, you got people running all over, dragging out the battles, 3 on 3 or 4 situations, that can cause mini-comebacks that can make it appear more drawn out and balance, where actually chaos was the decider.

I think maybe most people who click on "Assault" games, are likely to have a large well built heavy/assault mech, designed to either brawl against the same or, to support with serious firepower.
hence, if you and you medium buddies decided to drop nr "any" and come up against a heavy.assault lance that had specifically came to a heavy fight WITH heavies, or gonna get rolled.
same in Conquest.
Nice organised light lance of 3Ls and and Spiders with ECM, Cap Acclerater, and Arty Drops.
you and your buddies drop in with LRMs and Brawler heavies, hoping for assault or atleast skirmish, and get conquest.
GG.

This is my experience as well.
I play mostly on "Any"... When playing during the day (US time), matches seem more even and much more fun. Once you get into US prime time, there seem to be many many many more pre-made 4 man groups running the poptart meta builds. The play gets boring and I notice more lopsided matches.

And doing the same thing, I've had it showing up about 1 in 3.
Luck of the draw, nothing was changed.

Along those lines, people also bring builds suited for the mode they select. On a very minor scale, it seems like the same principle as a generalist vs specialist build argument...
