Light: Unsure. Love my Jenners, Raven, and Command, but that Firestarter looks so sexy... Probably the JR7-D as my go to mech.

Medium: Shadowhawk probably the 2D2 though I like the 5M and 2H. all the builds I use could be done on the 2D2.

Heavy: Cataphrat-IM. The 3D is probably better, but I love the IM.

Assault: Pre-Gauss nerf it was the Victor-9K. Now it's the 9S.

As expected, the Shadowhawk appears to be dominating people's medium slot.

It's the perfect storm. the blend of speed, JJs, near perfect hitboxes and ultra diverse loadout potential is amazing. I freely admit it NEEDS to have poor FoV and be less agile than the Griffins and Hunchbacks and such because if it were equal in those regards it would be OP. To me it's the Ken from StreetFighter II or MWO. Once you learn how to drive it, you OWN everyone else.

A chassis is not Meta. The loadout might be. Also, running meta because it is meta is foolish and boring. But avoiding meta simply because it is meta is likewise foolish. I ran mechs that are the current meta with those loadouts (like dual ac5s) long before they were the meta. So because some preachy anti meta folk get offended it is now a meta loadout, I should change it?

I'm anti meta, because I am anti the closed minded out look it promotes. But I find much of the anti meta crowd is equally closed minded. It's like listening to Liberals and Conservatives argue about who is more close minded..... when they are just opposite sides of the same fanatical coin.

Oh, yeah. We actually did "any four mechs" inspired by the old "mech ready list" recently on the Corsairs' forums and that was really hard. It just meant I had thought about this very recently. Ten I could do much more easily.

Like you said, running a chassis just because it uses meta loadouts shouldn't be the reason why you pilot it - nor should one avoid to pilot a chassis BECAUSE it has meta loadouts. The biggest issue therein, is the diversity in weapon loadouts. Run what you wish, pilot what you like, but if a large portion of the chassis listed here runs the same kind of loadout with little deviation...

It is not unreasonable to identify the meta with those given chassis. But alas, that is a topic to be discussed in a separate thread entirely. Frankly, I personally would like to see some resurgence of other mechs to diversify the matches, such as Quickdraws, Trebuchets and whatnot.

But that's just me.

I'm a dedicated meduim pilot, so the Light, Heavy, and Assault are the only ones I've owned.

Heck, I would love to see my Griffins stand on top too (even while some silly people cry about the PPC being OP in Gameplay Balance, which is funny, because a perfect posterboy on the PPC not being so, is a Griffin vs ShadowHawk head to head. The Griffin with it's PPC is outclassed by the Shads ballistic in every way possible. Which is sad, as I always liked the Griff more in TT)

Ember
Shadowhawk-2H (P)
Jester
Dragon Slayer

If had to pick a mech of any group, first choice goes to things that give me the +30% to c-bills, and all 4 of these are among the best of what they can do. I'd say Ilya, but between the K2 and Jester I have over 1100 matches so they hold a soft spot in my heart.

Sadly. I really like how the Griffon's handle, but with missiles being so terrible right now, they're just not much fun to pilot in actual combat. Come such a time as SRM's actually become dangerous again? Then my griffons will be busting out. The open FOV, agility and such are awesome. While the 2D2 sports a quartet of missile hardpoints as well, the griffons are more a joy to drive. I don't mind the single side layout - it just allows me to use the other side as a shield.

Still, Shadowhawks still take my love currently, because their flexibility leads to lots of fun loadout options, and mechlab time (UI2.0 horror notwithstanding) is my favourite part of the game. I don't leave a build on a mech for more than a few battles tops :P

Ain't nothing wrong with BLR love. They sit just a tad behind my Victors, and I do lean a little toward the 1D, but drive any with a smile.

I love the 1D as well - the added agility is really nice. However, the BLR's 6MLas take it for me, I love being able to peek over cover/cliff edges/etc and drop a 30 point burn in someones face. I run my 1G slower, with the dual AC5/LL/6ML, and my 1D with a XL385 for a ninja-assault build.

IDK man, the Firestarter just feels so good... it drive like a ShadowHawk mini-me, don't ya think?
It's a monster. I'm so bad at lights, and it kind of depresses me because the Firestarter is such an awesome mech. Unlike so many other lights, though, I know if I get the drop on someone I can do some really horrendous damage fast.

Also, dirty secret: I absolutely love machine guns. The Ember lets me indulge my machine gun love *and* keep "proper" weapons too.

Yup, and there were some painful cuts for me. YLW? The Protector? 2 of the best most fun mechs for me. And removing Jagermechs and Hunchbacks in total? (Heck, even my lil Locusts...... I love my MarioMechKarts.)
Leaving my Flame out was hard. That mech's got some serious history for me, and I'll always love it, but it's just not as fun anymore with Ghost Heat. The HBK was tough for me, too - I went a long time being solidly anti HBK, then I decided to master them.... and good lord, do they ever get their hooks into ya.

Quote

*Sigh* I still can't fully decide between my Ilya and my JM6-DD, TBH. If I owned a Firebrand it would probably win the heavy slot.
I feel this is the case for me as well, with regards to the Firebrand. With the recent sale, I grabbed an Ilya (and the Ember) as I already had a 4X, figured I may as well take steps towards mastering the CTF's... But I kind of regret not getting a Firebrand instead. Cataphracts don't really "work" for me at all.

I'd love to try out Orions. I've been itching to for ages, but I've got so many "partial sets" of mechs the completionist within me insists I master first.

Hmm, getting tricky here, especially since I don't pilot lights (I'm sure I'd be terrible). If I go for a blend of familiarity and success, which is about the only metric I could really use for this, I'd go with:

Light: JR7-D (F)
Medium: HBK-4G (F)
Heavy: CPLT-C1 (F)
Assault: AS7-D (F)

Yep, my Founders, all of them. Honorable mentions go to CN9-AL, CTF-1X, and AWS-8Q.

This one is so much easier. Still tough, but easier.

Assault : Heavy Metal, because it's the only Assault I own that I've played more than a couple matches with.

Heavy: Cat-K2, even though my first love was the Ilya, the K2 is the most fun of any mechs I pilot these days.

Medium: Yen Lo Wang. I like my Blackjacks and Shadowhawks, but no medium is as fun as the Wang.

Light : TDK. I was tempted to put the Ember up here, but while it's easier to pilot, it's not as fun. Also, whenever I pilot my DK I hear this in my head:

Light - Jenner D
Medium - Shadow Hawk 2D2
Heavy - Cataphract 3D (makes a pretty awesome brawler!)
Assaults - Don't want one. I sold every assault I ever tried - I just can't stand the slowness.
