Took the plunge. Cant wait until I can roam about with my Jenner. (Though I went Legendary just in case I feel the need ...to give up speed.)

What better way to get accustomed with the controls than in a slow lumbering hulking giant like an ATLAS.
My age will match its speed, perfect combo.

You're three? (Or five whilst running?)

Very exciting I had no idea this game was on the horizen until a few days ago, glad I found it in time to get the founders deal, now hoping for an early beta invite.

Will we be able to buy the mechs after the founders package, i.e. If I wanted to buy the Catapult without purchasing the founders pack one, could I?

Will there be more mech choices in the future?

Yes, but it will not have the custom skin (paint job) or the +25% c-bill boost. Those are what set the founder's mechs apart.

Not for the founders packages, but there are going to be many mechs in the game. There are already 14 announced, of which 7 have been seen in the in-game footage:

Seen:
Atlas
Jenner
Hunchback
Catapult
Centurion
Commando
Dragon

Announced:
Trebuchet
Stalker
Awesome
Raven
Jagermech
Cataphract
Cicada

Each mech will have a few variants as well, which are slightly different designs to accommodate various types of weapons loadouts. As such they will have different hardpoints to mount weapons, and slightly different visual appearance to match.

Oh, and I should add that more will be coming too! They expect about 10 total mechs by the time Open Beta gets here (before the end of the summer), with more being announced and then added as time goes by :)

Does being a founder equate to a "bit of a head start" in game, or are there benefits beyond the first three months? Will more payments be required to stay competitive as the game proceeds? Oh, and can Mechs be traded between players?

Founders get the following:

- Some number of months (1-3, depending on package) of "premium" account status. This is a 50% boost to c-bill earnings and XP... but only last for those months. Verdict: head-start. [Also, this will be something that is purchasable later on with real money - so founders can keep getting it or non-founders can purchase it if they want]

- Starting MechWarrior Credits ($40 or $80, depending on package). This is the real-money currency for the game, purchasable by anyone at any time. Verdict: head-start.

- Founders Mech(s). 1 for elite, all 4 for legendary founders. These give you extra mechs to start with (beyond the one that all new players get) and they have a different look (paintjob) to make them stand out. They also provide a 25% c-bill boost whenever you use them for the life of the game. Verdict: both a head-start and a permanent benefit.

Now, with all of that said this game will *not* be play-2-win. How well you do in the game will depend almost entirely on your personal skill: how well you can maneuver, how well you can work as a team with other players, tactical decision making, aiming, etc. Players can buy a boost to how quickly they get new mechs or weapons, but anything that can affect in-game power will be purchasable with in-game, earned credits (c-bills) as well. As such, payments will never be required to 'stay competitive'... I'm sure there will be folks in the game who never spend a dime and are just as good as those who have shelled out for Legendary status and keep buying other goodies.

Lastly, I do *not* expect mechs to be trade-able or sell-able between players. This does two things: 1) It keeps out the account hackers, since if they can't move mechs or c-bills from one account to another then there is no money to be made by stealing in-game things, and 2) it helps keep a revenue stream going to the game makers, since they will be the only source to gain stuff faster.

I'm enjoying that so far the only benefits founders are receiving play into the meta and not the combat. How much of this can I expect to see going on in the future?

I stand a little wary of how clan tech had been handled in the past and what it might mean between the battlefield and our local armory. Any word on that?

I've been gone for a while, so my apologies if my search-fu merely wasn't strong enough.

Also: Any thoughts on being able to gift founder status to my buddies?

Was there ever a thread or post that responded to some of the questions in here? I haven't been able to find anything.

Back towards the begining someone posted a link to a post that answered some of the questions. Sadly for the most part, you have to read through each page to see what has been said. Think Russ stopped answering questions around page 20 though, if not sooner.

Russ answered for quite a while, then had to head off. He asked that we "help each other out as best we can" - so some of us are still trying to answer new questions as they are raised :)

Yes but a person who plonks down $120 on day one for a game they have never seen, and for which a review has never been made is going to be pretty enthusiastic and has an interest in seeing value for their investment.
Rather than some random person who signed up to some beta who was sorta interested.

My words
I bought Legendary package too B)
Cause you know replaying MW4Mercenaries for few years straight is not so much fun anymore.
BUT If this game will be at least half as good as MW2 Mercenaries was, than 120 bucks is still cheap.
All MW Games I played had years lasting appeal.

Ok now I am going to ready my old trusty Force 3D Pro, I hope game will support it

Just a quick question.
I didnt found EU portal for this game
Will this account works once you start EU servers or I will be forever in 100ms ping land ? [Still better ping than on MW 4 online ] Being unable to play with EU players, I think it will be lonely existence for me on US only server .

For Pay to Win fears.
Unless they include some kind of premium ammo or non researchable heavy weapons [Titan arty gun, anyone ? One shot and than overheat, big fun, awesome but useless ] I have no fear this game will change to pay to win.
Huge part of game play will be real player "piloting" skills and min/maxing.

Once they start EU servers we have one time only option to transfer to it, with all our mechs and progress we have made intact.

Will there be an option for the Elite pkg consumers, to change the choice of mech, pre-launch, if they are fortunate enough to be invited to beta and find they prefer a different mech? Or if they simply change their mind?

Thanks

Honestly, i'm a bit dissapointed. The Premium benefits counts are started in the open beta? So i'm bought an Elite pack, get 2 month of premium - in the Open Beta?! Okay guys, you wan't to take out of our money with this game, i can understand it, but this is a bit unfair, don't you think? Okay, i hate to compare the MWO to the WoT all over the time, but in the WoT open beta, everyone get daily 150 gold as i remember, and can buy the premium, can try it, how it's work, and so on. No real money take happens. When the game released, wipe occur, and the harvesting begin.

In the MWO, as i see, we are still just testing the game, our premium accounts begin to counted (and expired), and no wipe happens when the game officialy released...

But then what is this? We are payed earlier, to give money and show respect, and get exchange to our money counted and used in the open beta phase? Just me find this a bit strange?

Since the progress isn't wiped after the beta ends, does it really matter? You're already getting the premium account at a much lower price than what you can get post-launch. Open beta will already be pretty much as functional as the "launch version" anyway.

One question I've seen that I'd like to make a suggestion on ... gifting a founder's package to someone. If you want to work in tandem with the person that you want to gift the package to, once they login with their info they can go to purchase the package, then for the billing info put your info in (including cc or paypal info when asked for it). For security's sake though I would not give that person any of your account information, so the way I'm suggesting this is that both persons be at the same computer when doing this.

It's just a thought.
