Other comparisons can be found in the Atlas.

MW3: 17m. MW4: 13m. MWO: 18.something. Thing's fuggen huge.

Or the Adder/Puma. 10m in MW3, and something like 7 or 8 in MW4.

It's likely that the mechs coming into MWO will be larger than they were in MW3 - especially the Stormcrow and Nova in comparison with the others. PGI won't allow a properly-scaled Medium mech, after all.

Well, I never got Mektek. Box editions of Vengeance, Black Knight and Mercenaries - and it was certainly in the latter. The Cougar was in Vengeance from the start.

Yeah the Fire moth was certainly as tall as the Daishi. But considering the Daishi could technically carry 2 1/2 Fire moths into battle, it certainly didn't have same bulk. At this rate, one of the arms would probably weigh as much as a Fire moth.

But then again scaling is just wonky here.

If you can find the blueprint of the Locust you'll be surprised. Its about as tall as the Marauder.

Since according to classic battletech (technically the area that defines "proper" scaling) the Locust should be almost as tall as the Atlas (as in, within less than 4 meters) I rather doubt we have THAT much to complain about scaling.

In MWO, I roughly remember from a concept art somewhere that says Catapult is 16m tall.

Officially, the average heights of BattleMechs in BattleTech (that is, in the novels and the tabletop game) fall within a range of 8 meters (26.25 feet) to 14 meters (45.93 feet).

Here is page 303 of Technical Readout: 3039:
Posted Image

The Rommel Tank at the feet of the Grasshopper is only slightly more massive than the M1 Abrams MBT (65 metric tons for the Rommel, versus 61.3 metric tons for the Abrams), and it can be reasonably assumed that they should/would be very close to the same size (with the Abrams having a gun-forward length of 9.77 meters, a hull length of 7.93 meters, a hull width of 3.66 meters, and a height of 2.44 meters).

For further reference, Victor Steiner-Davion is 1.6 meters (5' 3") tall (as stated in chapter 2 of Lethal Heritage), while the person near the feet of the Banshee is probably closer to 1.8 meters (5' 11") tall versus the Rommel's/Abrams' 2.44 meters (8 feet).

For MWO, the Atlas (normally ~14 tall in BattleTech) was scaled to be ~18 meters tall.
(IIRC, actual in-game height for the AS7 art asset is something like 17.6 meters).

Well maybe we're just using the original Ral Partha/FASA miniature scale. *Cough* Yeah that's it!

Yes they customed their scale in MWO iirc because of how they have upscaled the native cryengine scale prospective. The cryengine they are using is set at normal human scale, and PGI expanded it - its one of the reasons why often shots hit walls and ridgelines despite the fact it looks clearly like you have plenty of room, your running into some of the scaling fudging they have done.

For game the best way to Size mech is use a Volume System. That way all Mech have the same Volume to Tonnage Ratio.

The Reason you have to use the Volume system is because with the above Pictures you only are using the X & Y. VS the Need X,Y & Z.

True. However, I'm not sure that's the case here. Look at the difference in volume between the Centurion and Hunchback, for instance. Or the Victor and Awesome.

I wish it were, mind!

There are no offical sizes for mechs. Now that I think of it, only Jumpships, Warships and dropships have sizes listed.

Actually, the original concept for the mechs related to level measurements on tabletop. Level of terrain was a key consideration, and was based on increments of 6m. Mechs were considered to average at 12m, meaning the same height as 2 terrain levels. This was to ensure that 1 level would provide a mech with partial cover from the waist down (a key decision point for defense and offense due to specific positives and negatives attributed to this state), and that 2 levels would effectively cover the entire mech.

This game reality caused FASA to decide early on that mechs would be discussed as ranging from 7 to 17m in height (12m +/- 5m) because this kept them in general from crossing too far over the level boundaries (i.e., mechs would always remain below 3 levels in height and above 1 level in height for discussion purposes, allowing the rules to continue always considering all mechs to be 2 levels in height ). You can see this reference on many Battletech materials, though many others simply state 12m, or 10m, or some other range. And certainly materials exist that give specific mech heights that are all over the place. I've always stuck with the 7 to 17 as it made he most sense game-wise and lore-wise for logical limitation.

This makes the most sense actually.

Also RP and IWM have never made their entire range of mechs to be in scale with one another. I have old RP mini's that are quite a bit smaller (scale wise) than some of the newer IWM stuff.

Actually, from Battletech Lore, the MW4 heights are the most logical.

In the board game, each height level is 6m, and each mech is considered 2 levels, or 12m tall. Given that the MW4 mechs all range between 6.5m and 14m, I would say their size is the most accurate.
