it is the game's fault when you suddenly drop in freaking frozen city and there's no view past 400 meters - einstein

the jag tanks shots 100 meters and instagibs, did you consider this sherlock? this is a good mechanic? you would have to be very slow not to get your splatcat or acjag kills in frozen city because it's that's just so convenient isn't it? how about every time the smaller maps roll in we give some players some free frags? sounds good? very skill based isnt it

Like i said dude. I never had trouble with them. You should calm down. There is lots of cover on frozen city. LOTS. And if you cant pull a team together to kill a splat cat... Well then... That seems like a reason to have lobbies. Also... Heat vision. Look at that. I just made you a little bit better. Now go win games and cry less.

If I'm playing Starcraft I'm going to lose to top players regardless of the variety of viable tactics available. But I'm sure that top players all appreciate a game that has true depth, a game that has no single dominating tactic to the exclusion of all other tactics at the highest level of play.

Even a simple game like Rock / Paper / Scissors adheres to this principle...

I agree with this completely. But what's happening is that the criers are trying to turn the game into rock / rock/ rock. They may argue that they just want more versatility, but i think when they still lose, they are going to find another thing that needs changed.

whatever gave you the idea i was crying about the splatcat? you must be not understanding the current state of the game.
the splat cat is gone, and it is gone for the reasons i told you it should go, it happened.

i am just explaining it to you, doin u a favor. now you're a little more educated on the subject. run along

to the contrary, this exemplifies the short sightedness of many people, you completely fail to realize the game was a lot less diverse before ghost heat, half the builds were stalkers, where now you see almost every mech there is being run, if rock is OP in rock paper scissors, when it becomes ROCK/ROCK/ROCK regardless, paper and scissors need to have the same chance or you see an abundance of ROCK

"yes broken, like the ac40 was and the splatcat was with the faulty area of effect on mechs, they would 1 shot kill cockpits on any mech, light to assaults."

That's not bitching about the splat cat?

there really has been a pattern of nerfing in game mechanics, instead of looking at the problem, and buffing weaker systems.

tbh if there was lobbies, people that want to avoid these issues should have an option to set match type to "stock mechs only" or "300m max range weapons" heck id be down to play "trial mechs only" lol

pgi's stance on just about everything people complain about. i did hear a rumor that they are going to remove jump jets, and make everything max range 300m.

Could careless about the under-gunned assault mechs trying to do something they can do with a Cataphract 3D. More concerned with SRMS, and either private lobbies or tonnage matchmaking, dropping against a force 500 tons over mine again and again makes it hard to take this game seriously.

Dropped on Caustic against 4 Atlas, a Stalker, a Victor, and a Highlander, while our only Assault was a Battlemaster. Seemed so very fair and balanced that it should be a part of a complete breakfast.

I don't see how anything I've ever posted, or my performance in other mech builds confirms what you've said. None of us have ever been scared of anything getting nerfed. We'll just use something else that works at a high efficiency.

I think you're the one who's scared. I rebuttled your contention that our FOTM builds was our crutch by calling for a complete poptart removal and you simply attempted to restate the rehashed rhetoric that you terribads have always used when we walk over your steaming, charred mech corpses. You know you're going to get pooped on, and you're so mad about it that you have to spew patently false statements despite our challenge.

As it has been, and always will be, any change to this game will not move us away from the top of the totem pole. We are imbalanced. We are OP. Get ready to get steamrolled by the House of Lords.

yeah weight limits would help alot of the "4 assault premades" running around too. 55-60 tons per player would make it interesting again.

I second the move for lobbies... I mean as it is now i only have to deal with these low ELO twits on the forums. They normally don't make it into my games. I only deal with them because they want to take away the ways I like to play. How is that fair?

We should just give them their own little corner to be mediocre in.

Dear Paul,

we all know that is some aspects HGN is better than other mechs. But the problem is - there always will be some mechs better than others. It;s like Hydra's heads - you cut one and another grows up. If you nerf HGN, they will use STK, nerf STK, they will take CTF-3D etc.

You should grasp the whole situation, analyse it from strutural point, not just nerf/buff certain things.

Single HGN is not the problem, 4 HGN - that is a real problem. First, apply tonnage limitation, then look at the balance.

It's precisely like ghost heat: single or two PPC are OK, but 4 PPC make trouble. So don't let ppl take 4 HGN or 4 Victors - and the problem will be solved.

If you nerf HGN or JJ it will only take one of the dimensions from the game. If you make tonnage\type limits for 4 men it will make the game much better.

"I have heard em say that its the same every time they drop and it would be nice to have a few different play styles be able to hold their own at their level of playing."

Perhaps You need some help with reading comprehensin.

My reply was me calling him out on this sentence. SJR doesn't do this. They take the win and move on. They don't fret over having more play styles.

Sooooo normally I don't get involved in forum arguments, but since the issue of discussion is what we think and I don't like being misrepresented - Dracol is right, we would like more play styles to be viable. It would be kinda nice. It's more fun when you have loads of options to test and work with until you ultimately strip all the inefficiencies out and arrive at the killer style. Most of our members love doing psyence and creating the meta, instead of blindly following. However, the rate of change is so glacial that we're more often wearing golf polos than lab coats.

That being said, Ohm is right in saying that we're not bitching and moaning. It's hopeful. Either way things go down, we'll be relentlessly pursuing the win, and that's what matters to us at the end of the day.

I have this. I consider myself incredibly fortunate that I work in a place where I can bring it in and periodically hose other teams down with a hail of nerf darts.

@Paul;

Please consider a DOT effect for PPCs at the very least, if not AC5/10/20, even if just 0.3 to 0.5 seconds or so. This would do more to nerf poptarting than nerfing JJs. Spread damage and reduce the impact of high-alpha builds, make lasers more competitive and the still pinpoint Gauss and SRMs with their other issues by comparison more viable.

Once the game gets to a place where top end teams cannot reduce the options just just a couple because there are several viable options with inherent strengths and weaknesses - then you have a good competative game.

It can be done, top end teams are the best canary down the coal mine to find out if changes actually have the desired effects to create viability and variety.

Hell just making brawling weapons good right now would provide a massive boost to different tactics ....

Ah, the truth comes out. Your ability to disguise your crying has finally slipped. So, Ohm "Da Winner", please stop crying that people keep making PGI nerf your easy button.

I'm honestly good with them looking at assault's the way they are.

Going from a Shadow Hawk to a Victor...I don't feel any larger, I don't feel much slower, I'm just as agile and oh I pack a much larger punch with more armor.

It's stupid.

Its good to hear specifics now, that its more about their maneuverability as assaults... but I certainly hope that jump jets can take a different direction than simply "slower turn rate at first". I sound like a broken record, but I think MWO should model after how MWLL did their jump jets. They were great for maneuvering (but not turning), especially during brawls, but they had slower recharge time and less floatiness (which leads to less ability to line up for that perfect jump shot).

View PostDevsAdvocate, on 06 February 2014 - 05:26 PM, said:

Any videos as to how MWLL did this?

Yep! I have some old gameplay videos on my MWLL playlist in my channel: http://www.youtube.c...72C5951EB1D17E1

Here's one that I think portrays the jump jets well as a potential model for MWO. You'll see at about 1:20m mark where I "jump snipe" a Warhammer with my Heavy Gauss. But even though I boosted really quickly in the air I'm also much higher in the air and much more of a target than if I had slow floaty jets that would let me line up for the shot more as they do in MWO.

please tell me that you are going to address Jump Jets in general. i think it is time for the different classes of JJs to receive actual quirks. "assault" and "heavy" class JJs need an increase in cooldown and heat production. let's end this stupid meta already.
