Yup. Of course you might discover that there is life beyond 12 mans, meta and poptarts, but that is entirely dependant on what you play the game for. PUGing is a far better test of individual skill, IMO, whereas 12man is far better test of coordination, communication and tactics. The difference between a Warrior, and a Soldier, per se.

And PUGing, I tend to find strict Meta builds still only work well if you are dropping with a 4 man or a sync. So yeah, for you, I would say skip the Ilya. It's all kinds of fun for filthy casuals like me, but it would probably be a viewed as a stigmata among your Skye Ranger pals to learn you had it in your garage. :P

(though wasted tonnage in 12 man does depend to a degree on the pilot. I got my kills on in most of those 12 matches, even though I had to bide my time a little more than all the cute little pogostick mechs. Only was a waste on a rollover, in which case, one more metalemming build would not have mattered anyhow. But to each their own.)

So much wrong in this, but no point in arguing.

would love to know what is "wrong" with it.

More 12 man superiority, or something legit? Seems a common issue that a lot of comp players don't "get" that the tow venues cater to two totally differing skill sets.

Or is it something more interesting? Inquiring (or at least bored) minds want to know.

But, TBH, if it is 12 man chest beating, then yes, I agree, not worth arguing over.

Bought it, and so far I'm hating it. This is the best game I've had in it so far(pugging) but anyone can do well in any mech when playing with noobs.

The other like four or so games I've played in it I've gotten owned. Anytime the enemy team is meta, the
Ilya gets destroyed, because it's shit. So far anyway, not even basic'd out yet.

Looks like you are intrested in cheese. We dont need any more cheese in this game, because it only brings more nerfs. Dont buy it and go back to your poptarting.

Probably the 4x. You can run 4xAC5 with 2xMLas, which is pretty good if you're not me.

On that note, how's IM handle? I found the 4x (obviously not speed tweaked at the time) to be somewhat cumbersome, as I couldn't position myself well before an engagement, and would then focused down pretty quick in my XL engine. Does the IM feel more agile? If I like the 3D just fine but don't like the 4x, should I avoid a mets?

gosh, so despite being wrong on so many levels....... I was right, eh? (as in, YOU, shouldn't have bought it).

BTW, considering the comparative wasteland 12 man is, hate to break it, a large number of PUGs are far from noobs. Unless, yo are getting huge numbers of trial stalkers against you. But with your Pro Elo, shouldn't you be dragging the whole team to a higher bracket? :)

Agree with Solar, the 4X is a tad slow, but a very fun and different version. Dakka love. I like running stock JM6-S loadout on it, because you can haul a butt ton more ammo in it! Non stop dakka!.

Also, had lots of fun with the 1X and 2X. Honestly, the 3D Metawhore is the only Phract I dislike.

I like the Ilya with what I use to run on my 4x phract... dual gauss, which is definitely not for everyone. It does it better than the 4x and seems to work well for me.

I tried 3x uac5/ mls, 2x uac5/ 1x ac10, etc etc... none of them worked well for me. I love the dakka but I would rather do my 4x boating ac's.

The 3D is another one I have struggled with at times and meta poptart builds just don't thrill me either on it. They are ok but not really my play style.

The 3D is much better without the Meta-Build. :D

All of the Catapracts can be extremely dangerous. These are my deadliest 3.

Ilya Muromets - Dual Gauss on the arms is amazing! While others can have Dual Gauss they can't be as versatile with them.

Cataphract 3D - The "Meta-Phract" looked boring so I went with a novel build. Works well and nearly ANY range.

Cataphract 4X - I made this a dedicated 4 AC/5 mech even went with the AC/5 Advanced Range module. Deadly Dakka.

My first mech in MWO was a CPLT-K2 and I loaded it out with ultras as soon as I had the c-bills to do so and I loved it. Still do. When I saw the Ilya I wanted to see what the triple uAC load out was like, but never could justify spending $30 on it. When it had the 50% off sale, well, I couldn't refuse that and picked one up yesterday and I've been loving it. 3 uAC's , 2 MLs, 10 tons of ammo and it is awesome.

It's a little slower than the K2, but I'll take it. Some might suggest going with the triple ultra build for the Jager, but I find the Phract much more XL friendly and can mount more ammo.

Ilya remains my favorite mech of all mechs (not only all phracts or all heavies). It is the perfect sweet spot for a 3UAC5 build in terms of armor, ammo, and speed. The Jagers have a better sniper setup for sniping behind high cover, but in a ballistic shootout brawl, I want to be in the Ilya over any other mech.

Same build I'm running, the Jager does it better trust me.

I'll still take the Jager over the ilya, their support mechs, not brawlers. From playing both I've found that my Jager has much more survivability.

Jagers are supposed to be support mechs. Take away their ability to mount dual AC/20s and they're support mechs as well. Also, I cannot even beging to count the number of side torsos I've blown out on Jagers and had them drop due to XL engines. They're not nearly as friendly for that as Cataphracts & Catapults are. Again, if it weren't for the stupid amount of FP that dual AC/20s give Jagers, they'd very much be support mechs as well.

This seems less a thread about the Ilya and more about Isp stroking himself.

Well, as a pro 12 v 12 player, he's got to spend his time practicing jump sniping. Doesn't leave much time for a girlfriend.

He is LEET.

That means he has other people to stroke him, Noob!.

(Always get a laugh at the number of sycophants hovering to hold the jocks of the self proclaimed pros in these forums.) But whatever. If one really needs that much life validation from a video game forum.........
