Just because its been that way it dosen't mean its not wrong .

I agree completely. In my limited experience, it's insanely hard to pick balanced forces in a Clan vs. IS fight. I'm actually pretty happy that we're abandoning the TT rules for clan tech and trying to construct something that's still within some delta of balanced in a 1-on-1 fight, at least then I can be a Clan player without feeling like I'm screwing over an IS players I fight.

It is a problem because i will never use a Standart engine again

I don't know if that's a problem or not, I feel a little like the common opinion is completely against XL engines now, when I would like them to be viable choices. But you are right, rules as they are, Clan-tech XL engines are Always the Right Choice.

... lots of misconceptions...

The entire OP hinges around 2 assumptions, 1 of which is known to be untrue as presented, and the other pointless.

1. That you can mix tech: The devs have given a very firm "no "on this.

2. That you can even buy a clan XL engine to begin with...which, to be honest, is en entirely pointless addition to the game

"Why?" you ask?
Becasue Clanners cannot change engine ratings.

So they don`t need to buy engines.

Meaning there is absolutely no point to even introduce them as an item available for c-bills, since nobody can even use them.

In other words, you are complaining about absolutely nothing because you did not make the effort to properly inform yourself, nor think things through to the logical conclusion, but instead you used information known to be false (at this time) or simply made a grossly false assumption, and stopped when you arrived at your hypothesis.

As such, the entire thread is a complete waste of time and space, because both of it`s basic premises are either known to be false or unconfirmed but moot.

Ok not going to read all the way through this just to see more people telling the OP how things really work, since I really don't think he is paying attention anyway. Now as people have said Clans can't change their engine so if it so if it has a STD you are stuck with it. Also the bigger a Mech gets the less they worry about tonnage and the more they worry about Crit space, since all Mechs have the same amount. This means while a Light takes all the upgrades they can to save on Tonnage an Assault might just take Endo and a Std Engine since they need the space for weapons and ammo.

To refine this. OmniMechs cannot change engine ratings... Nothings been said about 2nd Line Clan Mechs.

NO.

Most Clan mechs come with an XL engine, standard. Check out Sarna. Almost every single one of them uses an XL engine.

Second: Not being able to put a bigger or smaller engine in a Clan mech is already a huge enough disadvantage to start with.

No, ferro means you use less weight when adding armor to your mech, but the max protection is still the same it just weighs less.

This is why I would like mech armor to have a max weight limit over a max protection limit. That way Ferro-Fibrous armor is useful.
