Exploiters for the win, PGI offers the exploitable spider on sale.

If you can't fix it, sell it.

Yay sales

Yeah pretty baby is cool, some hot woman piloting a mech with the finess of a dancer... cough
A member of Delmar's assault lance, Tagaki's Battalion of House Davion's Chisholm's Raiders, Danielle does not look the part of a MechWarrior. Blond and beautiful, she has what many of her comrades call "the knack". Though joking and friendly outside of her 'Mech, when Danielle buttons up in her Awesome, she seems to become one with the machine, able to react as if it were her own skin.
This has saved her on more than one occasion when surrounded by enemy 'Mechs. In one instance, she literally skipped aside with her Awesome, the Pretty Baby, to avoid an incoming missile strike aimed at her. Danielle is famous throughout the Successor States for her skill in piloting the usually unmaneuverable Awesome.

I prefer the 'kwik killer' though, can you make one PGI? lol

Lieutenant Giles "The Banger" Barners
Commander of Barners' Lance of Wernke's Battalion in House Kurita's Brion's Legion, Giles is a hunk of a man who claims to fight in an Awesome because he simply would not fit in any smaller 'Mech. His heavy assault lance of black-painted Awesomes has instilled terror in many an opponent. Piloting his Awesome, the Kwik Killer, Barners has 56 kills officially to his credit.

That just sounds rad, awesome.. black death... ohh yeaaa

Damn, I kind of want a PB... I know its bad but for some reason I want one.

I bought a PB one of the last times it went on sale. Almost immediately I had buyers remorse as I could not find a way to use it effectively. That being said, I recently acquired an XL400 engine and decided to blow the dust off of her and refit it. Much to my surprise, I have been doing exceedingly well in this mech now.

I do not believe there is such a thing as an inherently "bad" mech. Any mech can perform poorly if you cannot configure it to properly match your play style. Now, I don't know if it was the refit, or if my play style has matured enough over time that I now understand the role of this mech on the field better, but this mech is definitely worth taking a look at. Explore a couple configurations in smurfy and see if it might be a good fit for you before you just write it off.

Are you seriously suggesting that it took over 25 people (half their staff) working full time just to do a sale? It probably takes 1 person about an hour each week, if that.

I was perhaps being somewhat deliberately disingenuous; however from Russ himself in the December command chair post:

Quote

- There is around 20 total staff working on content from maps, to `Mechs including hero, champion as well as skins and cockpit items. Remember all these staff do not contribute to features like CW and UI 2.0 they also do not drain away from those efforts

This is the bracket where deciding a sale is likely to sit, and it accounts for over half the staff.

Mainly what I'm doing is taking a stab at how MWO is resourced and showing some ire at how competent they are in steadily actioning efforts at taking from the community, including these pointless sales that lets face it all just blend into each other at this point, yet continually being hopelessly behind on anything that would improve the actual product that people play.

I do wonder how quickly we would be seeing new maps and features if they could smack a price on them and have a sale afterwards.

So in other words you took a statement about 20 people working on content and then used a massive dose of hyperbole to say that over half the staff works solely on creating sales? Yeah, sounds like typical internet behavior to me...

Also, reality check, but you are not the only customer of PGI. Sure, you might want every resource to be devoted to CW (even if people such as artists and modelers don't have the skill set for it) but other people do enjoy getting new mechs and continually post threads in anticipation of what the next release will be (see: all the threads about the next Light coming out on the 4th or speculation about the hero Hunchback). But, you know, if we had only 12 mechs and 4 maps to pay on because no one was creating content then I'm sure CW would be absolutely fabulous!

This game shouldn't have been called MechWarrior Online. It should have been called Plague of Sales: Online.

Oh well, figures when over half the staff work on stuff like this rather than, you know, the actual game.

Because, ya know, changing an MC cost is incredibly staff intensive work.

Comprehension is required for a written insult. Something I'm not entirely sure is possible among members of the opposition.

The mantra is so automatic I fully expect there to be some impassioned demands for ui 2.0 on the first ten posts come Tuesday.

Oh it's cool. Just have a sale where I already own all of that stuff. Sure, mine aren't "champions" but I'm not splurging to put (c) after a mechname.

Besides, I'm waiting for the Urbanmech hero on the 4th.

I think "skulking" is the correct word, given that the Pretty Baby is at the top of my "why does this mech exist" list.

Also... couldn't you have found better wordsmiths to create these sales? I'm no marketing genius, but it's not hard to find people willing to do that for you, at least not totally embarrass yourself when you put these things out.

Hardly a skunk!

Some of my most fun games have been in TDK. I've been 18 hours in the cockpit. One of the best lights (in my opinion) for its arm mounted lasers (arms that can move side to side and fully rotate). Totally different style game from the heavies/assaults I normally play. Even better now that the engine cap has been raised.

Buy the Spider with C-Bills ... everything else worthless in the current meta. A shame PGI cant balance mechs or weapons. Oh well ... what do players know? We are on an island playing a game that the developers and coders dont.

You guys throw this term around like it actually means something.

So tell me, what does it mean? What is the current meta?

Or do you just like saying it cause it might make some of the less experienced members believe that you actually know what you are talking about?

It is, of course, disingenuous and pissy to assume that these sales take the place of CW.

What these sales DO take the place of, is open communication with the devs. There is a great deal of dissatisfaction with the pace of development and several other areas of the game, and to compound these problems, PGI's openness and explanations about these problems has been extremely scant up until this very week (thank you, Kyle!). We've had to piece together threadbare narratives from bland, poorly worded posts that come every few months. PGI could have awesome reasons for the current weapon balance setup, heat sink philosophy, convergence, and all these other things, but we'd never know. It is really astonishing that we get NOTHING on these things, not even a deferring a la "We have to wait until Clan weapon discussion to talk about this." How is UI2.0 preventing the devs from writing twelve words?

If there were open dialogue or at least two sentences of explanation on the controversial subjects, a lot of hate would probably be deflected (though not all). But instead, there's a jarring silence that almost insults. And sales. Plenty of sales. The flippant overtones created by this unfortunate combination are why PGI has little goodwill left. It's not the meta, the matchmaker, or really even CW. Star Citizen demonstrates that communication = money and covers over a multitude of sins. Although even renewed communication will do very little unless UI2.0 really does prove to be the bottleneck preventing fixes as small and simple as the Frozen City texture bug.

This is why I post N.O.P.E. It's not about the issues. It's about the impressions.

TBH, they think they have an idea on what's wrong (it's some sort of race condition, with a workaround provided), but no ETA, and posts about that topic can be found if you dig hard enough in support.

They are not very good in their own communication, so that's their own undoing.

I just wanted to add:

That Merriam Webster includes this as it's first entry under noun: One who skulks. Thought this was pretty normal usage of the word. Not sure why so many are confused.

Bugs that appear small and simple never are.

Remember the HUD bug? *laughs* That was pretty epic right there.
