Nice sale price on the CPU.

I suspect you don't even need that much cooler on a non-K Intel: Look up a Rosewill RCX-ZAIO-92

Memory is way too slow: Get the G.Skill stuff at the same price, a couple of posts up.

I think you can trim some cash out of that PSU: What card do you think you'll get, later, that will require so many Watts in an Intel build?

is this the RAM you speak of: http://pcpartpicker....317000cl9d8gbxm
if so: The G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2133 Memory operating voltage of 1.65V exceeds the Intel Haswell Refresh CPU recommended maximum of 1.5V+5% (1.575V). This memory module may run at a reduced clock rate to meet the 1.5V voltage recommendation, or may require running at a voltage greater than the Intel recommended maximum.

in any case:

The i5-4690 (and it's K variant) have climb up some, so in comes the -4590; No overclock to be had, so here's a rinky-dink tower cooler and an axial fan video card. There's supposed to be a package deal between the CPU and the mobo. Can't turn down a R9 280 …

Only about 0.6A to spare on the PSU:

So I found a referal on the subject of the new '70 twins, and while the firmware thing noted at Tom's might linger longer, it still seems the '70E is the one to get.

Killed off the thermal grease for a "right-sized" cooler with a really good AMD mounting bracket, noted also for avoiding memory clearance issues; Not that the cheapest model I picked needed it: I'd have had to spend another $10 for DIMMs tall enough to care.

The Blower 280 I like came down in price; Blame Lord Letto for finding this case: I was trying to trim, but this SPEC was as close as I was coming …

The now-famous SuperNOVA was basically the first "name" I saw with more then 46A on the 12V rail.

I quit utzing around with drives 1/3rd the size for 1/2 the price; The rest of the system just sort'a fell together.

I've reined in the "expected" OC on the CPU.

The CPU went up in price, but my Blower R9 280 has become the cheapest 3GB card around; There's an argument for running a bigger heatsink without the case fans, but I like to think about the temps on the mobo, too.

I spent a LoLin' $15 getting a Gold Plus on the PSU, and I went from 1A to spair up to 8 amps …

Watch out combining Z87 with 4690's, if there's an old bios on the motherboard the system will not start.

Yeah: I was gon'a use this "bigger" CPU cooler with just the two factory case fans, but looking at the HDD cage got me thinking about static presser-type fans, and off I went. I was even gon'a a third Masscool on the underside of the motherboard (which may still be a good idea,) but then I'd have needed an extra 0.1A out of the 12V rail, which ment Teh Cheapest Gold Plus PSU In Teh World would have been out of the picture. So I ditched that one last fan and kept the power supply. -_- I 'm taking it on faith the Masscools have the listed 3.86 mmH2O of torque presser to get though the obstructing-even-when-empty drive cage; Who's to say the 25 dBA & 81 CFM are true, nether?

Hope you know how to throttle fans, like through the motherboard: This thing could get loud, otherwise …

The Scythe goes on the door, BTW.

Oh; The 48" cable: That guy charges me $5 in shipping for anything at all; I can only assume someone reading this in San Deigo would get hit for twice as much …

Again: No moar dinky HDDs; I loves me that blower R9 280 on an overclocked system, and it's currently the cheapest 280 to boot.

Do remember any AMD build requires overclocking and a good-sized set of tweaks to settings and the user.cfg. You've Been Warned. Posted Image

Do not use Seagate Hard Drives. They fail at LITERALLY 10x the rate as Hitachi or WD! I wasted several hundred bucks on slightly cheaper Seagate drives and they all failed within 2 years.

Have had the same Seagate drive for 6 Years, no issues yet,

Everyone's mileage varies depending on use.
